I use my Calendar in list mode and really don't like the fact that the day / date titles are not very well highlighted and they therefore merge into the appointments. It would be nice if the day / date titles were in bold and perhaps a different colour as they were in IOS13. The minimalist look is not great here in my opinion. So much so that I am looking at alteratives to the standard Apple Calendar app.

I don't get the big deal. It's a super flexible design and easy to see how it works. I've had no issues with it and actually like it now due to the flexibility. If I'm using the Magic Keyboard, I set it so the whole time is editable and type the time I need (i.e. 4 1 5). If I'm using the touchscreen, I highlight the individual values and scroll.

Readdle Calendars has a nice list view. It's free unless you need extra features such as Reminders integration. Make sure you download Calendars (the free one) instead of Calendars 5 (the paid one). You can swap if you want the extra features later.

I also liked it better before. Don’t know why they feel the need to change certain things just for (worse) aesthetics!

Or perhaps they decided that the usability of the new way is actually better.

it still boggles my little brain that they used the default telephone keypad.

Seems like they could have borrowed the time and date entry keypad from Numbers that has all kinds of convenient shortcuts, am/pm, today, tomorrow, buttons to increment +/-, buttons to toggle into hours or minutes if needed.

I didn't have a massive issue with the new input system, but it still didn't feel quite right. I couldn't put a finger on why until I read your post.

Using the phone keypad instead of a custom time & date entry seems so obviously lazy to me now. Definitely a missed opportunity.

For the record, here’s a comparison of how the agenda view looked previously, vs. how it looks now. They made the text smaller; moved the times from the left to the right; removed the “In X hr (min)” text; and changed the look of the “color bars” that indicate which calendar each event belongs to.

On one level, it’s a matter of taste... but I think it was cleaner and more legible before.

I don’t use list mode that much, but I agree with you.

My first world problem with this is...since I have a military background, I always want to type the time in "military" time and add the zero in front such as 9:00 would be "0900".

I miss the “in X hrs” but I like the bolder color bars.

This is the reason why for the first time I’m also looking for an alternative Calendar App.
This update has made it confusing, the date title is same colour as your entries and smaller font, also the actual (today’s date) is red which makes it more confusing.
You now have to study the whole screen to work out what day it is, what is an actual entry and try and seperate every line to work out what’s going on.
Also when you click on an entry to delete it, sometimes a different entry spears and you have to be careful not to delete the wrong entry.
HATE THIS UPDATE :(

The other day I hade a few important appointments and wrote them down on paper just to make sure I got things done. Felt good to use a pen and paper :)

What i find irritating is how you need to type it in like backwards so if I want to set a time to 09:00 I have to type 9 but then it appears as 00:09 so I need to fill it with 0 from behind.

it’s like those ATMs I saw in Asia where I kept on almost withdrawing the wrong amount of money because you had to type in the amount so strangely as well
I think, it’s odd because that type of input/entry hasn‘t been common in gadget UIs. However, it’s not unfamiliar, for example, microwave ovens.

So you can either try to manipulate the worlds smallest scroll wheel, use the whole height of the screen as a novel scroll UI never used anywhere else in iOS, or type in the time ... on a telephone keypad?

Yeah, totally intuitive. And where’s the ending time?

I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but the stock Calendar app just keeps getting worse.
Tapping and holding a on screen element and then moving your finger away from the object but still control it is a thing that existed on the original iPhone. You can do it with all volume, brightness sliders, the scrolling indicator. You don’t have to be directly over it after you grab it

Instead of creating a new thread I'll post here. I have a weird issue with the Calendar app. I have my O365 work account connected and have a couple of colleagues calendars added. Even though I've always unchecked "Events affect availability" for each of the shared calendars, my colleague's events will come up saying conflict when someone sends me a meeting invite.

It doesn't really affect me since I mainly use Outlook on my desktop, and there's not really a conflict, it's just a little annoying bug that has happened since the iOS upgrade. 14.1 update did not fix it either.

Is anybody else experiencing this issue?

I believe this one was one of those changes simply just to change something. Not to improve, not to re-design but to show that there is a difference now. Not a fan of the new calendar either.

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it! I want the old calendar time setting. It was so easy. The scroll screen is infinitesimal and typing in the time is much slower than the old scroll. What the f--- were they thinking?! I want to go back to IOS 13. I'll never again let my phone update automatically.

Seems like typing time in is quite fast and potentially even quicker in many circumstances. That aside, the scroll area extends beyond the actual time area so it's not that small in that sense.

Having to type in something is nonsense. Apple is already looking at changing this soon. Note: I'm an Apple developer and even developers did not want this horrible change.

Not sure what's nonsensical about something fairly straightforward. I can see some not liking it for one reason or another (or perhaps even no particular reason other that it's different), but that in itself doesn't make it nonsensical.

I don’t think it’s pretty straight forward. Seeing it, doesn’t really scream, you can actually scroll to change the time, especially on the whole screen and not just on that somewhat tiny area. It’s weird
