well, I tried to be highly optimistic but not utterly absurd.

What do you mean by that ;P

32nm process CPU, 45nm process GPU that consumes less power than the x1600 currently does. SSD 128GB+ boot drive, 1.46TB storage 2.5in drive or maybe 1.8in 600GB drive, 17in or larger 4k res. screen ...need OSX 10.5 or newer for res. independence (OLED or SED when those mature). Same thickness but much stiffer frame. runtime long enough to watch 4k uncompressed XXX pr0n captured with next year's Red camera.

Breaking teeth with JA, while she's getting warm in her lap by sitting on my 17in MBP, because she's only going to get hotter after that, hopefully not too hot from a toasty GPU. For everything else there's MC :).

15 inch 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400 RPM hard drive, 1440 x 900 display, 6x double-layer SuperDrive, X1600 graphics card with 256MB SDRAM, built in iSight/Bluetooth/801.n

Yeah baby.
Pimped. Out.

And last but not least a backlight keyboard that changes color.

The highest-end Mac Pro but in my MacBook.

There is no smiley that can say how good that would be.

20" Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive, with 8GB of RAM, ultra-clear speakers, best possible graphics card, all that only weighs 1 pound.

Oh, and the price whould be $500.

Yeah, I don't think I should hold my breath.

13.3" Screen (1440 x whatever gives me 16:10 widescreen ratio)
Anodized aluminium body, but a white colour.
4 GB of RAM
Good video card, like an X1800 or something. That's good, no?
6 hour battery life
4-4.5 lbs, or around the same weight as it is now.
802.11n for shiggles.
BT 2.0

And I want fries with that.

ok, to keep it a bit realistic, but still what I want right now:

- 13" widescreen 1280x800 (the resolution can be higher but i dont find it necessary)
- A REAL graphicscard, x1600 would be good enough!
- 2 gb of ram (upgradable to 4)
- 200 gb harddrive (minimal 5400 rpm)
- 801.11n
- at least the same battery life as the current MacBook, preferable longer
- ! Anodized Aluminum body ! (silver or black)

same price as the old 12" powerbook (around $1500)

If one can dream:

13" MBP
SuperDrive
Capable of holding 3GB RAM
2.33GHz Core 2 Duo
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi
Built-In iSight
120GB HD at least
All for under $2000.

This would be a Mac to keep me happy for another 5 years or so, assuming nothing drastic changes in that time (no OS 11 that requires 8 cores or anything)

Design/Form Factor
  • PowerBook/MacBook Pro style case (aluminum, sturdy)
  • <0.8" thick (not too thin, not too thick, with good travel on the keyboard keys)
  • ultra-wide touchpad (accepts stylus/pen input for tablet-style interface, finally put InkWell to work without a Wacom)
  • right-click capable button (like Mighty Mouse, click on the right side of the button for right-click, make it a user option)
  • iSight smaller plus thinner bezel all around (maximize screen real estate for a given laptop footprint size)
  • ~15" footprint (fits in a bag nicely, not too big, not too small)
  • 1x FW400, 1x FW800
  • 3x USB 2.0
  • user upgradeable hard drive
  • user upgradeable graphics card
  • user upgradeable optics drive
  • illuminated keyboard

Specs
  • Dual- or Quad-core (the more the merrier)
  • 3.0GHz (it has long been a dream to have that in any Mac, let alone a laptop)
  • BluRay (big storage for backups if nothing else; cross-compatibility with HD-DVD would be a bonus)
  • 250GB Hard Drive (needs to at least match my iMac at home, would swallow my iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie libraries/projects easily)
  • 512MB Graphics RAM (must match my PC)
  • 4GB RAM (why stop at 3GB with the C2D MBP?, 6-8GB would be better, but first it would have to be a lot cheaper)
  • 1080p capable screen (its close, but not enough right now; a necessity if BluRay movies are to be supported; would then require OS X to be resolution independent, which it will be soon)
  • hi-res iSight (needs better focusing, much higher resolution, larger aperture,...)
  • 12+ hour battery (this is a dream, right? I'd like to see fuel cells or something different than Li-Ion)
  • 802.11x (take your pick, I want it all: a/b/g/n, WiMAX, etc.)
  • Cellular (for when you really need it; choice of carrier necessitates choice of technology, Apple needs to be open to this)
  • FLASH drive for fast boot/instant start

I'd also like some Apple designed ExpressCards to help populate the marketplace. I'd like ones for flash memory cards, external SATA, and even for USB2.0 (so we can get a few more connections to make life easy). I never used my PC Card on my PowerBook and I don't want that to happen when I get my MacBook Pro!

Whichever one Apple come out with next ;-)

Case in point...I have to get me a 15" C2D even though I only got a 15" CD in August :-(

I think the current "middle" MBP is almost perfect. I'd like a bigger drive but I can't justify the potential 6 week wait for a CTO model.

hmm my perfect apple laptop? it would feature a mobo with 4 finished versions of intels 80 core CPU,full support for every different CPU architecture in existance (i mean with a total of 320 cores what couldnnt you emulate?) a 17in screen, two mobile versions of the upcoming R600 GPU from ATI linked in crossfire mode, 2 or more 500GB HDD's in a RAID 0 array, firewire 800, 400,USB 2,and any other port i can think of,a battery that lasted over 12 hours under load, have an 8 megapixel webcam with full video capabilty, includes every version of every OS apple and nextstep ever released dating back to the time of the apple 1 with full emulation support all on an included external drive, light as a feather, with a life time warrenty that covers everything, so i could throw the thing off a building and apple would replace it. Unlimited and free upgrades for life and finally having the entire case made of of diamond! oh and anything i forgot like the cd drive but its equivalent 5+ years from now.

PS light as a feather too.

and mine would probably cost $6000 right now if there are even working engineering models of the 80 core CPU, i mean they only showed us the waffer at the intel developer forum. oh but with the solid diamond case it would be more like 5-6 million.

powerbook 12 is the best Apple laptop

the 12 inch is the greatest.
good size
very robust
a reliable machine

not like the macbook. total disaster.

I use my computer every day for my business. At the desk, it's hooked up to an external monitor, kb and mouse. Airplane travel every couple of months. My perfect laptop:

• Form factor of 12" Powerbook
• Easy-access hard drive of MacBook
• Processor, drives and graphics of MacBook Pro

I don't care about the PC card slot or FW800 or Gigabit Ethernet. Don't really care about modem either, but I'd actually use that once in a blue moon -- which is more often than I'd use any of those other ports.

I have an aging 12" Powerbook and will be upgrading sometime in the very near future. Been waffling between MB and MBP; currently leaning toward MBP but I will miss the nice compact size of my PB12. The 12-inch Powerbook made even the 12-inch iBooks look large. The MacBooks are hardly a replacement - they're not much smaller than the MBP due to their widescreen format and big fat bezels.

I guess what I'm saying is: give me a 12-inch MacBook Pro, and this time, don't cripple it just because it's smaller!

ewww, too many in love with 13 inches of screen space. i have a 17" pb now and i love it but 15 is perfect. id just get the 15" MBP with all the fantasy hardware in it. being able to boot into windows makes it more than worth it already

C2D 2.33GHZ but with a 160GB 7,200RPM drive with 4GB of memory MBP 15 inch.

Also, i would like to see a modern day Clamshell that was well speced out and preferably with a dedicated GPU as well. I would buy that in a second if one was in the colour of the colour of my choice.
