Blitz

Very British. Depressing (London tower block and a lot of rain) and graphic (lots of blood) without the typical American fighting and explosions. Kind of a fan of Statham and it was one of his more interesting films (5/10).

Lilya 4 Ever

Was in a mood to be depressed, so I watched this one again. One of the sadder movies I have ever seen. Would recommend when you feel bummed about your life and want something really sad to compare it to. Generated some of the strongest emotions I've seen out of a film for a while (8.5/10).

Drive

Best pre-credit sequence I have seen in years. Movie losses steam afterward. Feels like an 80s remake movie, which is it's strongest point, which may/may not be saying much depending on what you want out of a film (6.5/10).

Margin Call

Good movie. Worth seeing the other side of the banking "scandal." Really nice dialog by some of the actors (especially the British guy while driving the Aston over the bridge ... when he speaks about common people vilifying the bankers). The massive trading scene was kind of weak, or else would have had a higher score. Would recommend to anyone (8.75/10).

Hanna

I enjoy movies filmed in Scandinavia, so I decided to check it out. Really good for the first 20 mins, then loses steam. Leaves a serious open end in one part of the film, which is a very nice change of pace. Overall, strong start, weak finish, a few interesting characters. One open end (7.25/10).

Anyone excited about "Immortals"? For me, "by the producers of 300" was not a good selling point. I don't like overly stylized filmed in a warehouse movie. Although I'm not sure if this movie is all CGI, but it certainly has that stylized look.

Margin Call was great! May I also recommend "Inside Job"

Hm..drive was ok, nothing fancy but enjoyed it nevertheless. Margin call does look intruiging though.

I just saw Immortals tonight. It was really interesting how they changed around Greek mythology to create an entirely new epic with the character of Theseus. I saw the 2D version, because I refuse to pay extra for 3D, so I can't comment on the 3D effects. However, I thought the movie was pretty cool from a cinematography and special effects standpoint.

That is probably it's strongest points. (Based on previews, based on Producers of 300.)

This past week I've watched:

Fast 5: Surprisingly liked it. 8/10, my favorite I've seen in the Fast and Furious series.

Coming to America: Still hilarious, to this day. 8.5/10

The American: Turned it off halfway through, terrible movie. 1/10, that's generous.

The Rum Diary: Not sure how I feel about this one. I'll probably watch it a few more times to take it in fully, but was a little disappointed with the ending and the fact I paid 13 dollars to see it. There was, however, a part in the movie where I literally was crying/laughing in the theatre. I'll give it a 6.5/10, but it may go up the next time I see it (Friends and I decided we had to go see the movie after having a few too many at happy hour).

Cedar Rapids: 9/10. I love dry comedies, I love the cast of this movie, and I felt like this wasn't a movie, it felt more like real life. Great acting.

The girlfriend and I watched The Blind Side earlier today.

It was her first time, and she was teary eyed at the end. I had seen it before and was able to prepare myself for the emotional parts.
I was teary eyed too =).

Contagion - Good premise with an all-star cast, but too many storylines that were not executed well. Made a potentially good movie kind of meh. Did make me a serious germaphobe for a couple of days.

Like Crazy - I know the critics loved this one, but I was not a fan. I thought it was trying very hard to make a point about the viscousness of love, but the actual love it presented was shallow and unrealistic.

Twilight - My excuse for seeing this one was a promise to go with my girlfriend to take her niece to see Breaking Dawn when it comes out next week. I figured I'd watch the trilogy so I'd know what was going on. Worst movie ever - totally ridiculous, over-the-top emo lovey crap. I wanted to spork my eyes out the whole time. Cannot believe this junk was/is so popular. I'm going to have to strap myself down to get through the last two.

I need to see something good in the worst way. The trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman looks great.

Yeah, I saw "Inside job" the other day as well. Matt Damon's narrative was quiet impressive.

As a microbiologist/biochemist, I was quite impressed with this movie, compared to others of the same genre.

Lol. I found the books were readable. The movie, ehh. I could take it or leave it. One thing that really pissed me off in the second book (SPOILER)

was when she gets dumped by her vamp boyfriend, she spends all most the entire story getting over him, only to be sucked ;) back in at the ending.

Watched Harry Potty Deathly Hallows Pt2 last night. Saw it in the theater, read the book. Help me remember.

Did Harry reviving have anything to do with the Resurrection Stone? It looked like he dropped it.

Why did Nevil, killing the snake, finish Voldermort? Yes he previously split up his soul into horcruxes, but I thought he was also carrying around a sliver of his soul in his body? Maybe that was not enough...

Watched Tower Heist over the weekend, pretty funny movie, worth seeing imo.

wanted to go watch immortals today, but the theater by my house only has it in 3D.... guess I'll have to go to the big theater tomorrow.

Guess I need to decide now if J. Edgar or Jack and Jill are worth seeing!!

SPOILERS:

No, the Resurrection Stone had nothing to do with Harry reviving; rather, it enabled him to make his "self-sacrifice" for he was able to call upon those who were dead and whom he cared for - his parents, Sirius, Remus - to accompany him as he prepared to face Voldemort knowing he would have to allow the latter to attempt to kill him. As it happens, he did drop the Resurrection Stone, and did so quite deliberately, and made that clear at the end of the book, when informing Dumbledore of what he had done, or intended to do, with the three Hallowes.

What enabled Harry to revive was the Horcrux inside him (in essence, Voldemort couldn't kill himself, though he never knew about the Horcrux inside Harry).

No, Neville didn't finish Voldemort when he killed Nagini; however, his killing the snake meant that there were no more Horcruxes left (apart from the sliver of soul left in Voldemort himself and the seventh horcrux, the one inadvertently made in Harry when the killing curse aimed at him as a baby rebounded after his mother's sacrifice); this meant that once the Elder Wand refused to be used against Harry, its spell rebounded on Voldemort, killing him, and thus the Horcrux within him and the one remaining within Harry.

I don't believe this is made clear in the movie or maybe I just need to watch it again. It looks like they are fighting, Neville kills the snake, I don't notice anything rebound, Voldermort just starts to dissolve. I'll watch it again.

I don't think they really described the Resurrection Stone all that well. I mean they all ready see ghosts here and there. Olivander spoke as if the resurrection was permanent when he referenced the "control over life and death" or maybe that is just a conclusion I jumped to. I mean he spoke to his passed beloved ones who were clearly ghosts, but all they did was give him courage as far as I can tell. I guess that could be called resurrected... Thanks! :)

Im a bit behind the times

Oh, just admit it, you watch this movie over and over. :p I prefer the second installment. "On an elevator to Hell!" :)
