Tai Chi Master not to be confused with The Tai Chi Master which is a completely different movie. I watched both.😐

Tai Chi Master (Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh) is your cliche two childhood friends choosing different paths in life--one the righteous side, the other the dark side. As with any Jet Li show, the fight sequences is top notch. The storyline is run of the mill good over evil. I would recommend it for fans of the horribly dubbed Kung Fu shows of the 70's-80's.

The Tai Chi Master is a campy kung fu movie. If you're a fan of Bruce Campbell level campiness and kung fu action, it's worth a watch. It's a rather forgetable movie. Kung Fu Hustle takes campiness to the proper level to be entertaining.

Gone With The Wind (1939)- Superb Americana story. Scarlett O’Hara is a selfish, strong, flawed woman, who can function in a man’s world.

If you like this movie, a good read:

The movie was filmed in color. There is no B&W version.
Before I made my statement, I did a quick search and found this:

The answer to whether Gone With The Wind was filmed in color is no. Despite being released during a period when color films were already prevalent, the movie was shot entirely in black and white. The decision to film in monochrome was primarily due to the limitations of technology at the time. While color film existed, it was expensive and not widely used in the industry. Additionally, the film’s producers believed that the dramatic effect of the story would be enhanced by the use of black and white cinematography.

Now I was not certain, it’s likely the first time I saw it was on a black and white television, hence I looked it up.

That website is wrong. The movie was filmed in Technicolor and was the first all-color production to win an Academy Award for best picture.

I watched it the night before I started AOCS (Aviation Officer Candidate training School) training in a motel in Pensacola, Florida, 1977. I was 24, on my own, and it grabbed me. :)
Interesting you mention this. I was in NFO training as a 2LT in Pensacola in 1976. The movie never grabbed me either, but wondering if originally in B&W how was a color version done? Colorized much later or re-shot at the time in color? But I've read that Technicolor cinematographers were on the set during filming.

BOHICA! Fellow squid. 😜 I don’t know. It’s possible that the technical color people were there as advisors.

This is how it happened. My wife streamed the movie last night. Looking at it I was like that’s pretty nice color, then I thought wait. Was this in black-and-white? As I said, when I first saw the movie, it was on a black-and-white TV. So I did a search online and found that link. Based on that link, I made my post. After being told it was filmed in colored I went and found this link, but I don’t see anything about award for being filmed in color, but I could’ve missed it. 🥸 Regardless, I prefer the movie in color! Yet I prefer It’s a Wonderful Life in black-and-white! :)

Hey fellow squid (though more on the jarhead side)! I can see how this movie is so enjoyable in color as such a grand scale epic. But yes, some films are best in B&W. One that hits home with me that couldn't possibly be done in color is Kubrick's "Paths of Glory".

Warfare (2025)
1751632673203.png

A platoon of Navy SEALs embark on a dangerous mission in Ramadi, Iraq, with the chaos and brotherhood of war retold through their memories of the event.

Aside from tactical & technical errors (potentially artistic intention) Warfare is an insight into modern combat, equally the film should not be confused with how professional soldier's act in such scenarios. If I had my way the politician's that make such decisions should be forced to serve in a combat zone. They then might think twice about their actions... But we all know that will never happen.

RW is fantastic. The Man Who.. was okay.

I hadn't realized until yesterday that these versions are Hitchcock's American remakes.

Kinda want to seek out the original versions now.
"Rear Window" is one of my all-time favorite movies. I don't know how many times I've seen it, but I'd watch it at least that many times again. I'm a Jimmy Stewart fan and Grace Kelly..well...the epitome of a beautiful and classy woman.

So The Old Guard 2, decent story and plot, action is weak through and didn’t feel natural at all.

Heads Of State, had much better action, quite a lot of it too, but the story and plot are God awful and so full of holes it would make a rubbish sieve even.

Both your typical streaming exclusive films really.

The sexual tension in this movie that had to be glossed over because when it was made is significant.
