I have tomtom and the full version of garmin.

I prefer tomtom but I had that since the day it was released. Was not cheap then either (but I don't need a separate nav device)

Are there any navigation software for free which saves the country maps on your device so you can use it without an internet connection?

I've used Waze and Navigon, but didn't care for them. Actually Navigon sucked when I was in Michigan, it gave either incorrect directions or took ridiculous routes that added a ton of time, had to revert back to just the maps application which worked perfect. My GF is from up there and when she saw the directions Navigon would give she was like wtf?!?! To get to her aunts house it had us taking a route that was like an extra 2 hours and loped around Rochester.

Google GPS is really good on the Droids. No idea why Apple doesn't partner with one of the companies like Tom Tom and have an integrated full GPS system like Google on the Droids.

edit - whoops made a mistake, it wasn't Navigon, was Telenav lol

For my fellow New Yorkers out there, don't depend on Waze in Brooklyn yet. Brooklyn streets have changed a lot over the past year and Waze hasn't seem to catch on yet. Too many two way streets are now one way and one way streets have switched directions. TomTom has also been slow to adjust but is not as bad as Waze. Navigon has been the most accurate with direction of streets but is not perfect. Had no major problems in any other boroughs.

TomTom for me has been the slowest to reroute, it really wants you to get back it's original route by any means. Navigon and Waze seem to reroute very quickly when going off course.

UI wise I like Navigon the best. Only tried MotionX briefly so I can't judge it's accuracy of routes, but it also has a nice UI along with TomTom. I'll put Waze UI in last place, but for FREE it's pretty good, especially compared to before the major update.

Price wise Navigon is the most expensive, and you'll also have to pay a good chunk for extras like Traffic Live & Panorama View 3D which IMO should be free considering the price for Navigon itself. I do however think Navigon with or without the extras is well worth it. TomTom pricing seems perfect for a well known brand. MotionX seems like a steal at first, but you'll have to pay 20 times extra if you want voice guidance. Waze is completely FREE and has excellent live traffic and voice guidance. And even though it's free, no ads.

IMO ..... Navigon is the best paid for gps app. If your on a budget go for TomTom. It makes no sense not to install Waze since it's free and includes the things that pay apps want to charge extra for. Waze just needs better routing and UI before the competition gets worried.

motion x gps is good, currently only 1$ and 9.99$ for the first year

ALK copilot is also very good, closer to a tomtom and garmin, I think they are 19.99$. Used them for many many years.

I use the TomTom app. I really don't need the car kit since my car is equipped with Bluetooth so when I'm using the app, the navigation instructions come through my car speakers. I just glance down occassionally at my phone to ensure that I'm taking the the exit the app tells me to. Other than the stock maps app, I haven't used any other navigation in the App Store. But I have no real complaints about the TomTom U.S. app. I purchased it a few years ago for $29.99 since it was on sale and I had an iTunes GC to use.

I'm going through Google Navigation withdrawals and would like a suggestion for functionality that I'm looking for in an iOS replacement.

1. I really liked that Google Nav had single click access to select a different route. It would give me a visual representation for quick access to change my route preference. TeleNav allows me to select Fastest, Shortest, etc, but not after it starts routing unless I start over. I would like a comparison with a map since the shortest and/or fastest is not always my desired route.

2. Being able to "star" a location on Google Maps desktop site and have the location show up in a "Starred" list in stock Android app.

I have tried Waze, TeleNav GPS Plus, and Garmin onDemand. They work decently but miss the above features of Google Nav. Waze is free, TeleNav and Garmin are $0.99 apps so they were easy to "try". I'm not about to spend $30 -$50 unless I know it has features I'm looking for.

Any suggestions?

Copilot provides 3 fastest routes.
