I know this may be more of a North American thing but I've noticed around 90 percent of my contacts are either on iMessage work
group chats or friends and family group chats . Im Just curious to see if you guys rely on iMessage as much as I do.

I would guesstimate around 90+percent.

Same here. Funnily enough some contractors I talk to use iMessage as their primary means of communication rather than something like email, so it's not just friends and family for me.

In my case that would probably be less than 5 percent. Most of my contacts only use WhatsApp, and more recently Telegram (because of the new WhatsApp privacy settings).

I know basically everyone in Europe uses WhatsApp which is a little frustrating given my refusal to use it. Nice to hear people around the world are switching to Telegram but Signal is probably even better.

My grandmother in the UK uses a smartphone and essentially doesn't even know what text messaging is, communication in her eyes is basically just WhatsApp.

Wow, that’s interesting. My mother back in Norway is the only one texting me through iMessage (she refuses to download any other app). Actually nobody in my family back home uses WhatsApp, but I live in Mexico now where everyone and their grandma use WhatsApp lol.

100%

Everyone I message regularly uses iPhone.
Only the occasional staff who text me do I receive the dreaded green bubbles. But that’s super rare.

The vast majority I think. I don’t use WhatsApp because i don’t see what actual benefit it has over iMessage When as I said the vast vast majority of my contacts use iPhones. Also, I can contact my mother at any time, I don’t really need to see what she’s saying to my brothers and father at any waking moment through a group chat.

About 15 percent. I have one contact that is on iMessage but sends everything as SMS.

Second person I’ve seen on here today saying that no one in the UK or Europe uses iMessage, any proof?

Everyone with an iPhone that I know uses iMessage, people I see on public transport use iMessage, people i see in shops use iMessage, I see used in many places.
Yes, WhatsApp is popular because of its groups function which is cross platform. That I think is it’s major draw.

UK here; no one I know uses it except me and my girlfriend. Family, friends, work colleagues use whatsapp/snapchat/fb messenger regardless of OS.

When you say on iMessage, do you mean they have an iPhone but for some reason cant or won’t use iMessage ? The only way I’d use iMessage is if theres a issue with WiFi or 4G which isn’t that often.

But while WhatsApp is popular it’s not taken over iMessage.

UK too, everyone I know uses iMessage. My wife, my kids, my sisters, mum, dad and other family (cousins etc etc), mates, work colleagues. But they are all on WhatsApp too, in group chats.

I mean, I have all the correct details to iMessage this contact (and he has mine). But for whatever reason, every message sent between him and I is always SMS. I suspect he has simply chosen to keep iMessage off, despite having an iPhone. I'm sure he has a good reason for that and it probably is to do with his occupation.

Everyone I text regularly all have iMessage. People I rarely text seem have iMessage too. I have other people contacts but never text them so no idea those people (I know can see in contacts if they use iMessage but since I don't text them so I don't need think about them). I am from UK.

Lot of love in this thread for WhatsApp, that'll make someone smile or perhaps cackle fiendishly.

I wouldn't touch it with rubber gloves.
