In my case that would probably be less than 5 percent. Most of my contacts only use WhatsApp, and more recently Telegram (because of the new WhatsApp privacy settings).

Same boat. I got off WhatsApp the day the news broke that it was sold to Facebook. I still kept WhatsApp just for a contact or two that were important enough, but now I will close my account and if they want, they can contact me on Signal and Telegram.

On a side note, what are the options for an Android user who does not use Telegram or Signal to contact me on iOS? Does Google Meet or Duo or Hangouts serve the same purpose (chat and video) or not?

I think the ladies appreciate a man who uses iMessage, versus using the green bubble or worse, WhatsApp.
ROTFL!

My lady uses a Pixel 3a XL, just as I do. When we had iPhones she didn't care about any of that. In fact, my wife thought computers would be a passing fad. She fought the idea of owning cellphones and smartphones.

This conversation would bore her. :D

Maybe she could use a firmware upgrade to get her back on the right track, E. :D lol

;)

About 15% of my contacts uses iMessage, and even then they also have third party text messaging apps. We mainly use WhatsApp, IG chat, and now recently Signal. Most of my family members and friends prefer Android phones anyway so I'm not really dependent on iMessage.

I live in Russia and here whatsapp is everything, very very few people use iMessage.
Also, group whatsapp chats are very popular here, used everywhere, work, family etc. I think iMessage doesn’t do that.

I only have 1 friend who has an iPhone but he likes to use WhatsApp, I prefer iMessage. My Mom & Sister have XS's, but we don't text, my Sister will text her friend, but I hardly have any iMessage messages. My best friend has an Android.

I'm in Europe and most of my contacts use iMessage to contact me. i have never downloaded or used WhatsApp, those who would like to use it to contact me I don't want to know lol!

Just like Facebook, WhatsApp is not on my iPhone.

Maybe make this into a poll in blocks of 10 or 20 percent?

Less than 30% of my Contacts. A lot of mine are global and Android is the predominate OS. My US Contacts is more like 40 percent or so.

Lot of love in this thread for WhatsApp, that'll make someone smile or perhaps cackle fiendishly.

I wouldn't touch it with rubber gloves.
What, you really think he's intercepting our messages or selling our personal data? I'm not particularly concerned about that, to tell the truth.

About 75% of my contacts use iMessage, I would say. All the rest I communicate with via WhatsApp. Literally all of my group chats are WhatsApp because there's always at least 1 Android user who makes an iMessage group chat impossible

Yes, that would be my concern. Although I don't think my life or contacts are remotely interesting enough for anyone to actively spy on I have become slightly concerned about internet privacy in recent years. I don't want to play ball with the algorithms gathering info on who we are, who our friends are, what we buy, where we go and so on. Just as I no longer use Google search, Drive, Navigation, or Photos - all brilliant apps IMHO - and am even trying to not use Chrome, so I am wary of anything associated with Mr Zuckerberg's companies. Possibly I am fooling myself and the all-seeing eye does what it says on the tin, but I will have wriggled a little.

I'm all for everyone doing what makes them most comfortable, so I'm not going to try to change your mind or anything, but realistically, none of these services are "spying" on you. At worst they use your information to send you more targeted ads, which can actually be helpful sometimes. And call me gullible, but I actually believe WhatsApp privacy policy that says that communication between private users is end-to-end encrypted. Apparently it's only if you use WhatsApp to communicate with companies that they collect data from you. I mean, ultimately if the price I pay for using these very convenient services is just that advertisers get some of my data so that they can be better at trying to sell me stuff, I'm personally fine with that. But I understand that others aren't comfortable because it's all far from being transparent.

UK here - I’d say my contacts are evenly split at 50/50

Mainly WhatsApp is used by my friends though (which I hate), even if I message someone on iMessage they will usually say “can we WhatsApp instead”

Of my North American contacts 98% use iMessage exclusively.
Of my overseas contacts, 1%. They all use Whatsapp (although many have since moved on to signal).

I’d say about 75%. Whenever I message someone new, I’m relieved when I see the ... as they’re typing.

Actually, you should know almost immediately if recipient has an iPhone. Your send button will be blue when you start typing. Sometimes that takes a bit longer for unknown reasons until they reply.

Probably 10% maybe?
I only really use it among close and immediate family to be honest as sending pictures is better with it as you can keep full resolution. Most of the people I know tend to use WhatsApp whether they have an iPhone or not. It’s the primary messaging service I would say in my part of the world (UK). WhatsApp has become king over the past 5 years I’d say as even in business, new contacts tend to opt more towards WhatsApp due to it being easier for group messaging across different platforms.

I am surprised the number of people that own Apple devices and chose to use Whatsapp. I have had it on my phone under protest, for those users with Android. Now I have deleted it, they can iMessage, Text, Signal or Telegram me, otherwise I am not interested.

All my American friends use iMessage, but it's 50-50 in the UK and other countries I know people in.

Lot of people were on WhatsApp. Thankfully that's changing so a lot on Signal now too.

In Turkey, Whatsapp is the most popular chat and message app.

Only maybe 10% of my contacts use iMessage. 🤷🏻‍♂️
