This isn't a desktop where apps take a long time to start u And people use real apps far more often than simple widgets and there are much more of them. It doesn't make any sense at all to make it harder to get to ALL your apps for a few widgets on a homescreen that also drain your battery faster.

I want to get to my apps faster, not slower. Android makes getting to your apps slower by sticking them under another interface thus requiring an extra gesture to get to your apps.

Why are people insisting widgets will drain the battery? They don't have to be live all the time - they can have thumbnails that update periodically which will use a tiny bit juice (similar to your email checking). If the widgets were live, then yes, there'd be significant battery drain.

Essentially the notification screen in a better layout with a couple of widgets is what I want as the main screen, with the Dock still at the bottom and capable of holding 5 icons.

Flipboard has had an impact on my liking towards widgets.

Landscape rotation enabled for home screen and multitasking tray. (like iPad)

Contact lists show photos.

Ability to make status bar transparent with black info (like Mac OS X).

Just a few thoughts

I love the idea of more live icons. Both on iOS and on Mac OS. I know some people find the idea of icons dated, but it's far easier to scan for something in particular in iOS than it is on Win Mobile. That said, there is value to not having to launch an app for it to give you information.

I like the simplicity of the iOS springboard but I understand why people feel it should do more. Here's how you make it good for everyone. Portrait mode stays the same but landscape reveals a new view – perhaps some sort of Dashboard equivalent.

NFC. And not just for payments. Sharing, downloading apps from locations (tap on the way into Disneyworld for auto park map downloading; same type of thing for bus schedules, mall coupons, and boarding passes).

4G FaceTime.

Contacts as apps so I can just have the 3 people I call most as "apps" on my home screen.

Haptic feedback.

Finger proximity and location detection for touchscreen's return of the over-state.

An Apple-backed Flash replacement technology. Because those who know, know that HTML 5 can't do everything Flash could do (as buggy as it was) and with the same finesse (motion editors, blending modes, proper key framing, etc). Flash had its sore points and its benefits and it's time that Apple helped find a kinder replacement for the dragon they helped kill.

Quick Reply on notifications. I'm so surprised no smartphone OS creator has come up with that yet. I'm tired of being in conversations with friends and trying to play a game, but having to constantly switch between apps to respond is annoying. Adding a simple "Quick Reply" button to iMessage & Facebook Messenger would be nice.

Incorporating the Push Notifications from iOS to Mac OS. When you get a notification, you can also have it pushed to Mac OS, where it displays in the top bar.

Add a landscape multitask bar to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Have Siri be more "low-data" friendly.

Fix that intrusive "Wi-Fi Networks Available" pop-up.

Facebook Integration, as well as a Twitter and Facebook Notification Center widget.

Realistically

- notifications center in the cloud. Clearing a mail notification on my iPhone should also clear it on my iPad. Chances: 75%

- live icons for a couple native aps and third party access. Not widgets, just icons. Weather should should current temp. Stock app should be green if it's up and red if it's down... Etc... Chances: 90% for native. 50% for third party

- Newsstand for TV Channels. Let's face it, AirPlay of AppStore apps is what Apple TV is going to be. Newsstand for said apps, like Watch ESPN, HBOGo, Bloomberg, CNN, etc... Will happen eventually, I just hope it's sooner and not later. Chances: 25%

- Quick settings are enhanced. They already exist by swiping left on multitasking bar, but the multitasking bar could be made simpler and more capable. Swipe left can remain as the jukebox but swipe down again should reveal quick settings as others have mentioned before. Chances: 75%

- iCloud, Settings and notification center made simpler. iCloud, notification center, and the whole settings app in general is a mess. iCloud as it sits now is too complicated for most. Notification center is more bother than its worth. And the fact that many apps still don't integrate their settings into the main app makes the wole things a confusing mess. Not to mention how unruly the settings app has gotten anyway. Chances: 100%

Of course, more mail enhancements, convo swiping, Music player improvements, alarm clock improvements, I mean there is plenty of room for improvement.

why though? it would be much faster to just search for the person alphabetically.

this would be one of those stupid novelty features that you show off to friends/family once or twice, and never use it again.. like facetime ;)

i'd like it if they implemented lion's navigation gestures. slide pages to move through safari history, calendar months, etc.

however the limitation i can see is that there probably isn't enough ram to cache browsing history so a fully rendered page can be "revealed" underneath when you swipe back. the next iteration will likely have 1gb though, so here's hoping it at least becomes a feature for future devices.

You can swipe to move between Calendar days. How would they know out wanted months. You can tap months at the bottom of the screen to move to the next month.

Fix that intrusive "Wi-Fi Networks Available" pop-up.

FYI, these can be disabled by going to your Wi-Fi settings and switching "Ask to Join Networks" to "OFF."

If you mean you want to be notified without seeing a pop-up, then yes I think it should be in there. I have never been that annoyed (if at all), but in some cases I probably would be. I use an Android phone that has an indicator at the top of the screen to tell me if it sees any WiFi networks.

ah good to see its on the calendar day view. i rarely go to that view though, as i get a better overview of upcoming meetings and deadlines in the month view. the turn-page animation used for switching months in lion of course doesn't suit the aesthetic they use for iOS calendar, but even a swipe-up/down to move to the next or previous month would be nice, since thats how it already animates. its a bit of a visual disconnect to press a left arrow to scroll up.

i guess i'm just a gesture junkie (was using mouse gestures long before i had access to trackpads/touchscreens), and would love more built in gestures in general. like in addition to swiping left/right through safari history, 2-finger swipes could switch tabs (or messages/emails/etc). in fact, a swipe from the bottom up could bring up the 'action bar' the same way we bring down the notification shades from the top. that way you could maximize screen real estate for content in many apps and only bring up keyboards or other tool bars when you want them.

if apple does go to a 4" iPhone screen and retina iPad display next round, i think these sorts of tweaks will nicely complement a push towards giving you a gorgeous and uncluttered environment to view content.

I always use the day view in Calendar so I decided to switch to the Month view and quess what, you can switch from month to month with a swipe.

really? i've been trying and there doesn't seem to be any way i can make it work. if there's a setting i'm missing or some other trick (like how you have to move the 4S from from in front of you to your ear to activate raise-to-speak) i'll be eternally grateful!

A central Documents folder. That is one which any app can load from and save to (with user confirmation, as to avoid file tampering). This would make it easier to share files between apps and greatly simplify the file transfer process in iTunes.

It should add more features to Notification Center. Like toggle WiFi or change brightness (sort of like SBSettings).

I like the idea of live icons, haven't actually used them before though, but I completely understand the whole being used to a certain icon look.

I think the calander should display the date in spotlight and in springboard, that shouldn't be a big deal for them to implement it, tbh I was suprised when I saw the blank icon WITHOUT the date.

I think a swipe up to multitasking tray would be amazing as well.

Since I don't jailbreak anymore I miss the following and with they would incorporate them in a new iOS.

- ability to choose a default browser
- ability to set your default/home network and disable the lock screen when you are on it.
