Posted this list elsewhere... changed and added a few things.
Heres a list of stuff Id like to see:
- More gestures. Id like to swipe from either side of the screen to go back/forward in Safari or just in any menu system. All the gestures in Lion got me used to doing that, so it felt a bit weird when iOS didnt respond similarly.
- I want to see the Notification Centre become a bit more powerful and open. More widgets beyond weather and stocks (open this up to app developers!), throw in some toggle controls for bluetooth/wifi/etc
Though, I'd rather see those toggles integrated into the multitasking section.
- It would be nice if one could tell the notification centre to always show a user determined number of calendar entries and reminders.
- Folders that can hold more than 12 items would be nice.
- Sound profiles! This is something I miss from my Nokia. On that, Id made a profile specifically for sleeping. It would ring if I got a phone call (any call I get in the middle of the night is the kind of call I want to take
ie. emergencies), and the alarm would make a noise to wake me up in the morning, but that was it. No vibrating or noises from every e-mail or text. I can sort of do this right now by fiddling in the sounds menu for a while, but it takes about 20 times longer than simply selecting the sleep profile on my old E71.
- A slightly more powerful lock screen. Instead of requiring me to double-press the home button to get the quick camera/music things, Id like to be able to set that as the default.
- Add an option for a sort of crescent shaped unlock slider so I can more easily unlock the thing one-handed... sort of like this: (
- Live updating icons. The Calendar one shows the current date. Why cant the Weather one show the current temperature? Why cant the clock app show the current time? This could be pretty damn useful if executed properly. I want to see the springboard paradigm maintained, though. I don't care for the Metro tiles. I find it pretty difficult to quickly scan.
- I realize third party apps already cover this functionality, but: more powerful editing in Photos, and more control over the camera.
- Certain apps seem to lock the keyboard to portrait orientation. I dont mind this, because its what I normally use. But, I have friends who use my phone and wonder why the keyboard wont rotate in certain apps. That sort of inconsistency is a bit annoying.
- To that end, it would be cool if the entire interface could be used in landscape orientation as well
home screen and all.
- They keyboard is still the best out there to type on, based on my extensive testing
but it could be a bit more context sensitive. If Im entering an e-mail address on a website, it would be nice if it could stick the .com and @ keys on the bottom of the screen like it does in the mail app.
- While I wouldnt use it, because I dont use Facebook or anything of the sort, I know a lot of people would appreciate an address book that truly integrates with social networking data, including feeds, photos, etc
for each contact. Android appears to have done a great job of that in ICS. Id be pretty surprised if this doesnt show up to some extent in iOS 6. Basically, turn the Address Book into a central source for social feeds.
- Give Siri access to more phone settings. It would be cool if I could turn bluetooth on and off with Siri, for instance.
- Less in the way of analog visual metaphors. This applies more to OS X
but there are still hints of it in iOS.
- The ability to hide away unused native apps, like Newsstand, Stocks, etc... Or, at least the ability to put Newsstand in a folder.
- Haptic feedback.
- Maybe the ability to scale the springboard and dock to your liking, so you can fit more on one screen. And, if you make the icons big enough, they'll display additional, live updating information.
