Apple already allows users to hide (restrict access to) certain app icons from display on the home screen using the "restrictions" setting, but this feature should be expanded to allow you to restrict access/hide any app not just the select few currently included.

I'd like to see apple rework the Homescreen, multitask bar, and the notifications center. In my opinion, it doesn't make logical sense to have the music controls and rotatin lock with the multitasking apps bar, and the weather and stock widgets with notifications.

Perhaps they could borrow from Lion and make a mission control-like soliton.

Peel down reveal /open apps / desktop. From corner of screen. Would save the home button wearing out.

26. Ability to subscribe to podcasts directly from iPhone (Computer free? What?) Basically, just replicate the app ‘podcaster 4’ which also does push notifications among other things.

This is what I want more than anything. I hate that I have to download podcasts from my computer and sync them, rather than being able to subscribe to podcasts and have them be available on download whenever I want.

Probably could be integrated with a simple "refresh" icon to the right of the word Podcasts on the main screen.

Same for me ....
But I use the app "Instacast" on my iPhone ... it does all that with a sweet interface ... its probably the most used app on my Phone ! Try it out .. and you wont worry about having podcasts subscriptions in the next iOS :)

Posted this list elsewhere... changed and added a few things.

Here’s a list of stuff I’d like to see:

- More gestures. I’d like to swipe from either side of the screen to go back/forward in Safari or just in any menu system. All the gestures in Lion got me used to doing that, so it felt a bit weird when iOS didn’t respond similarly.

- I want to see the Notification Centre become a bit more powerful and open. More widgets beyond weather and stocks (open this up to app developers!), throw in some toggle controls for bluetooth/wifi/etc… Though, I'd rather see those toggles integrated into the multitasking section.

- It would be nice if one could tell the notification centre to always show a user determined number of calendar entries and reminders.

- Folders that can hold more than 12 items would be nice.

- Sound profiles! This is something I miss from my Nokia. On that, I’d made a profile specifically for sleeping. It would ring if I got a phone call (any call I get in the middle of the night is the kind of call I want to take… ie. emergencies), and the alarm would make a noise to wake me up in the morning, but that was it. No vibrating or noises from every e-mail or text. I can sort of do this right now by fiddling in the sounds menu for a while, but it takes about 20 times longer than simply selecting the “sleep” profile on my old E71.

- A slightly more powerful lock screen. Instead of requiring me to double-press the home button to get the quick camera/music things, I’d like to be able to set that as the default.

- Add an option for a sort of crescent shaped unlock slider so I can more easily unlock the thing one-handed... sort of like this: (

- Live updating icons. The Calendar one shows the current date. Why can’t the Weather one show the current temperature? Why can’t the clock app show the current time? This could be pretty damn useful if executed properly. I want to see the springboard paradigm maintained, though. I don't care for the Metro tiles. I find it pretty difficult to quickly scan.

- I realize third party apps already cover this functionality, but: more powerful editing in Photos, and more control over the camera.

- Certain apps seem to lock the keyboard to portrait orientation. I don’t mind this, because it’s what I normally use. But, I have friends who use my phone and wonder why the keyboard won’t rotate in certain apps. That sort of inconsistency is a bit annoying.

- To that end, it would be cool if the entire interface could be used in landscape orientation as well… home screen and all.

- They keyboard is still the best out there to type on, based on my extensive testing… but it could be a bit more context sensitive. If I’m entering an e-mail address on a website, it would be nice if it could stick the “.com” and “@” keys on the bottom of the screen like it does in the mail app.

- While I wouldn’t use it, because I don’t use Facebook or anything of the sort, I know a lot of people would appreciate an address book that truly integrates with social networking data, including feeds, photos, etc… for each contact. Android appears to have done a great job of that in ICS. I’d be pretty surprised if this doesn’t show up to some extent in iOS 6. Basically, turn the Address Book into a central source for social feeds.

- Give Siri access to more phone settings. It would be cool if I could turn bluetooth on and off with Siri, for instance.

- Less in the way of “analog” visual metaphors. This applies more to OS X… but there are still hints of it in iOS.

- The ability to hide away unused native apps, like Newsstand, Stocks, etc... Or, at least the ability to put Newsstand in a folder.

- Haptic feedback.

- Maybe the ability to scale the springboard and dock to your liking, so you can fit more on one screen. And, if you make the icons big enough, they'll display additional, live updating information.

  • The ability to be able to add files to an email right from the Mail app

  • More apps per folder

  • Faster/better way to switch between tabs in Safari

  • Reminders to show in notification centre before the reminder is set to go off

  • Time stamp on all texts/iMessages

  • be able to create ringtones from songs, all on the iPhone (I know this can be done in GarageBand already, but it'd be so much easier to do it all within the iPhone)

  • Be able to delete photos from photostream

(yes, the last one bugs me massively)

These two already exist, although the ringtone one requires a pass through iTunes and a 3rd party App.

Your last one is fixed in iOS 5.1.

Sorry, should have made it clear I wanted this through iTunes/iOS without the need for a 3rd party app! Such a basic function should be built right into the operating system in my opinion..

At least it's gonna be fixed in the next update! It's my main concern hah.

How much longer until it's released do you know/reckon?

So long as ringtones are sold around the same price as whole tracks, unfortunately I don't think Apple will add such a feature.

Looks like someone else already answered your first statement:

As for your second, I honestly have no idea. My bets are on the second or third week of March when the iPad 3 is supposedly released.

Completely off-topic @MasterHowl: Great user name! Fan of Studio Ghibli?

An advantage that I had expected the entertainment oriented Apple to offer first instead of lagging so far behind the competition.

Yeah, last I heard they were doing really badly.

I think Apple now needs to add Real Multi-tasking.. The only company that has delivered in that area is BlackBerry with Playbook OS 2.0..

Switching between Apps & Games on iOS5, Android & Windows Phone 7 is a painful process, having used a Playbook before I can tell you the multi-tasking experience is the best out there.. Even the gestures are much more natural then those found on devices I've mentioned....

Apple is always innovating, so I really hope to see some real multi-tasking while maintaining good battery life..

The ability to add a ringtone to the phone without the need for iTunes.

I create a ringtone in the phone but for some reason I need to export and then sync back to iTunes... The iPhone is still very much tied to the PC.

Last year, the original post contained all the ideas from the entire thread. Every time something got added, he would edit his post and add it so you wouldn't have to read the whole forum to read the list quickly. There is a website called Listiki that might be useful for that purpose.

I've posted a tweak I'd like to see in a different thread.. But now I've seen this, I'll add it here.
It'd be pretty cool to see the album art of your current song in the multitasking bar. - Sometimes, I don't know the song I'm listening to from just the song title, or the intro of the piece of music I'm listening to.

I've just made a quick mock-up on photoshop touch:
