The OLED colors are very compelling. And you’re right, side-by-side comparison, there are notable differences. I’m curious to what the OLED display would look like on the rumored 6.5 iPhone X Plus.
This post already made me love with upcoming 6.5 iPhone. Man I'm huge fan of X design and can't wait more to lay hands on 6.5 iPhone.

Perhaps if I’ve had more time handling the X I may see a noticeable difference between Apple’s OLED and LCD panels. I’ve had Note 4 for a couple of years, and even then, the LCD on the iPhone 8 still looks gorgeous to me. Perhaps I don’t have the eyes to really appreciate the distinction between one another.

The 8 is a better phone as it is totally notch less.
If the notch bothers you. For the people that don’t focus on the notch, the X may be the superior phone. Based on a lot of your posts, I’m gonna guess the notch bothers you just a teensy weensy bit. Good thing you have the choice to buy a phone without the notch.

The 8 is a great phone, but I don’t necessarily believe it makes it better because it doesn’t have the notch. That would be strictly personal choice if somebody couldn’t look past certain tendencies about the Notch, but someone can make the same argument that iPhone X is better for different reasons. It’s All relative, but personal choice.

: While I agree that the contrast is (obviously) superior, I’ve owned both phones and compared them and the 8 Plus display is much sharper. That’s despite the X’s higher PPI on paper because the PenTile layout of the X reduces detail significantly. It still looks great and is about on par with the 4.7-inch models, but the Plus definitely looks sharper.
I have also owned both and no way in hell that the screen on 8 plus is "much sharper". For me the x looks sharper than the plus. And compared to the small 4,7" it's like night and day.

To everyone that says the 8 Plus has a superior screen, I don't think you've used an X. I have both phones and the X is better. Here's what I found when watching the avengers infinity war trailer on both phones.

Notice how the X shows a lot more detail in darker areas. I know this isn't the perfect picture to show the difference, but the X shows more detail.

You shouldn’t have shown that picture. The notch haters are going to focus on the “bite” out of the video and start complaining. :(

Geez, if those are the differences that are being argued over, then I have to bow out
I don't need a better screen, I need better eyes

There are bigger differences. I just can't show them properly from a picture. It's way more noticeable when kept next to each other.

I have the 8 Plus and my wife has the X. Yes, blacks are a tad better. The screen on X seems ‘closer’ to the glass but in all honesty they are not that far apart. If the X screen was 5-7mm wider I would be all in but I’m not in any way convinced the screen on the X is much better than the 8 Plus in daily use.

Forget about the shadow detail. The 8 Plus screen can’t even display black properly. Milky gray vs pitch black. I’ll never go back to lcd.

I recently compared an X alongside my 6S and yes the screen is better. However, it didn’t feel hugely better and when my 6S is not being directly compared, I don’t tend to have any complaints about the quality of LCD. It’s still a very good smartphone screen and not something I would consider influencing my decision when buying a phone though. Some people are very particular and passionate about screen quality but I’m not one of them lol.

Both are great. But if I had to pick a display which has matured and refined nicely, that would be Apples LCD displays. The OLED display on the iPhone X is excellent, but it still is a first generation display that will improve over time.

Curious in what respects you think that. I had the 7, 8 and X all together for a while and with one big and one small note I would say the X is visibly better in every respect. The colors are better, the contrast is better, the DPI is somewhat better. The "buts" are PWM, which is a deal-killer if you're sensitive to it, and off-angle color shift. I suppose potential for image burn-in is a potential issue as well, but there haven't been many reports of that in normal use so far.

As I mentioned, the OLED display is excellent and like anything with the first iteration with a new display, it matures. The only reported issue that I’m aware of, was some slight burn in, which we know is not necessarily abnormal as Apple noted and the green vertical line that was reported. None of those do we have evidence that it’s widespread and how many iPhone X’s were affected by that. In Any situation, we really don’t have a measurement of where the OLED display will be for the next few generations, because this is the first display that we have observed from Apple. So in theory, we would have to wait to have more of an appropriate comparison, as an example, you can see the changes with Apples LCD displays over the years from iPhone 6 all the way to the iPhone 8 with color shift and temperature changes.

I read this in review:
“OLED display has amazing contrast and is brighter but the iPhone 8 Plus has arguably the best LCD display in a phone so the difference isn't huge. “
So no difference.

So between quality of displays is IPhone X much better ?

OLED can display a much wider range of contrasts: Not only blacker blacks, but potentially more shadow and highlight detail. It also supports a wider color gamut, but I'm not sure how much wider. The question is can you see the differences and do you like the differences? That's probably going to depend on the content you are viewing, but in my experience there isn't a huge difference in typical use.

I go between my iPhone X and my iPad Pro throughout the day. I'm a photographer, so I probably notice differences between displays that many people would not. The OLED's wider contrast range makes some images and videos really pop, but for a lot of content the difference won't be that noticeable. When more HDR video becomes available, I think the advantages of the OLED might become more noticeable. I don't usually watch a lot of video or play games on my iPhone. I'm typically going to use the larger iPad for that. I also usually edit photos on my desktop display, but I use my iPad display to edit sometimes.

I actually prefer the way my iPad renders some colors. These displays are both factory calibrated by Apple, and most colors are remarkably close. Sometimes I spot subtle differences though. In some photos the iPhone X will render a blue sky with a slightly green tint. In other photos the blue will look more like what I see on the iPad (no green tint), so I think there is some difference in gamut (and I'm comparing these with TruTone disabled and brightness set to the same relative levels). Perhaps the iPhone X has a custom color profile that translates some colors a bit differently. There are times when I prefer the look of the same photo on the iPhone X. Colors really pop on the OLED, as long as they are accurate looking. On the other hand the LCD still displays photos with lots of contrast and clarity, and some photos look a tad more true to reality on the iPad in my opinion. I'm seriously splitting hairs here, because photos look great on both devices. I should compare more of my black & white stuff though. My only complaints about the iPhone X OLED are in dark rooms when brightness is as low as it will go. At that point I see a pink color cast that shifts to blue as you change the angle of the display. LCD (at least the IPS LCD panels found in iPhones and iPads) has no color cast or angle issues in low light.

Spinal Tap guitarist Nigel Tufnel summed up the OLED advantage many years ago:

The blacks on the X are much better since black is actually black. Load a black screen onto an X and 8 in the dark. The X will disappear. It's not a deal breaker or anything since both have awesome screens but it's cool to see the deep blacks on the X.
