I ordered my imac last tuesaday and is still not here. This is a fragile piece of equipment and it has been traveling for a week already. I fear that may of the damages reported happen because of shipping.

I would like to return it and buy one at the apple store. How long does it take to get a refund? Which carrier do I use to ship it back?

it's coming from china not down the street. did you pay for upgraded shipping? also you haven't even received or opened your product. stop acting like a child and be glad you are one of the lucky ones that can afford an imac! :)

Since I can afford it I expect a better service. I do not want to open the box either. I just want to send it back. I would not want to deal with a broken computer etc. Plus I want the i7.

They should make the computers in the USA so more people could afford it too by having jobs here.

WTF. This is the worst reason for a return that I've ever seen...

Someone else will pay the cost for your OCD return. Just wait and open the dang box...just because its taking awhile to ship doesn't mean you'll be receiving damaged goods. You aren't the only one that paid for an iMac...you're not entitled to something that the others may not have received. And, Apple doesn't do the shipping...they have other companies deal with that. Complain to the shipper...good luck with that, BTW.

I hope they charge you a restocking fee, just to be anuses.

Last Tuesday as in 4/6 or are you talking about 4/13? If it's 4/6 then still it's not even enough time. What did you order? This sounds to me like you wanted an i5, you ordered it, and now you're looking for any reason to return so you can buy the i7. You don't need to do that. They'll happily take your **** back and let you upgrade. Don't open the box when it gets there.

So you want to return your "late" computer to order a custom-built one that still has to be shipped from overseas? I'm sure you thought that one through 100%.

If everything wasn't outsourced, then we just might have a middle-class again that can afford such items.

Was this a BTO iMac? That adds a shipping delay and once you do get it, you won't be able to return it anyways since it's Build-to-Order Mac.

LOL. He/she is going to be waiting even longer for his i7 to arrive than his original purchase. :D

Doesn't Apple wait till you have returned the first one, before they ship the second one.

your iMac is shipped from china not by plane , its in a container with a couple other iMac's , and that container is on a containership , and containerships are no speedboats , and there is a bit of a distance between china and usa and i assure you its more then the couple inches on the map :D

most products you buy today are actually made from parts from china and other asian country's and all these products are made in china /asia for a reason and the reason is so you who has a job can afford them
and "made in usa" never really stood for high quality, that was the label "made in germany" which stood for high quality ,and i said "was"

Yeah, that's not too elitist, because everyone reading these forums is in the USA, right? Or, if not, they don't count anyway. :p

With the economy booming in China, Mac sales there are brisk these days. ;) I just read on AppleInsider that Apple plans on opening 25 new Apple stores in China.

But as you've seen you'll always find a few fellow xenophobes in here, so don't worry. (I'm American by the way. I just live in Japan.).

Apple offers equal service to all customers, not just those with a high income. Not to mention, anyone else who is a Mac owner could "afford to buy one" so I'm not sure what your bragging is all about.

1- You can now get the i7 at the apple store. So no need for waiting. I understand that this is a fedex issue, but since there are so many complains, apple should look into this as they are the ones responsible for the goods untill I get them(I have not seen anywhere that this is shipped Ex-works)

2-If you are running a business, a one day delay can cost you $$$. Mine is for personal use so that is not the case. Nevertheless when I order something, and I pay for it, I expect that everything works according to my expectations. Everytime I order from Amazon, or Costco, the shipping says 7-10 days, but for some reason I always get the goods after 10 days.

3-They have a return policy. If I am not satisfied, I can return it. The issue is that it takes 10 days to get the item, another 10 days to send it back, and another 10 days to get the refund. To me that is not customer friendly. To me that is like buying one of those B&S shops.

4- I am not xenophobe and this was not a xenophobe comment. My point is that the more jobs we loose less people will able to afford things, while prices will still go up, due to a deprecating dollar. I have lived this before I have seen in other countries I have lived in. I do not want this to happen to the USA, but if we keep importing more than exporting, if we keep closing manufacturing sites, if we keep outsourcing services. if we keep constraining foreign tourism, we will end up just like any other country that has had hyper inflation etc. Foreign students are not coming here anymore as they used to. Top American executives are being sent to China, so not only we are loosing muscle power, we are also loosing brain power.

5-Things used to work in this country because people complained. By reading some the comments in here, it looks that we have become a herd of sheep all heading down a cliff. People saying "oh I have yellow tint on my 2k computer, but it is ok, because it is apple" F. that should my computer have that, I will be flying to the infinite loop and they will hear my infinite complain.

if your unhappy with the wait, you could try an actual apple store, or ebay? or craigslist? or i dont know lol good things come to those who are patient ;)

The shipping/fedex is not causing the issues with the iMacs. That's just crazy. How do you think apple stores get them? Via fedex/ups.

This has got to be the stupidest post I have read in a long time.

Your logic is that you want to return it unchecked because it may possibly be damaged due to the length of time it's taken to get to you? What date did you place the order, what date did it actually ship to you. Just have some patience and if it's the configuration you want open the box and check it out - if it's broken (unlikely) send back for a refund, if it's okay then enjoy it. Also, the iMacs in the store have also been shipped from China, what are you going to do, ask that they pull a box from the centre of the freight pallet?

Actually why am I dignifying this ridiculous post (and subsequent ones by yourself) - I think most of us must have felt like this when we read the question.:rolleyes::confused::rolleyes::confused::rolleyes::confused::rolleyes:

what the hell is wrong?

I can tell you what's wrong. You live in a fairy tale with unrealistic expectations. I can see the phone call now to Apple.

Caller: Hello Apple
Apple: How can I help you?
Caller: Yeah, I ordered an iMac and I want to return it.
Apple: What seems to be the problem?
Caller: Well I waited 2 weeks to for it arrive and I think it may be damaged?
Apple: What type of damage do you think it received?
Caller: I'm not sure.
Apple: What do you mean sir?
Caller: Well it is still turned off, sealed in its shipping package, and sitting by the front door?
Apple: Was the package damaged?
Caller: No, but I know that it's damaged because the extended shipping of consumer iMacs is causing all the problems to the recent i7 series. Plus I really wanted an i7 and didn't display any kind patience to wait for it.

YOU MISSED THE BEST PART:

Apple: Sure Sir. Please return the sealed item to us. If you open it we will charge a restocking fee. As soon as we get the computer back, we will send you the refund.

I'm confused????

If it's broken / faulty wether you've opened the box or not it's not an issue - you get a refund or replacement no matter.

If it's undamaged / no faults then it's a non issue as you've got what you ordered and all is well.

Have I missed something - are you wishing to change the configuration therefore looking for an excuse, thus avoiding a re-stocking fee, to return a potentially perfectly good iMac?

The fact that I changed my mind is also associated to the fact that the shipping takes so long. Since I still have to pay taxes, and the shipment takes so long, I rather buy it at the apple store. So if I have an issue, I can just solve it there.

If I do not want to open the package because I will not use it. I am still going to buy an Imac, even pay more, so what is the problem with this?

I have the balls to say, I changed my mind, I made a mistake, and I want to fix it. Since I can fix it, there is no issue anymore.
