Hmmm tried it, don't see it, on your main timeline if you tap a tweet you see a grey "in reply to" button, but you don't get this button if you tap a tweet in any search results timelines so you can't see what the conversation was.

Then the tweet you're viewing wasn't made with a client so there's no trail. I've been able to pull up threads in search results.

I primarily use the official Twitter app. However, occasionally I will tweet using Osfoora. I've tried almost all the Twitter apps available in the app store, and IMO Twitter and Osfoora work the best for me.

Weird, I choose any search result that is an @reply and Icebird, SimplyTweet, Twitterrific and Osfoora can all show me the conversation.
The official Twitter app doesn't show the "in reply to" button or no way to view the conversation???

Warbrain, have you got a link to a random tweet as an example please, I'm curious now ;) Thx

^ Back when Twitter for iPhone was called Tweetie 2, I often noticed that Twitterrific was able to find conversations/replies where Tweetie was not. Even when starting from the same exact tweet. That was one of the many reasons I stuck with Twitterrific (even though v2 was admittedly confusing as hell).

^ yup, I asked the developer of Icebird if he could get it to show the full conversation thread from any tweets and he added it in the last version - I think it's a must-have feature, when searching and reading tweets you normally want to see why someone has said something in reply to someone.

TwitBird's in-line conversation view on your timeline is quite good but I don't think it lets you view a conversation from search results.

I like the official Twitter since it's free and does what I need. I only wish you could edit the retweets like on TweetDeck. TweetDeck is pretty good since you can link your FB and tweet people you follow (but only recent tweets) but I can't go to my profile unless I find one of my tweets so I can't find who I'm following without going through hoops.

can someone explain why people pay for twitter apps? I mean the official Twitter app is free.. what makes Hootsuite and Twitterific Pro so special that you need to pay for it

Try TweetDeck. Some nice features and new style retweets that the official doesn't support.

Just started using Tweetings. I like the interface, clean and easy to read. Best feature to me though is you can schedule tweets. I didn't think I would use that feature but I do a lot.

I think some of us can fork out a few bucks for an app a day. Or something like that. :p

+1 for osfoora. Can't stand the quoted retweet format on official app.

Plus I use qTweeter to send tweets and update facebook status just by swiping down from the status bar. Of course jb is needed.

Simply Tweet 3 Landscape tweeting new/old retweet style and push for DM and @ replies

+1. Simply Tweet is my favorite Twitter app simply because of the push replies. It does everything else all of the other Twitter apps does plus lots more. If the official Twitter app had push replies (which they are getting) I wouldn't have bought a Twitter app.

Osfoora for the iPhone has a MAJOR issue. Apparently DM's don't show up or take a real long time to show in your inbox. This does not happen on the HD (iPad) version nor does it seem to affect other Twitter clients.

Until that gets fixed, I am using the standard Twitter client on the iPhone and Osfoora HD on the iPad.

I've been using Tweetlist. I like how it lets you read conversations. Before that I was using Tweetie 2/Twitter... but I haven't really tried any others.

Right now I'm using Echofon (Free), but thinking about buying Osfoora. Is spending $2.99 on Osfoora worth it over the free version of Echofon?

Osfoora is basically (in terms of execution and layout) just like the official twitter app with extra features. Try the official twitter app for free, if you like it stick with it, if you like it but want more features, go for osfoora.

I switched from twitter.app to osfoora and am very happy with it.

I've been mainly using Echofon, rarely using the official twitter app. If I'm not that big of a fan of the official app, would I be better off just sticking with Echofon? The main reason I'm considering Osfoora is because of all the good reviews, compared with the other twitter apps.
