That’s gorgeous, could you share the wallpaper?

Going to try left side dock too.
Here you go. Try the left side dock and stick with it until you get used to it. It seems odd at first, but now I'd find a dock at the bottom of the screen odd.

Thanks so much. I just tried moving the Dock to the left but I have too many icons in mine, and I can't figure out any I'd be happy losing. It looked tiny.

It would be cool if macOS allowed you to have app folders/stacks in the Dock.

Will keep thinking of ways to improve this - perhaps actually rearranging Launchpad for launching or getting into a habit of Spotlight, and removing about 6 Dock items so I can put it on the left.

I have my most important icons on the dock. Anything else I launch with Spotlight. Important means an app I use pretty much every day. Spotlight is great for accessing documents too and it learns, so if the first time the document or app is some way down the list and you open it, the next time you do the same Spotlight search it will be at the top.

Does your Dock get a lot smaller if you have apps open which aren't in it usually then?

Good point, but usually any apps which aren't in the the dock I'd only open for a short while and it would usually be one or two apps at any time. I've switched off 'recent applications'. If I found the dock getting too small because of open apps, I'd remove some more apps from it.

Plain gray solid color background. That’s been the standard for many colorists, video editors and photo editors since time. The brain suffers a little image retention so when we are working with media content we have to prevent color another from source influencing our visual perception. Gray has been the standard because it is neutral, and also because if the gray background appears slightly blue or yellow we know our displays need calibration. We have to work in neutral light or darkroom for the same reason.

I’ve never understood having the dock at the bottom since we’ve been widescreen. Such a waste of vertical space. Have to say, for years I’ve simply hidden the dock as well as placing to the side. I don’t really ever use it.
Several times I've tried using auto-hide for the Dock, but I always turn it off again because not having the Dock there all the time is kind of unsettling.
