So a new MacPro has been longed for since the Tube was released, actual news and rumors have been scarce at best. Got me wondering what the last actual rumor was? I really can't recall what it was. Seriously, where do we stand on this?

There was something about it having 10 TB3/USBC ports a while back...

Never been one. It's all educated guessing, looking at Intel's products, and whatever's next on the horizon from Intel and AMD.

No talk of a 7.1 whatsoever. Leaks that Apple is working on a new "desktop" seems to be leading to a new iMac. For now all is quiet on the Mac Pro side. I mean once u **** up what was once a great machine how do u come back with something better?

(i)Mac (Pro)
Pretty much yeah
Tim Cook:
"We took a look at the best desktop in the world, and asked ourselves, how can we make it better.
I am so proud to introduce you to... the new Mac!"

Tim looks down as a new iMac with marginally changed bezels flashes on the stage screen.

LATER...

Phil Schiller:
"We've listened to the professional community, the makers of big dreams, and new ideas. We are delighted our innovations provide the performance and reliability only a Mac can deliver to empower content creators world-wide. I am very excited to show you... the new Mac Pro!"

With the wave of one hand Phil looks up at the stage screen as a back-lit large rectangle black box is shown. There is a huge round of standing applause... until the next image shows the same black box from a side angle... the applause turns to dead silence... its a black iMac.

The Cheese Grater G5 did come after the G4 Cube. But then of course, at the time of Cube introduction, no one said they would replace the G4 Towers with it. To this day I am still amazed how they didn't learn from the Cube fiasco, and actually went further to kill the cheese grater form with literal trash.

But either way, Apple is for sure not interested in going back to the conventional PC form factor. Their agenda is to further tighten their content and cloud based ecosphere, with the end user's device being as portable as possible being a priority. The rumored iMac Pro is said to feature a wireless charging pad on its base stand, essentially making it an iDevice accessory.

They could just revert back. People would be forgiving.

When Apple makes a mistake they NEVER admit making it. So no way will they revert. Also they love keep manufacturing costs down. It would be ludicrous for them to manufacture another Mac Pro with full aluminum bodies etc. So I'm afraid the "next big thing" looks to be the iMac Pro.... yuck !!!

Probably not, but they would be happy! ;)

Aluminium prices have only come down since they introduced the old Mac Pro, and Apple is not afraid of letting the buyers pay for high prices, so I don't really see the problem.

Probably the last credible one is that it will be discontinued...

Unfortunately, this.

All we've really had is some plist files reference a possible MacPro7,1, and some Amazon sellers mark some items of the 6,1 as 'Discontinued by Manufacturer'.

Apart from that, no 'solid' rumours exist. Not even a slip up mention in System Image Utility ;)

Apple did thought about reverting back for mbp as 2016 one was a failure.

Up until a few months ago, what was the point of doing an update to the Mac Pro? Sure, the price should be coming down, and I wish it would. This isn't like the 90s and early 2000s anymore. New processors are not that much better than their old ones (other than integrated graphics and battery life).

I think now that we have TB3 and USB-C, they will be updating the Mac Pro soon.
