Question for each man of culture or woman of culture here in the forums. If you already own a 2018 or 2020 IPad Pro, what would make you buy a new iPad Pro in 2021 ?

My 2018 iPad recently met an untimely end when it landed corner-first against a tile floor. So pretty much any updates would cause me to ‘upgrade’ because I can’t justify the cost of repairing my damaged iPad.
I was already debating an upgrade anyway. For me, I’d like to see 5G (planning to go back to cellular due to increased travel) and longer battery life. My 2018 seemed to go dead way too fast, I would appreciate a return to all-day battery life.

2017 iPP 12.9 owner here - while on the performance, specs and features side there's no compelling reason for me to upgrade the one thing that may make me get a new iPP this year is the failure of my Smart Keyboard which I can no longer find for purchase new from Apple. I know there's 3rd party solutions out there but I don't really want to go that route - heck I don't really want to go the folio route either . .

If I still had the 2018 I’d buy the 2021 one just based on the 2020 improvements. To upgrade from the 2020 one I’d want something more than just a better SoC, so mini-LED, more RAM, thunderbolt, better battery life or something along those lines.

2017 10.5. Screen has cracks (but works great), battery doesn’t last as long (3-4 hours on actual illustration work), charging isn’t always reliable.
It had a good run. It is time for an upgrade. Depending on availability I am hoping for the 12.9, I might settle for an 11 if the ram is the same and immediately available.

(That said, I just told a friend on a budget to look for a second hand 2020 Air.)

A much better battery life and a reduction in price (or 256GB for the base model).
Even if the iPad Pro has better screen/speaker/camera/mic than the MBA M1 it’s very difficult to justify the price difference considering the MBA has more RAM, more storage, more battery life and a more robust OS.

Significantly improved battery life. But that said my priorities this year are probably more centred around a new Mac than other devices.

I have been wondering whether maybe I should join those folks who are getting an M1 MBA to replace their iPad Pro. I find the arguments quite compelling, for built-in keyboard, battery life, storage and the more functional OS.

I can’t see me upgrading from my 2018 pro 11 anytime soon. We'd be much more likely to upgrade my wife’s 9.7 pro, for a bigger screen model. none of the 2020 changes mattered to me, so it would have to be some currently unknown feature which I don’t know I need at the moment.

Zero chance of a much better battery life (iPad will remain 10 hours, it seems quite clear), nor a price reduction for the pro (many bet on a price increase)

I have the 1TB cellular 2018, so basically almost as good as the best 2020. There is only ONE thing that would make me upgrade, a larger Pro (14in or 15in). Which is not in the rumors. No other realistic improvement Apple could make in either hardware or software (MacOS is not realistic) would make me buy another iPad pro this year (or even the next).

I'm ready for new screens. The display on my 2020 11in Pro had uneven backlighting. If it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't upgrade. Amazing little devices.

I have the 1TB 2018 12.9. I am curious about a new one. I don't need one though.... I will wait to see what Graphic Artist think about a new display - if it comes out. It seems like Apple is only making tiny upgrades for the past few years.

I use my 11" 2018 IPP constantly. I think the only that would make me upgrade is an app I use often not performing well on it. MTG Arena was just released for iOS and it runs pretty poorly on my 2016 IPP (which isn't exactly a surprise).

A true matte black color option and upgraded screen technology. It doesn’t sound like either of those things are happening though on the 11.

I finally broke down and got the 2020 12.9" Pro a couple months ago, even though I was aware an upgrade was in the works. Didn't hear any rumors that this was going to be a game-changing release, and aside from maybe a 2TB drive and better battery life, I'm happy with what I have now. Nothing I do requires awesome processing power, and the current design with the magic keyboard meets all my use cases and needs.

My 2018 11" Pro is used for mostly simple things like tv, movies, web browsing, email, etc so I am not upgrading.
