I have a 12.9” iPad Pro. The screen makes it great for browsing and media consumption, but it’s a bit heavier to hold, definitely needs two hands, and typing while holding it is a bit error-prone. Very useable on the couch.

I hear you, a lot definitely comes due to the size. Have you tried switching over to the smaller keyboard when holding it with your hand? Might improve things a bit.

I currently own the 2018 iPad Pro 11-inch and it's been working great. I was dismayed that Apple refreshed the product only 2 months after I bought it. However, I could only see marginal improvements in the 2020 version such as slightly better processor and camera(s). Now that it's rumored that we'll see another update for 2021 I have my credit card out of my wallet ready to place an order. Mostly because I try to stay at least one generation behind the current model of most any Apple product I own to defend against obsolescence. But I'd like to gain increased memory, speed and wireless performance.

macOS. Otherwise iPad is basically still a toy. Can’t see upgrading. Rumors don’t bode well. Looks like more of the same.
I mean, every iPad upgrade basically follows the same formula with the new one being a faster version of the old one; sometimes with a new shape, sometimes with a new color, and sometimes with a new screen. The 2021 one will faster with a new screen.

you should buy a TV , u dont think 14 or 15 inch ipad is like carrying a whole tv
It was only a generation ago that a 12" TV weighed about 30 pounds, and people put them on carts to push them from room to room. And they only got 5 channels of analog TV broadcast in real time.

You can purchase a 17" laptop that only weighs 3 pounds. If an iPad is 2/3 the weight of a laptop, that's 2 pounds. Yeah, it's a bit heavy for a tablet, but it's only a few ounces more than the current 12.9". It's probably a niche market, but I could see combining this with a bluetooth speaker/headphones for a second media center/workstation in a small apartment or when traveling.

I have the 2018 11" iPad Pro, but purchased it in 2020 shortly after the 2020's were released (bought a new-in-box version on secondary market at substantial discount). As such, it's really only a year old now, and running great with full battery life.

I don't think there's anything really that can come out with the 2021 that would make me want to upgrade, given my situation. I'm likely going to jump on the 16" MBP when it gets released later this year (to replace my 2016 13" MBP), so already have something I'm saving up for.

I think even more so given rumors all point to a fairly iterative/incremental update of the 2021 iPP's, it's unlikely it'll be in the cards for me.

bought an iPad Air 2 weeks ago, and love it.
im thinking of swapping it for an iPad Pro. because im using the device way more the I thought I would do.

Im in doubt if I should get the 12? is it useable at the couch? or more for the desk with the magic keyboard?
Very useable on the couch-- I have both sizes, and the 12.9 gets a lot more use. 11 is used for sidecar to my Mac mini (while drawing on the 12.9 during teaching), for when actually lying down in bed (propped up on pillows I still go for 12.9), or if I want something small to throw in my purse to wait at a doctor's office. When traveling, I Zoom on the 11 and have reference documents open on the 12.9.

If I were buying new, I'd go with the Air and the 12.9 as my combo.

What’s a ghost touch if I may ask? Something like an unintended input on the screen?
Yeah I get unintended touches constantly. Like I’ll be watching YouTube and a video randomly opens from the right side. Or I’ll be in full screen in Netflix and the buttons to pause and rewind randomly come up (same for any tv app). Or when I play Minecraft my tools randomly swing. Idk what is wrong with the display but I don’t want to pay out of pocket for a fix... might just be more worth it to get the new iPad Pro... if it supports my 2nd gen pencil... argh.

I made a mistake buying a 2020 12.9” IPP as I enjoyed the 11” size much more. Looking forward to returning to the smaller size!

Yeah, larger size, like 15”, would probably be the only thing that would hook me in, as I use it mostly for art.

Absolutely not. I don't want a TV, a TV is static, I want something I can move around with 1 hand. And a TV works only for videos and in landscape mode...

Let me make this clear: that would not be my only iPad, and my guess is that quite a few of those that would buy an iPad pro max would have another, smaller iPad, too.

And I wouldn't be holding it for hours in my hand... I mean even the current 12.9 is too heavy for that.
But holding it with 1 hand while carrying it around the house then putting it on a stand or somewhere to rest? Doing that with anything weighting like a Macbook 12 or less is comfortable, nothing to do with a TV.

I actually already have a 15in tablet.
It's called the Surface Book 2. It only weighs 800 grams. That's barely more than my 1st gen 12.9 pro. It's amazing, but it only lasts 2 hours when detached and it's Windows, which is better than iPadOS for some things and worse for others, and it's 3.2 (I prefer 4.3).
Apple could easily make a 15in iPad that weights 800gr and lasts 10 hours (Apple Silicon is much more efficient than Intel).
Or a 14in iPad that weighs as much as the first gen 12.9 (730gr), but honestly 14in is only essentially 1in more than 12.9in... so not a big difference, 15in would make a difference.
I have got ton of uses for such an iPad, both in landscape and portrait mode, and none involve me holding it with 1 hand for a long time...

2017 10.5. Screen has cracks (but works great), battery doesn’t last as long (3-4 hours on actual illustration work), charging isn’t always reliable.
It had a good run. It is time for an upgrade. Depending on availability I am hoping for the 12.9, I might settle for an 11 if the ram is the same and immediately available.

(That said, I just told a friend on a budget to look for a second hand 2020 Air.)
Completely agree! My 2017 10.5 has a useless battery life now (maybe 3-4hours video watching).

I really want a much much better screen now though as the iPhones are so incredible. Hence if the 12.9 only gets mini LED I'll likely go for the larger one.

What would make me buy a new iPad Pro would be if they turned it into a Surface competitor and designed one that runs full MacOS. With those new M1 chips, Apple is primed to finally do that. It would be vastly superior to the Surface as it could run full desktop apps and even Windows itself through Parallels.

Lots of Surface/Windows users would be jumping ship if an iPad running full MacOS came out.

My 2018 11“ iPad Pro is 1,5 years old and has recently started developing those ugly white spots on the display, so it has to go. I‘m really sad though, I kinda babied it and loved using it, plus I personally don‘t need the current camera array at all.
I‘ll go with the 12.9“ this time around as I find the 11“ a tad small for my user case. Mini LED is a big selling point for me, otherwise I‘d just get myself the 2020 model. Excited for tomorrow!

Honestly I can't really think of anything I'd want over my 2018 11 inch. The iPad, like the iPhone, has matured. Same for my iPhone XS.

Feels like 2018 was the year a lot of apple products hit that sweet spot where everything after seems gimmicky and pointless.

The main feature I’d like to see is better friction for the Apple Pencil so that using it would feel more like writing on paper.

5G would be good.

A FaceTime camera on the long side would be great.

I’m looking forward to using LIDAR. A faster processor would be interesting. The iPad is already crazy fast.

My stuff is mostly software based, FCP X and external display support. I would love, love, love to see the latter, but it can’t happen without a major rework of iPadOS’s multitasking system.

Thinking on it, I wonder if the seemingly likely upgrade to TBolt relates somehow to lag less connection from an iPad to a Mac, something that’s more secure and functional than wireless options. Just spitballing.

Question for each man of culture or woman of culture here in the forums. If you already own a 2018 or 2020 IPad Pro, what would make you buy a new iPad Pro in 2021 ?
I have a 2020 11” iPad Pro.

I may consider a new 12.9” iPad Pro, to see how I get on with the size.

If I like it, I’ll keep it and take my 11” to my nan’s place, where I spend my weekends.
