Spot on regarding the better text selection tool! It's a pain.

Also, it really gets frustrating not being able to do some simple photo editing within the photo app. Flip the image horizontally, come on, do I need an extra ap for that?

Great suggestions everyone. It just shows how far away an iPad Pro is from becoming a real Pro device. Good thing is, I don't think any of the suggestions here would put too much strain on iOS. It can all be easily implemented.

Mouse/trackpad support and a better way of backing it up. Something more like time machine but with iCloud support would be ideal for me. I never again want to have to restore the entire device because of one accidentally deleted thing. As for the mouse support, I think it should be entirely optional and treated much like physical keyboards are treated in iOS. As in, when you connect a mouse, a pointer appears on the screen, but when you disconnect it or start using the touchscreen, it goes away. It’d make things like word processing and photo editing much easier for me when I’m already using a keyboard.

(And I personally don’t want a MacBook, what I would love is an iOS device with these features).

MacOS instead oh iOS

Or a combination of something between iOS and MacOS something making it more than a giant iPhone with a pencil.

So basically you want a touchscreen MacBook Air?

I should be able to unzip a .zip file on an i:as without some extra app.

THIS.

If you’re going to let us save a zip file the the files app you should make them usable meaning allow us to unzip.

I love using my iPad but to make it a real Pro machine I would need it to do some things that can be done only on my Mac as of now.

For instance - I would love to have Xcode on my iPad, the ability to use it for coding would be really awesome.

I know everyone has different needs so I'm wondering what yours might be? What do you need your iPad to do in order to have it become a true computer replacement?

i agree X Code.

Agreed with the below and with anyone else asking for trackpad/pointer support. For me it's the #1 ask. I have owned an iPad in the past but don't have one anymore. If bluetooth pointer/trackpad support were added, I'd go get an iPad Pro tomorrow.

It would, of course, always be optional (ie iPad is a touch-device first), but some use cases are far, far better addressed with a pointer device.

I believe the underlying support is already in iOS. You used to be able to enable it via jailbreak. I don't know if that's still the case, but I don't think this would be difficult for Apple to add.

Depends on the task. I think fingers are the default, most practical input for 50% of my work. That's why i like my iPad and use it. Pencil is great and better than anything else when drawing or doing photo editing. However, a mouse is better than anything else when the screen is vertical (like when using a smart keyboard) and for tasks like word processing, data input (excel) and data analysis. A mac cannot be that versatile, but an iPad could. It could be the perfect travel device and the implementation would require minimal work, unlike making Mac OS touchscreen-friendly

I understand it’s probably more of a need for a workflow but affinity photo and soon design are pretty much photoshop and illustrator on the pro.

Still, Adobe is the industry standard. I teach a design class and the students are expected to learn Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Because of that I can't get by with just an iPad.

And for my professional needs besides teaching, while Affinity Photo is pretty great, until they release Affinity Publisher for iOS, I can't get by with just an iPad for professional work.

I'm 99% sure you can rotate an image with in the built in images app, as for flipping them, yeah not sure ti does that, but does preview on the Mac either?

I agree with a lot of the people here:
1. Better file management system, although the Files app is a step in the right direction.
2. Have a USB 3 port as a replacement for or supplement to the Lightning port.
3. More robust apps.

Asking what makes a Pro computer is such a subjective question that it really boils down to what a person does to get paid. For some their needs will be met by what in iPad can do while others will not have their needs met.

1. Long press on Smart Keyboard to get accented characters
2. Rotate PDFs in the built-in PDF viewer (maybe just add a full Preview app)
3. Better Office apps. They’re good, but they need drag and drop, native iCloud integration, etc.

A good file manager. AND, in addition to that: automatic integration of new file functions in apps. Now I often have to wait for the developer to support new file functions (sharing, using Files, etc...) in an app. There are great developers like Omnigroup and Readdle who are quick to support new functions, but many others not so.
