Stopped reading after the part about Mac Pros being "expected" earlier this summer.

This statement completely discredits him.

No one with even a modicum of knowledge of the industry and the Mac Pro refresh cycle expected them.

I stopped reading at the part where he thinks the primary use for high end graphics cards are for gaming:

It exists primarily to allow users to pack their Macs with extra drives and third-party graphics cards for high-end gaming

how about 3D graphics or video editing among other things?!?

Why would Apple abandon the Mac Pro line? They won't unless it no longer is making a profit for them.

And even then, Id bet they'd continue it for a while. More than just profit, it helps define their brand by association of a certain type of user, and hey, maybee a little because of tradition.

Since Mine Is Brand New

I't would have no immediate effect, but when it comes time to replace my Pro, I'd be pretty confident that Apple will have a range of high spec. notebooks on offer by then....My upgrade cycle is usually around 3 years....Plenty of time for the design teams to come up with a new offering.

I'm pretty confident we will see high capacity SSD's replacing the current HDD's in the not too distant future. My Pro is a great machine, but it's a heavy beast (17") so I would welcome any improvement that reduced the weight a little.

For now I carry both my Pro and my MBA around.

Mini almost viable now.

Pffffft! Speak for yourself, mate...

... the Mini's gonna have to do a lot more in its next iteration to hit my radar. Right now, it's underpowered, overpriced, and oppressively limited in its upgradeability. Aside from being overpriced (controversial...?!), I don't see how it's a valid substitute for the Mac Pro at all.

But hey, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I reckon there's another Pro on the way.
