Regardless you should have Steam on your computer. There is this game particularly of mine, that is amazing, called AudioSurf.
In AudioSurf, you "ride" your own MP3 songs. You control a ship, in wipeout/F-Zero style, but the track of the levels is created by the beat of your own MP3 songs that is playing in the background.
Its an amazing game. You have to try it, and tell all your friends about it. Its so much fun.
Steam has alot of great little products like that.

Yeah this is a pretty nifty game, I tried the demo after reading the review up on IGN and ended up getting the full version, it's only 10 bucks and features so much variety in gameplay, sometimes it's pretty great to just listen to your favorite tunes while you play in some of the relaxed modes like the novice mono character. I also LOVED the idea of a scoreboard for each and every song and the variety of game modes as well as the flashy "visualizer-like" graphics and the sense of speed and depth of the gameplay, it's pretty awesome. I'm sure this one will stay on my computer for a long time, I just can't see myself getting bored with it since I can just keep pumping new tunes into the game.

I've never been much of a gamer, but here are some fun games (mostly old games) that I've enjoyed...

Dungeon Siege II - It's a bit older (not too old) and the graphics aren't that great, but it's a pretty cool storyline and the gameplay isn't terrible.

Evil Genius - This game was fun when it came out..You play as an evil genius who builds a secret base on his private island and attemp to dominate the world. Atleast try to check it out if you can't buy it :p

Dark Ages - Not an amazing game, but has, in my opinion, one of the best MMORPG storylines and communities. It used to be better, but some of the great things are politics and religion, and everything is run completely by the players. You can play unlimited for free now, or $10 a month for unrestricted play. I played it for a long time (unfortunately) xD

Counter Strike - I like 1.6, not Source. It's a fun FPS for wasting some time.

Command & Conquer 3 - If you enjoyed the Command and Conquer series, 3 was a great addition.

Command & Conquer Generals - Wasn't a great game in the C&C series as it doesn't have much of a plot, but, it's fun for spending a few hours here and there playing RTS's

Guild Wars - Wonderful game. Enough said.

Hope that helps a bit =] There are others, but, nothing I'm motivated enough to remember right now :p

Still love the old C&C Generals and playing Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii to death! :D

Starcraft.

The BEST RTS ever made. Whats more, its not just a game nowadays, its an e-sport. You cant imagine how popular this game is in South Korea If you have time I suggest you check out a recording of this game on youtube - one of my favorites!

No one mentioned Red Faction...

Red Faction (for the Mac)

It's probably becoming abandonware - but lots of custom levels from Levels4you.com

It is terribly old school (crica 2001) but lots of FPS - DM & CTF fun.

I thought I'd give WoW a break, and had a go at installing XP/BootCamp, so I could load up some of my older PC games ( Freedom Force/FF vs 3rd Reich, Morrowind ), except my AluMac shuts itself off during the XP install. I've given up, and gone back to WoW....

I used to play a lot of Red Faction back when it was released on the PS2, it was pretty fun messing around with the fully destructible enviroments (especially on that Lobby deathmatch map). The single-player campaign wasn't too shabby either but I'm not sure if it would still be enjoyable nowadays, much better shooters to be had out there.

Though now I'm kinda eager to replay it, you know for the nostalgia factor.

In general?

RTS: - RTS have gotten very far in the last few years. Company of Heroes, which is a great World war 2 RTS is one of the best there is. You should really try this demo. The expansion recently came out aswell.
A personal favorite for me is World in Conflict. Absolutely amazing game. Amazing visuels. Some people say it's the most graphic intensive game there is on the marked, besides Crysis!
If you are a hardcore RTS player. If you really know all the ropes and like it hard with micro management and like the idea of using dual monitors for better tactical strategy, check out the spirituel successor to TA, Supreme Commander.
Another one of my personal favorites is Medieval Total War 2, and this is the game I would recommend over all the others. The game is a mixture of a war RTS and a table top risk/stratego game. It might sound strange, and in a way it is, but its great. The goal is to take over the world. You start the game around year 1200, and then you play as a faction. The english, the french or some other. And then you you fight for power. Its awesome. You play through alternative history being witness to stuff like the black plauge, the crusades in the holy lands, the introduction of gun powder, discovery of the new world, attack of Hannibal on the roman empire, etc...

RPG: Back in 2006, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion made a big splash. This much more straight forward, open ended action First person RPG, boosted great graphics. Its a game that is worthy having in your collection. While the main story is nothing special and the fighting is a bit shallow, it does not have many of the game breaking bugs of its predecessors(Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind). Its fun just going off into the world and do random stuff and quests and help people.
Another recent game, is called The Witcher, which is based on some novels by an acclaimed Polish fantasy writer. You play in a fictional fantasy land, as a monster slayer called Witcher boosting large swords and white hair. The combat is quite strange, and it will seperate folk. I recommend the game highly due to its interesting mechanics. But its not quite the wake up call for Action RPGs, that we had hoped it would be. There still is no single player action RPG like Diablo 2.
And speaking of Diablo 2, you might also want to try Hellgate London. The demo at least. Some of Diablos creators created this post apocalyptic re-take on diablo, set in london. Many people where dissapointed by this game, but they have updated it constantly since last year, so maybe its better now.
And while we are speaking of Diablo creators, another bunch of ex-blizzard veterans formed their own company back in 00, called Arenanet. They released a game a few years back called Guild Wars. It got alot of attention as the press labeled it as "the free MMORPG".
Besides World of Warcraft(WoW) which came out almost a year before it, GW is the only "real" western MMO success story. It just passed the 5 million sold mark. Though this is only half of WoWs current Subscriber base.
I recommend that you download free trials for both WoW and Guild Wars. Fileplanet.com is a good place to create a free account.
While you are at it, you should also take a look of the free trials for the following: Lord of the Rings Online, Tabula Rasa, EVE and Everquest 2.

FPS: Alot of FPS have been released lately. Some of the more interesting ones, includes STALKER. An open world FPS with light RPG elements.
Also there is Bioshock. Not quite System Shock 3, in my mind, but still an excellent game boosting impressive animations and a believeable world. Believe me when I say, that it is worthy of your attention. It takes place in the early 60s, where your plane crashes. You find a lighthouse. You go into it. And suddenly you find yourself in an abandoned(not really) underwater utopia that went wrong. people started buthering each other. Now your stuck in hell under water with no way to get up. Its an interesting and different game. It recieved alot of praise for its art style. "Art Deco". It looks like something from ages past. It got a look to it you wont find in other games.
You mentioned that you had BF2, and while it may dissapoint you, I would say that BF2 for the PC is still one of the best things there is. If you can crank up the visuals there is few things better than a 32 vs 32 fight. You might wanna try Battlefield 2142, a BF2 in space. Some people love it, others hate it. Quite like it Was with Battlefield Vietnam, before 2 was released!
Unreal Tournament 3, also recently came out. It seemed to drown in the wake of the others. Even the PC version of Unreals own Gears of War, which you should also check out.
Crysis of course. The most beautiful game in the world. Bar none. Nothing can touch it. Its far Cry on fire. Crytek outdid themselfs. If you got a beefy machine, and I mean, REAL BEEFY, then go ahead.
I also recommend trying
Call of Duty 4 and Orange Box are obvious recommendations too.
Quake Wars.
I could go on, but I would really recommend getting Orange Box. You will Get Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, and Episode 2, Portal(which is mindblowingly amazing) and Team Fortress 2! 5 Games in 1. And they are all of the highest quality.

A good place to download demos for free is fileplanet.com (yes you can create a free account. they just try to make you buy a full account) and filefront.com There are demos for almost all the games I highlighted(except for Oblivion).

What to look forward to in 2008: 2007 was amazing for PC games, but 08 looks great. People are really itching for Starcraft 2! It showed when over 50,000 South Koreans attended for the games revealing.:O Pretty scay. Starcraft is religion to alot of people, hehe.
Also worth talking about, is of course Sim, creator Will Wrights "Spore". It will be one to watch.
And finally, after 10 years in the making, it finally seems that Duke Nukem Forever will be released this year. But then again... Its Duke Nukem!
Also, a prequel to STALKER is coming out this year, called STALKER: CLear Sky. The developers promises big improvements to the core gameplay.

Also, this year but it might not make it until next year, is Guild Wars 2 aswell as the next WoW expansion, called Wrath of the Lich King, boosting the cap up to level 80.
As for other MMOs this year, alot of people are waiting for Age of Conan, which is coming out soon, and Warhammer Online! These two games have massive hype and big followings.
Left4Dead is also a big release for Steam. Still running on source, this is a rare one for PC indeed. An online Co-op zombie adventure, where you have to play as either a few survivors or as the actual zombies themselfs. This should be really good.
Battlefield Heroes is coming out this summer, and it will be completely free, so look forward to that aswell.

Great summary! This is information that I have been looking for too. Thank you for typing that out!

The Orange Box. I'm almost done with HL2. I played TF2....meh I think i'll play the TF Forever mod.
I bought a mac version Prey a couple weeks ago during the last day compusa was open.
I'm anxiously awating the mac version of UT3

Im intrested in running bootcamp - I have Dawn of War, Dawn of War winter assult, Battle for middle earth, and Company of Heros.. I recommend Company of Heros or (expansion-->)Opposing Fronts (Based on World War II), check it out on youtube, what impresses me about the game is the realism and physics, for example, you have a squad of rangers (Americans with Thompsons) accompanied by a tank. the tank blows up and your soldiers end up dead and might ragdoll hit a building and fall over. Very realistic if you ask me.

madden08. lol

i used to be a big gamer, but with 2 kids, my own biz and exercising alot, i don't make alot time for gaming anymore. i'd like to have an xbox or playstation, but my oldest kid shows that easily addictive nature so screw that.

i might splurge and get the new command and conquer for the mac, but until then, madden has enough years for the franchise and other stuff to keep me going :)

Getting the MAC version of command and conquer... what an excellent idea to prevent game addiction!

Since you'll probably never, ever get to play the already released expansion pack with the mac version, you're likely to get bored with the game sooner than everybody else.
I mean, you might still get addicted, but hopefully for not as long.

I'm not bashing EA's horrendous mac support or anything... i'm.... just making conversation.

Edit: Oh, and btw.... I've been playing Team Fortress 2. When Mass Effect is released for Windows at the end of this month I'll play that. And after I finish with that (it's a single-player game, so the replay value is limited), I'll purchase Call of Duty 4. By then hopefully the mac version will be out, and then I can stop playing games in bootcamp... for the time being.

I have the first 3 Dawn of War games (not the recent expansion) and Battle for Middle Earth 2. These games can be run in Crossover Games, so you don't need to use Bootcamp for them (unless you want to). I may be using the Gametap "hack" for Dawn of War instead of Crossover Games, though. I think it worked slightly better in the Gametap version of Wine. Star Wars Empire at War and Forces of Corruption work in Crossover Games, too.

I just got the freeware Freespace 2 port for OS X as well as Independence War 2 on Windows (only tried it in Bootcamp Windows for now). I never played those when they came out, and I'm in the mood for some space combat. I also have Sins of a Solar Empire, though I'm waiting a better AI patch to play it more than I do. I'm considering getting Galactic Civilizations II and the expansions as well.

On my MacBook I've been rocking games mostly on Steam:
Day of Defeat
Counter-Strike: Source
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch
Counter-Strike: Condition Zero

But I've also been playing a bunch of Sim City 4.

- Team Fortress 2 (part of Orange Box which is good vaue if you don't have the other titles). It's great if you learn to use the advantages of each class and play on servers where people communicate. There are 9 distinct characters to play! There are also all kinds of different maps / servers, melee only maps, some servers have low gravity, melee only sudden death is fun.

- FarCry (highly rated)

- COD4 (Have beat the game on 2nd most difficult level, but holy **** the waiting-for-heli level is friggen impossible on the most difficult setting). Some say the multiplayer is good, but I think it'll be good only when you get better weapons / mods, or if you enjoy a challenge.

Need to try (good reviews)
- Crysis
- Stalker
- BioShock

Need to try (not sure about reviews)
- Star Wars: Republic Commando
- Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighters (I loved the Ghost Recon that was available on OS X)
- GTA series
- and in general look up game reviews to find good games. No need to get the bad games.

Available for OS X, good with game pads:
Lego Star Wars I
Lego Star Wars II

Crysis.

I try to stick to only one or two games at a time, so between playing WoW, I am only going to play Crysis until it's done. Awesome game. Absolutely beautiful. I do hate that they had to put in the very tired cliche of "You're quite a ways into the game, so we'll capture you and take away all your guns. Have fun starting from scratch again." Then again, you only carry a few weapons so it's not a huge deal.

I will be moving on to Bioshock next. I'll take a few hours at some point to play CoD4 as well.

What I'm playing..

iMac - WoW (lvl 38 warlock so far, going sloooow)
PS3 - Unreal Tournament III
360 - GTA IV (where's my money biotch??? :D)
