My biggest concern is the lack of side protection on this and the folio case. One slip and the corner is going to get dinged up. Has anyone that owned these type of cases in the past have any comments?

Oh and the price.
Exactly my thoughts. But also-if the iPad were to slip off unlike the 1st gen this is metal on metal and one or both are going to get damaged. I'll stick with the Logitech.

It still blows my mind people are into it. It weights a ton and makes device look frankensteined. There is a Macbook for it. Less pain less strain, and adequate desktop OS. And iPad should better be used with best pointer device – fingers. Considering new iPad Pros are not even a fraction cheaper than MBA, there is really no point in trying to combine them.

Also you can pirate Microsoft stuff on macOS hehe🍹🏴‍☠️ Saves money that would have been needlessly wasted on ms365 subscription

Its a shame They force you to buy new very expensive keyboard when you upgrade the iPad…why people do not complain about it? I’m forced to sell old m1 12.9 iPad and Apple keyboard Together

Has there been any comment or impressions on using this on your lap?

I have the 2020 11” iPad Pro and a MKB but I can’t use it on my lap. It’s too top-heavy with the iPad, wobbles and in danger of falling off. I only use it on flat surfaces because of this. Hoping this new aluminium one is better for actual lap use.

The perpendicular angle of the lower piece relative to the base makes this contraption look very prone to toppling over backwards. The prior iteration wasn't exactly stable even though that same part was canted forward. Hopefully the lower weight of the iPad this time around means they can get away with it. I'm also surprised they have metal-to-screen contact with the palm rest.

I don't know what's so special about this keyboard, all I know is that it costs a sh**load of money, making it a luxury accessory for a device that's incredibly inconvenient for even basic word processing when you need to have other files and windows at hand. I'm a proud owner of an iPad M1 with a Magic Keyboard, which unfortunately I only see as a 'beautiful toy,' but when it comes to getting some actual work done, like everyone else, I bring along their faithful MacBook Air.

I would be interested in knowing wether the new keyboard is lighter or heavier than the previous one.

The new Magic Keyboard looks great, not gonna lie. However, I still prefer a standalone wireless keyboard along with a Magic Mouse or a Magic Trackpad on a desk, while using an aluminum stand to dissipate the heat from that new copper Apple logo in the back.

Definitely lighter as the previous one, this was said. However, I am also surprised that it is so hard to find the exact weight difference somewhere online.

Oh and the price.

I've owned the Magic Keyboard for my 13" iPad Pro for about 15 months now.

The pros:
- it is great to type on it
- it looks awesome when the iPad just "floats" in the air

The cons:
- it's expensive
- it's heavy
- it's thick (way thicker than my M2 MBA)
- there's no way to use the iPad in portrait mode with the magic keyboard attached

Bottom line is that if you do a lot of typing, it's a good product. Just realize it's not a very good all-around cover at all.

AFAIK there has been no definitive feedback on the actual weight of this new KB?. The current Magic Keyboard is a brick (could I chain my dog to it? maybe)😆. Perhaps - they corrected course on the new one? I also mourn the loss of the Folio keyboard (it passes the coffee spill test and it is not bulky or heavy). Perhaps the new tab is so thin that the Folio doesn't sufficiently protect it.

We'll need to pick up the new Pro with the new Magic Keyboard in hand to know.... 15 May.

I just want the Magic Keyboard with TouchID (not the one with the Numeric keypad) in black/silver and ideally with backlit keys for my Mac! How hard can that be? I'm hoping with the USB-C refresh but when's that happening?

I hope they fix the passive battery drain of both the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil. iPads last so long with no accessories.

I’ve owned the SmartKeyboard Folio, no aluminum, and it’s made out of some sort of rubbery polymer in the outside. No damage when dropped whatsoever. However, it wears with use and some corners start to un-glue with the years…

As far as this new aluminum Magic Keyboard, I guess that if it’s dropped open and at an angle where the inside part is hit, then yea, it could dent. But that’s highly unlikely and if you drop it open with the iPad Pro attached, you’ll likely have worse problems if you don’t have AppleCare+. Like a $1000-$2000 problem.

No idea, I’m waiting for the USB-C refresh as well, hoping that they implement Bluetooth 5.2, ideally 5.3, or at least BT 5.0.

As someone who has owned two iPads in the past, I just don’t see the value over having a touchscreen device with a keyboard, over a laptop with a full-blown operating system. As a video/photo professional, I loved having something as small as my 9.7 inch iPad Air 2, but when you add in the bulk and weight of a keyboard and it’s thicker than a laptop, I just don’t understand why that’s a benefit over having a thin, powerful laptop. Can someone please enlighten me?

It’s nice but really doesn’t protect the iPad enough. I’m sure Logitech will have a better version for 199.

I'm bummed they have gotten rid of the folio keyboard case. It's light and was an ok keyboard for light tasks. If I'm doing something that requires the magic keyboard, I'll just use my laptop.
Amen. The iPad 9th gen with Smart Folio is the best breakfast nook newsreader ever.
