I love my 2022 iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard, but damn this is giving me FOMO
I'd like a function row...but then it just feels like they'll add something else next gen that should have been included before. I also bought mine new for $99 from Best Buy, so can't justify spending 3.5 times more for a few keys.

MEASUREMENTS. Does anyone have teh measurements of the new Magic Keyboard compared to the old one? I have been looking everywhere and cannot find it. I built a customer car mount and it is a snug fit with the current model. THanks!

Of course this keyboard wouldn’t work with the previous iPad Pro or the previous keyboard wouldn’t work with the new iPads. Apple wants you to spend that $$$$

As someone who has owned two iPads in the past, I just don’t see the value over having a touchscreen device with a keyboard, over a laptop with a full-blown operating system. As a video/photo professional, I loved having something as small as my 9.7 inch iPad Air 2, but when you add in the bulk and weight of a keyboard and it’s thicker than a laptop, I just don’t understand why that’s a benefit over having a thin, powerful laptop. Can someone please enlighten me?

For me it’s combining them into one package rather than having 2 separate devices. Being able to have it in a laptop format when at a desk then take it off when on the sofa or bed. Touchscreens are far superior when lying down and relaxing. Laptops are awkward as hell in bed.

Most people don’t need a full blown desktop OS these days.

I would have been a day 1 buyer of the new ipad pro, but I will not buy it without the smart keyboard folio. I do not use my iPad as a macbook replacement; I have a 14in MBP for that. I use it for sheet music at the piano and to consume content and do emails on planes, while sitting at a bar on business trips, and as a second monitor via sidecar for working on the go. For this use case, flipping the case around and using it as a tablet propped up in landscape mode is critical - as well as the ability to have the case folded back completely and having it fit on a music stand.

I honestly can't believe apple is not providing a keyboard case that lets people use their tablet as a tablet. Cost them a $2k sale.

The iPad Pros with Magic Keyboard work great on airplanes, as they hinge away from the seat in front of you when you place them on the tray. This is better than any laptop.

But it doesn't replace what a laptop can do, so if you're lugging around a laptop to watch a movie, you're doing it wrong in the first place.

The 11-inch version of the Magic Keyboard is priced at $299, and the 13-inch model is $349.
For this price, Tim Cook better come to my house and high-five me for spending so much money on a tablet keyboard. 🤯

You can’t detach the screen from the MacBook though. That’s the appeal of this device. It can be 2 different things.
It *can* be two different things -- a tablet and a tablet with a keyboard. Until Apple fixes iPadOS, it won't be a laptop replacement.

But most people don’t need a full desktop OS. A tablet with a keyboard does most things, hell most people I know just use their phones for everything.

I still find it an overly engineered solution to prop up an iPad. Granted it seems like a viable solution if you are at a stable desk with lots of room, but for other things like cramped spaces, lap use, using it in a bed/sofa, or if I just want to quickly flip it backwards to draw or write it doesn't seem like a great solution. Even a traditional laptop is a better solution, in particular 2-in-1's where you can just flip the keyboard underneath and still have the stability and balance of the base when folded out.

I'm honestly still baffled why they don't just accept the 2mm or so thickness of a kickstand, especially in light of how thick the magic's magnetic back is, that would add an immense amount of functionality. It's this odd penchant for thinness sacrificing functionality that I don't understand, or am I mistaken and are consumers driven to these devices because of how thin they are?

*EDIT: Phones for everything that is content consumption / social media. The iPad is perfect for those people...it is still after all just a blown up iPhone for most. This thing still needs an OS revamp to be justified for most hardcore users, the hardware has peaked with this release.

It’s not for hardcore users. That’s what the Mac is for iPads are for the everyday man not the tech crowd.

And no pro doesn’t mean professional anymore.

I'm a bit baffled by the statement that "Apple hasn’t changed the underlying look of the Magic Keyboard" since the look of the keyboard is quite different in multiple respects. The first thing I noticed was the entirely new hinge shape, which is immediately evident when it is closed. Open it up and the differences are enormous. Is "underlying look" perhaps referring only to color, or am I missing something?

Anyone who has no problem paying 400 Euro for a tablet keyboard earns too much. Disgusting prices.

I really like this but to be honest it isn't secure enough for me. Logitech protects the iPad which is my #1 priority here. The magnets hold it in place but it easily comes look and can crack. For how expensive the iPad has become I require the protection first then the 'nice design'.

Put a M-chip, storage, ram, etc in it and sell it as a standalone computer. Stream via Airplay.

Since they added a function row, how about cmd+Q actually working to quit apps à la macOS? It's second nature to me and its non-function on the magic keyboard always grated. I think I already know the answer...probably need the rumored Magic Keyboard Pro. Only $1,099.

No one is mentioning the addition of the Esc key. I’d cop just for that. It’s always annoyed me.
