Why not put the GTX 980 Ti in the double wide slot and put the GT 120 in slot 2?

^^^^Sure, I should have thought of that:oops:

And to joot, you do know that slot 1 is on the bottom - Right?

^^ I didn't know slot 1 (bottom) was double wide? I couldn't figure why others were able to fit two GPU's and two other cards in all four slots...I'll have to look more closely at the slots and re-arrange them then...thanks for the heads up guys...

Oh wait, because I am using an external PSU to power the 980 Ti, I got the two pci-e power cords running through one of the slots from the back...

You can't use Bootcamp/Windows on a PCI-e SSD because the OS will recognize it as an external drive which doesn't work. If you're out of bays you can use an optical bay with an adapter.

^^ Yes, you are correct. I actually was going to take my main SSD (with OSX) on one of the drive bays and put it onto the OWC pci-e slot. And then put the 2nd empty SSD (for bootcamp Windows) onto the empty drive bay. This should work.

I use one of my two Apricorn DUO x2 PCIe with Samsung 840 500GB and I boot Windows 8/10 (Creators Update 15063.138) since 2014!

So please elaborate your claim!

Cheers

Nothing fancy here.

Slot 1/2 - GTX 680 Mac Edition
Slot 3 - Empty
Slot 4 - SATA3 controller card with Samsung 850 Pro 256GB
Slot 5 - Inateck 4 port USB 3.0 card

Slot 2. Sonnet Tempo SSD Pro Plus --> 2 on-card SSDs in RAID-0 for OS/Boot and 2 eSATA ports connected to two 4-bay Port Multiplied drive enclosures running RAID-5. Managed by SoftRAID 5.x.
Slot 3. Inatek 4-port USB 3.0.
Slot 4. Empty.

Daughter card upgraded to BlueTooth 4.x and 802.11ac for AirDrop and Continuity.

1. Titan X Pascal
2. SM951
3. SM951 Raid0 with 2.
4. Titan X Maxwell

Sata1 and Sata2 are used for 6pin power for both Titan X. Photo shows the cable and the rig. No external power needed.

As I don't have room for another Sata bay, I am looking for a solution to bootcamp windows 10 and MacOS between the two PCIe SM951s. There is another guy says PCIe ssd works in bootcamp, but I do not realize how he did. If some of you know more detail, please share.

^^^^First time I've ever seen a double wide GPU in slot 4! Without drives there's plenty of room. But only 4 lanes.

There is no penalty by doing this. The two SM951s Raid0 at speed of ~1400GB both write and read. In the octane and LuxMark test, putting slot1 or slot4 gets identical result.

He wasn't referring to the SM951, but rather the GPU not having a x16 lane, that it normally uses. A single SM951 closely saturates a x4 lane slot, which is why using RAID0 in a x4 slot yields almost the same read/write speed.

Yeah I know, in my post I mean the Titan X in slot4 has no penalty either. Slot1 or Slot4 yields similar Octane or LuxMark GPU score. At least I do not notice difference whether being X16 or X4 in the synergy of CUDA/OpenCL compute power. The way I use slot 2, 3 for raid (size 512GB) is simply because cheaper. At same ssd size, $99x2 + 2 adopters are cheaper than $380 + one adopter.

I wish some one give me directions to install SM951 bootcamp to win10. A little more detail would be great. A guy says using "efi" which I am lost from there. And after he successfully installed, will a "startup disk" icon available in the System Preference?

I'm trying to find a solution for PCIe extender which would allow access to Slot 3.

Windows can be installed as EFI or BIOS/CSM.

Using a retail disc install, you have a choice if you hold down the ALT/OPTION key while booting. I have done this myself. I cannot remember the names exactly, but I think the two Windows installation choices were something like "EFI" and "Windows". You'd want "EFI".

Using a retail USB install, I think EFI is the only choice.

I am not sure what happens if you make your own disc or USB installer.

I only have experience with win7 and SATA drive for bootcamp. I have a GT120 so I can handle the boot screen for installation.

When should the efi be created for SM951? under win10 or Disk utilities? and after a successful installation, will I see a "startup disk" in the System Preference Pane that we normally switch between the OS? Or because it's efi so I won't be seeing it? Do I need to have boot screen whenever I choose SM951 as boot camp?

I am just hoping I don't have to use GT120 every time I boot because I have to use Nvidia web driver for my Titan X.

It looks like a 2.5" 7mm SSD / HDD can fit in HDD bay 3 / 4. The SSD is so light that can just plug into the SATA port and leave it hang at there. Or a tape is good enough to hold it up.

If not, are both optical bay occupied? A simple solution would be plug in a SATA SSD into the empty optical bay (again, just leave it there with no mounting / support is necessary), and installs Windows in the traditional (easy) way.

Or why not get the power from bay 3/4, and leave bay 1/2 for HDD / SSD? It really looks like enough room for that.

I don't have an SM951 and I don't even understand that question. There is no "EFI being created". You should probably ask your questions in a more relevant thread or a new thread where the appropriate people are more likely to see it.

There is no room for STATA bay 3, 4 because I used adopters. If straight plug in without adopter, maybe, but it's hard to make it firm without something and it may stop the movement of the GPU fan on card. I am kind of like to make the PCIe SSD bootcamp works if I could. I want to keep everything tight and neat.
