Downton Abbey- Elated with the return of a certain character who had run off to Boston to figure things out. It's surprising in the framework of a story primarily based on character relationships how such an event can cause such substantial feelings. :D

Yes, agreed, it was very nice when that happened, wasn't it?

I've just started watching Hannibal. My god only on the 2nd episode and I am gripped. Kind of confused though, in the TV series is Hannibal the killer and other people are trying to recreate his murders?

Hannibal is excellent. It was amazing how they took this story that I had read once and seen in the movies already (two times, if you count the Manhunter remake) and made it new and exciting. Except for the final episode which was so disappointing but no more on that. If I remember correctly, you aren't supposed to know who the bad guy(s) are yet. The show is a little confusing at times, and I did have to rewatch more then a few moments to get stuff I missed.

Caught Episode 1 of the new SyFy series The Magicians on On Demand. Young adults find themselves auditioning for a Magic College in upstate New York. I enjoyed it, interesting characters, interesting effects, and will continue watching, even as I lump it with the growing body of young adult novels, movies, tv shows, etc as it is and was published in 2009, although I did not read it. Double eoisode premier on 25 Jan.

Do yourself a favor. Tape this. Read the books. I'm two thirds of the way through the last one.

The premiere is quite good though. The trick is, they're covering the first two books simultaneously, because the second book tells two stories at once.

Thanks for the tip. If the books are really good, it might be better to watch the lesser show and save the books for second? One key for any show is likable characters which the Magicians has. :)

Just saw the premiere of "DC Legends of Tomorrow" it was fun, entertaining to watch. You have to be a somewhat of a geek and a comic book fan to appreciate it, but it's not an requirement. Two Thumbs Up! :)

Spoilerish...

Childhood's End Pt1- On SyFy. A 3 part mini-series, based on a Ray Bradbury (my favorite SciFi author) story.. They are here to help us. So far so good. SyFy Network appears to have turned a corner for the better.

ChildhoodsEnd.jpg

Watched Part 2 last night. I'm getting the picture. As a viewer you have to suspect something sinister is happening. :)

Childhood's End, Part 3 finished the mini-series and also read the book. I thought the end of the show was profound and sad, and it might just of been me, but... The TV show actually did a better job with intrigue and atmosphere, displaying human sacrifice, emotion, and the pain of loss, than the book did, (absent friends m the book), including some nice cinematography. :)

But where the show failed IMO, was it was so intent on intrigue, mystery, and playing on the fears of a "hidden agenda" that it came off as sinister, and misleading as to what was actually happening to the human race and why, nor did it bother to clarify it. And it did a very poor job of explaining the fate of the Earth, which the book explained. However, I found the book to drag, unlike Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chonicles which is some of the best science fiction I've read. :)

The key-
is that the evolution of humans was a natural process the Overlords came to guide, ensuring we did not destroy ourselves, not something they foisted on us and the origin, the first evidence of this change was something we called paranormal, a brilliant idea IMO.

I recognized Charles Dance, aka Tywin Lannister in episode 2. :)

I have mentioned this before but Deutschland 83 is superb, a really good and gripping drama set in Germany (both the old Federal Republic, i.e. the old West Germany and the DDR, the old East Germany in 1983). Well worth a look, and an excellent recreation of the era, its fears, hopes and sensibilities.

Great soundtrack too, if you remember the 80s.

It should be waiting for me on my DVR from last night and will watch it in a few hours after work. It sounds like, from your reaction, that it was a hit.

At first I was surprised they didn't change the beginning because its old as f, but i guess it would've made the purists angry. Anyway I was happy with the quick pacing and how everything escalated so quickly. See the Scully and Mulder back together again was like going into a part of your closet you haven't been in for 20 years and liking it, haha.

USA Network has been running many ads for Mr Robot which is getting ready to start a second season, calling it the greatest show ever!!! Seriously, is it worth watching? Thanks!

Well, to my dismay it wasn't on my DVR like it should have been. I suspect that football game that was on prior to the show interfered with it. As a precautionary measure, I set the DVR to record the news following the X-Files just in case it ran long. That was on the DVR and and I started playing it, the X-Files was still showing.

I checked Hulu and thankfully, they had last nights episode there and available so I watched it there.

I was very pleased and impressed with it too. They picked up just about where they left off and are sticking to the main underlying theme the show always had. This in contrast to the second movie they did which was terrible and not what I expected of them. Mulder was still himself with crazy calls to Scully alluding to some conspiracy and then abruptly hanging up on her as she tries desperately to get more information from him.

I also liked how they kept the original intro too, since this was a reboot of the original series. Even on the Hulu landing page for this episode it called it season 10.

I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Well, it did just recently win a Golden Globe for best drama TV series, and had a lot of critic support from the beginning (being renewed for second season even before the first one aired). It's not a perfect show by any means, but it's quite good and interesting.

Was advised this morning by Suddenlink, they are having an issue with Mr Robot On-Demand, and they are working on it.

Right now I'm catching up on some episodes of The Expanse on the DVR. Plus I have a bunch of episodes of 12 Monkeys waiting for me since the new season starts soon and I want to give it another try. I also have Parts Unknown on there and Colony, all of which I want to see..... Just never enough time to do all the things I want, plus watch TV.

I'm looking forward to this OJ Simpson thing on FX (The People vs. OJ Simpson). It's a case I've heard so much about all my life yet never really read up on the details. Apparently this mini-series is supposed to be good, so I'll have high expectations for it.

I binged on The 100 last year while I was home sick. It's a damned good show that nobody has really heard of. The first 2 seasons are on Netflix and season 3 is airing now on the CW.

Read more about it here

Yeah, I mentioned the 100 in a thread a while back with a similar post. I was really surprised with how good it was. We are currently watching the new season.

I'll have to investigate. :)

It could be interesting, but that case brings up negative feelings so I'm not sure if I'd watch it.
