My MP randomly decides on which monitor it will display the boot menu and login icons (since the background is identical on all monitors until logged on, I can not trace any actual logic in this).
Ok, I've seen this too. I guess how annoying this is will depend on your setup. For 2 side-by-side it doesn't make a big difference.

The full screen apps do not go well with "separate spaces for each display" setting, turning the other display(s) off in extreme cases.
Hmm ok. I have *not* seen that, and always have that setting on, and make pretty decent use of full-screen mode.

Try to switch it off ;)
I run switched on, but it's kinda annoying with F1 2013 or even Civ 6. My xPlane also acted weirdly (got it sorted out, though, thanks to unorthodox and extremely flexible multiple display handling built into the simulator).

Sidecar has full touch. It’s insane to not have this. The iPad can be a total control surface for podcasting and audio.

... Ok now I don't understand what you expect to happen.

If you have it turned off, both displays share each "space". It doesn't turn the other display off when you go to fullscreen, it just goes to a black background because the app is in full screen mode. What exactly do you expect it to do? That's literally why the option for separate spaces per-display exists.

annoying how? also, games in my experience are rarely bastions of good integration with macOS. My wife used to play some games that wouldn't even respect Cmd-Tab - if you wanted to switch to something else without quitting you had to hit Cmd-Option-Escape to bring up the kill-app window, and then cmd-tab from there.

I expect the OS to follow its own logic - if it can not run combine several displays into a virtual single screen, do not mess with my other displays while I full-screen on a single one (because a combined full-screen doesn't even exist).

The "use separate spaces" setting and blanking other displays is just a poor excuse for a non-existent display expansion. The logic behind Mac OS display management is that never mind the "spaces" setting, the displays are always separated, with an option to move windows between (but not span over) displays.
Over years I stumbled across projects that involved a 56-track mixer panel in Logic that doesn't fit the 30" ACD. Obviously I could just buy a 64-track mixer and hook it up, but it costs around 70 decent 30" ACDs.

Blanking the displays. Not making use of >1 display as a true expanded resolution.

They are. And I regret having to install Windows just to make a quite an expensive rig to make proper use of my displays...

Well maybe they'll improve it window/display management.

I'd kind of like to see an improvement over the current side-by-side full screen mode. Perhaps something that adapts to screen orientation/size (i.e. ultra wides would probably benefit from 3 or 4 side by side, a rotated display would benefit from vertical split, etc.

But, as I'm right now dealing with it: I'd love for the built-in software RAID to get first-class RAID10 support. It can already do it (make two RAID1 sets, then RAID0 over them) but its clunky, and Disk Utility almost always says one of the members is "missing". It'd also be nice if it was smarter about rebuild/repair options. For some reason it thinks of the disks in one of the RAID1 sets failed, but then also decided to rebuild that disk (without me replacing it), so I added an extra disk (same size) I had to the drive array and tried to add it to that RAID1 set, so it would repair onto the brand new disk rather than trying to repair back onto the existing possibly damaged disk - and it said it can't, because it's "repairing"..

macOS Messages app support for special effects in iOS Messages app (like Confetti, etc).

  • Update for Photos app with new features just like the one on iOS being able to edit/crop/rotate videos. Also 3rd party extension support for videos would be nice.
  • Option to apply adjustments locally on Photos app.
  • Option to sort the songs in a playlist alphabetically just as we could with iTunes (Please someone let me know if we can already do this!).
  • Being able to choose "Automatic Graphics Switching" on/off separately for Battery and Power Adapter usage.

Unlocking Macs with your iPhone/iPad using TouchID or FaceID without a 3rd party app (for devices without TouchID like iMacs). I don't know why this is not a thing yet.

The ability to turn JavaScript on/off per site in Safari.

The TV and Music apps feel unfinished, there is clearly work to do there.

Allow Time Machine to backup to APFS volumes.

Bring Automator up to date, it feels unloved.

As a developer the main thing they could do for me is improve the documentation. Microsoft is so much better at this.

Proper handoff/continuity for Apple Music. Embarrassing that it doesn't already have it given that Spotify has's a wonderful implementation of the same idea for many years now. And then just do something to speed up the app and make it feel less sluggish.

Biggest things I would want.

Major upgrades to the mail and possibly calendar app to compete with Spark and Microsoft Outlook (though after recently switching to Outlook for Mac I have come to the conclusion that it is garbage compared to the Windows version for 365)

Default Aerial screensaver (Like on AppleTV)

Would LOVE the ability to run Bootcamp in a VM so I don't have to reboot, but I am not holding my breath

Safari upgrades to bring it in line with Chrome/Firefox

Ability to sign into 2 iCloud accounts (work/personal)

My biggest hopes are:

  1. Stickies application iCloud sync so my stickies appear on all my Macs!!!
  2. Compatibility with all existing Catalina-compatible machines thanks to non-Metal GPUs already being dropped awhile ago.
  3. System Information Icon Update to Be Flat (IDK why this icon from like 2005 bugs me... but consistency is key.)
  4. iMessage App Store functionality (Need to send GIFs on all platforms from right within the messages app!)
  5. Vulkan support for cross-platform gaming
  6. Better Stock Widgets for Notification Center
  7. Better on-screen keyboard support for 3rd-party touchscreens
  8. Tabbed Popped-out emails in the stock Mail app
  9. Better support for USB / Bluetooth phone accessories for making calls via your iPhone's number.
  10. Allow eGPUs to work on 2015-2017 12" MacBooks, though just display a warning that performance may be limited. (Thought is that an eGPU with a a budget RX 550 would still provide WAY better performance through USB-C than the stock iGPU.) It is completely fine if this only allows display output via external display, instead of accelerating internal display.

Configurable keyboard shortcuts to launch programs. Frankly, it's pretty ridiculous that macOS still doesn't have this.

  • iCloud Drive to add selective sync to root folders, as with Desktop and Documents.
  • Add more permission settings to iCloud Drive folder/doc sharing.
  • Stickies app iCloud sync.
  • Health app from iOS.
  • Catalyst Messages app from iOS.
  • Apple TV apps compatible with Apple TV, in the Apple TV... app lol (I.e Disney+, iPlayer)
  • Boot chime toggle in Sys. Pref.
  • Screen brightness, Night Shift , Dark/Light mode toggles in Menu Bar.
  • As per usual, improve Pages/Numbers/Keynote compatibility with Office exports.
  • Improve the overall stability; this OS has by far been the buggiest version I’ve used in 15 years of Mac ownership.
  • Make it quicker to switch between VMs in Boot Camp.
  • Make it quicker/easier to adjust external display(s) brightness.
  • Bring back some of the iTunes features that, you know, were removed from Music?? Purely basic things like being able to drag a track from one area to another somewhere, but not elsewhere... and the lack of ability to right-click in certain areas?
  • Music hand-off.

  • File transfer window to show transfer speed, perhaps a expanded section showing transfer history. Like Windows 10.
  • Activity Monitor upgrades, to show activity on each core, simple chart.
  • Calendar poppout when clicking time/date in menu bar, like Itsycal.
  • Consistency in app "closing" when pressing red X. Some apps minimise, some quit...
  • Option to have extra maximise button, or flip default action of green button.
  • Right click option of closed apps in dock to have same items as when open. So I can go straight to an incog window from closed browser for example.
  • DisplayPort daisychain.
  • Window snapping.
  • Apple Watch Lock. It unlocks when near, so why not lock when you move away?
  • Consistent default monitor when opening apps. I have my menu bar on my middle screen, but when I compose a new mail it opens its window on the left monitor. Some apps open on the right monitor. Really annoying!
  • Use iPhone front facing camera as webcam for macOS. Native, so third party software is not required. Theres a worldwide shortage of webcams atm to this would be ideal now really!
  • TouchID in more places. Some dialogues still ask for password instead of fingerprint.
  • Ability to lock apps with fingerprint, i.e messages and mail.

* Better Apple TV(+) App
* Refreshed, more constant interface (Music/Podcasts look so different from other apps)
* More consistant icons (some icons are slightly tilted like stocks and mail, while others are straight like Finder and settings)
* Faster iCloud tabs sync.
* Use Apple Pay on Macs without a touchID sensor, like approving a payment with your iPhone.

And I'm gonna steal 2 from @FoxMcCloud because i completely agree with him:

* Consistency in app "closing" when pressing red X. Some apps minimise, some quit...
* Apple Watch Lock. It unlocks when near, so why not lock when you move away?

The EverythingApplePro guy said in his latest video that MacOS 10.16 might be named "Redwood".

I hope they follow through on their plan to remove scripting language executables that ship in the OS, particularly Python 2.

Leave devtools to package managers that aren't entwined with the OS.

I would do a full reset back to 10.6.8 and dump all the bloat. Bring back Forstall to restore OS X to its former glory. It’s pathetic when the latest release is compared to Win10.

Yeah. Speaking of 'bloat', can't wait for that cow hide again.
