On my mind is that it’s -21 degrees outside. I am going to have to head out in it, unfortunately, albeit just for a few minutes. Thankfully I have lots of warm clothes.

I sympathise.

Personally, I detest winter, the cold, the dark, the sheer dreary depressing endurance test of the season.

Lowest we have had is around -6, and only overnight. Otherwise it's been pretty mild, so far. -21 would have me staying in as much as possible with the fire lit as much as I could.

Numpty, that's me...

I recently had an issue with my MBP M3 Pro, where I saw what looked like a tiny ant moving across the screen, and at first, I scrolled my browser, to discover it was an actual ant, and then I flicked at it, but instead of it being on the outside of the screen, I discovered it was behind the glass, and flicking at it, killed it, leaving a black mark. I waited a few days, tapped at the screen, and nothing. I took it to Apple to get them to have a look at it, and they were perplexed, as the display is a sealed unit. They took my MBP away for a few minutes, and came back and said the insides looked clean, no infestations, and they decided they would replace the screen for me, for free. As Sydney is the place where they do the larger repairs, it was sent off, and I was told 10 days until I get it back.
Now I've just had major surgery to my Aorta, so I'm pretty homebound in the main, (it's late 30c here most of this month) so I wondered how I'd survive without my laptop (no tv) thought about getting a cheap tv, but was lured into buying a Lenovo IdeaPad for AUD$650. Now to be fair to it, when browsing, playing a few game, it's fast enough, but it took 4 hours from turning it on, to being able to use it, and asked at every step, for me to log into somewhere. The trackpad is clunky, and slow, the OS, a couple **** fight.
Through some command prompt work, that a little bird taught me, I upgraded from 11 home to 11 Pro (no purchase made). To all out there, who are moaning about Liquid Glass, 5 mins using Windows 11, will quieten you. And don't get me started on display resolutions and browser readability...

Agreed. And although it’s very wet up here, it’s been quite mild so far this year.
Maybe it is increasing age, but, these days, I feel the cold, irrespective of just how "mild" the winter supposedly is, or whatever temperature the thermometer tells us that we are currently experiencing.

Granted, I have always felt the cold - even as a reasonably fit teenager (while I didn't "exercise", or play any sort of structured games, I walked and cycled everywhere); however, nowadays, I really feel the cold in winter, and I am layered in the best of organic and warm woollens.

Same here. Probably as a teen I was significantly larger, so that kept me warmer. But I dress in similar layers to Mrs AFB these days, but not when we first met. I’d be in shorts and a t-shirt and she would be in jeans and a coat.

Had a good chat with Decent Brother over the week-end.

Winter and work are endless.

The temperature would want to be approaching low to mid twenties (Celsius) before I'd appear in shorts and t-shirt; even as a child, (when shorts in summer were the norm) on cooler days, we'd be attired in jumpers (rather than t-shirts) and shorts.

Nowadays, (organic silk) thermals have been added to the jeans and layers of wool.

I like having four distinct seasons.

If having a cold winter is a pre-requisite to having a lovely spring, I'm OK with it.

Plus, there's something really pleasant in being out in the cold and that warm, tingly feeling one gets when coming indoors to somewhere warm(er).

Plus, I like to occasionally go cross-country skiing (the one where you kind of walk with skis on, in tracks) which is difficult to do when it's hot 😁

We have four distinct seasons where I live.

Right now we're in the Rainy season which follows Fire season. Pollen Allergy season follows Rainy, and then the Dry season appears (locals sometimes refer to the Dry season as Beach season).....and then Dry season turns into Fire season again as the cycle repeats.

We have three ‘wet’ seasons. Then we have a drought season.

Winters are definitely milder than they used to be. But definitely wetter.

Summers are longer as well and seem to start earlier.

Agree with this. Having seasons is the natural process of the planet we live on. I enjoy the winter as it's such a welcoming contrast to the heat of the summer. With climate change, many places are losing their natural environments. Melting glaciers, shrinking Arctic, more hurricanes and tornadoes, etc. In Europe, countries are seeing extreme summer temperatures never imagined before.

Winter walks in cold weather is refreshing and invigorating to me. The air feels crisp, pure and clean, followed by a welcoming warm drink at home. I couldn't live in a year-round tropical climate.

:) Lucky you!

It is quite difficult to tell how the seasons are like in the interior of Alaska because they can be unpredictable. I remember several years ago we had a relatively mild spring with some rain and clear days in between, then a beautiful warm summer that stretched past September and even reached October. There wasn't a fire season this year. But I haven't experienced this kind of summer for a great number of years already.

All I can say is that most times there are two seasons in the interior of Alaska, "winter and summer." The Spring could be dry or wet and cold, the wildfire season can start early in the summer (by the end of April to May), or just if Mother Nature decides to play with thunder and lightning.

Most of the Rain can happen around August, but it could also stretch through September. If it does, the snow starts falling in September. The worst pollen season starts around the end of March and continues through summer (willow, birch, spruce), and then through August-September with the fireweed pollen. At least honey bees produce a light deliciously and golden-color honey from the fireweed flowers. I have a friend who sells this type of honey at a price of $55.00 per a quart-size jar; but mine is free, of course :)
