Although I respect this point of view, I think an informed voter needs to know what's going on domestically and around the world. There are many sources of news, and by reading a variety one can get a pretty good idea of what's going on and form an opinion.

Just to add, there has been some news in the last few days that got to me and not in a good way.
That is true to a point, but like it or not the news is presented to a targeted audience. What "feels like the truth or not the truth" to a person or a group of people is not necessarily the same to another person or group. I can twist and present the news that I want you to listen to, all based on what I already know about you. The news media (s) are nothing but influencers trying to persuade you into believing the news is completely the truth as it's being told to you. By achieving such, the news conglomerate stays in business.

If you listen to the same news presented to you by another TV or radio station that you, for any reason dislikes, then this news is perceived by you as not being truthful or at least incorrect.

I just let my wife keep me informed since we have similar interests about all issues, and specially because she has a knack for "reading between the lines," something that I find extremely tedious.

I never watch the news. I just read it. That way you can just read the articles of interest to you.
But yes fact checking what you hear or read is important. More so than ever. So many lies are said and reported on that are not true at all. But some people swallow it hook, line and sinker.

I do read the news sometimes and even print it for my wife to read, although she takes it apart and makes her own conclusions. Much easier for me having her reading and telling me about it. She even reads every single line in the so common credit card, and life insurance offers, and then tells me the details before running them through the shedder :)

I agree 100% with you about the rest. It's nothing but amazing how so many people believe everything they read and see. The saying that, "there is not such thing as a free lunch" may be the truth.

My Dad is unfortunately one of them. But his choice of source for the news is well known to be BS.

Sometimes I think the news is reported with such bias (either way), because the companies know people will engage.

That’s not true!
Yes it is!

So they get what they want out of it. More engagement (reposting and hits to their site) as people rush in to say it’s wrong or support it.

Such a polarised world these days. Not everything is black and white. Some things are grey.

Here it’s 6am on a Saturday morning. No idea why I’m awake so early. Been awake a while. I miss being young and the ability to sleep in at the weekends!

Numpty, that's me...

I recently had an issue with my MBP M3 Pro, where I saw what looked like a tiny ant moving across the screen, and at first, I scrolled my browser, to discover it was an actual ant, and then I flicked at it, but instead of it being on the outside of the screen, I discovered it was behind the glass, and flicking at it, killed it, leaving a black mark. I waited a few days, tapped at the screen, and nothing. I took it to Apple to get them to have a look at it, and they were perplexed, as the display is a sealed unit. They took my MBP away for a few minutes, and came back and said the insides looked clean, no infestations, and they decided they would replace the screen for me, for free. As Sydney is the place where they do the larger repairs, it was sent off, and I was told 10 days until I get it back.
Now I've just had major surgery to my Aorta, so I'm pretty homebound in the main, (it's late 30c here most of this month) so I wondered how I'd survive without my laptop (no tv) thought about getting a cheap tv, but was lured into buying a Lenovo IdeaPad for AUD$650. Now to be fair to it, when browsing, playing a few game, it's fast enough, but it took 4 hours from turning it on, to being able to use it, and asked at every step, for me to log into somewhere. The trackpad is clunky, and slow, the OS, a couple **** fight.
Through some command prompt work, that a little bird taught me, I upgraded from 11 home to 11 Pro (no purchase made). To all out there, who are moaning about Liquid Glass, 5 mins using Windows 11, will quieten you. And don't get me started on display resolutions and browser readability...

Thought I was stuck with this Laptop purchase, and that decision was confirmed, when no hits on MarketPlace or Gumtree. I was thinking of donating it to an educational facility, and was watching a YT video, where I noted lots of people, working with MBP's hooked up to monitors, and it piqued my interest. Seemingly all of them were LG's. Now back around Covid times, I had a LG Ultrafine, and loved it, but I moved around a bit just after that (family illnesses, UK, Australia etc) and sold it. Had a look at the place I bought the laptop from, and saw they had an LG at the same price as the Laptop. Long story cut short(er), I managed to get a store credit applied, and now have another LG Ultrafine, and thanks to a little app called 'monitorcontrol', it works as well as the original 'made for Mac' LG Ultrafine from before.
It also fits the Monitor case I had bought, and kept for transporting items that needed, tender loving care.

On my mind is the usual array of things.
Work even though it’s the weekend.
Car shopping for Mrs AFB as we are looking at a car in the morning.
Good luck.
And some comments in the news by someone that I shall not go into but have made my blood boil. I really need to stop reading the news for the next few years.
Yes, my blood was simmering also, while my temper was seething, if these were the comments I think they were.
Although I respect this point of view, I think an informed voter needs to know what's going on domestically and around the world.
Agreed.

Likewise.

Too true, alas.

Agreed: Many things are grey, in fact, they are very, very, grey.

Well, I am no longer in the first flush of youth (nor the second, nor third flush, for that matter), yet, I have the gift of sleep, and still seem to retain the ability to sleep in at week-ends.

However, today, as it happens, was not one of them, as this morning, I met an old friend for coffee in town.

Wince.

The very best of luck.

Ah, excellent.

Takeaway sounds an excellent idea in the circumstances.

Indian, Chinese, Thai, - perhaps a pizza - or something traditional and classic, along the lines of fish'n'chips?
So power was out for less than a quarter of an hour.

Regarding takeaway there is a Chinese restaurant just about close enough to collect (but they don’t deliver).
No Indian or Thai in this house. I like them both, but Mrs AFB can’t eat them. Truth be told all takeaway is bad with her food issues.

The fish and chip van stopped coming to the next village along. There is one just about drivable but again that would be a bad idea for Mrs AFB.

Ah.

So, perhaps a Chinese, then, or is that no longer under consideration now that power has been restored?

Commiserations.

Enjoy your tea (a very prudent, even sensible, use of time, might I add).

Perhaps consider a Chinese for later?

Is there any chance of a Japanese - personally, I am rather partial to chicken ramen noodles.
None within range I’m afraid. As the power is off again it is the current topic of discussion.
Putting food in the oven if the power is on and off isn’t a good idea either. Neither is opening the freezer.

Interesting and fascinating and frightening and shocking video with Ai being asked some concerning questions with more concerning replies:

Never heard of the channel before, it was in my suggestions.

I had an old 11 speed E-tap bicycle rear derailleur self-destruct itself.

I was attempting to take it off in order to diagnose a creaking noise (sigh) and then the whole bit that mounts to the bike with the threaded section came apart. Argh!!! 😣

Fortunately I had another replacement derailleur (with a short cage) and another new chain (that needed changing anyway) but this was unexpected late at night and of course I ended up with lovely blackened hands which is typical when touching anything like that.

Grrr. Today I have to see if I can work out if the other derailleur can be fixed.
