AC on the train!

Happy bunny.
Can't you just get the boss to buy one of the portable units? You can get them for £300 ish. As mentioned I hardly use mine but oh my goodness on the odd day when I do need it, it becomes essential otherwise I'd just grind to a halt. If they're worrying about the electricity bill you'd probably only use it for a week or two tops each year and compared to being unproductive on those days that's nothing...

I've got to go in to London later today too, I'm not looking forward to it. Trains are normally pretty good with a/c also if it's a Premier inn sort of hotel it's bound to have aircon isn't it?
Holiday Inn for me. Got to collect my points!

A portable AC unit in a 30 desk open plan office with a wall of glass is probably not ideal.

We bought desk fans last year and they have all disappeared. Can’t think where!

Ah, ok. If it's a 30 odd desk unit it's unusual these days for there not to be some sort provision but it is what it is I guess...

Very sticky, steamy, heavy, humid and (possibly) thundery weather today.

Some brief - almost fleeting - barely meriting the name of - thunderstorms last night, following a sweltering day of sticky heat.

We're expecting rain here in Central Florida this week but I have yet to see any. It's made some thunderous noise, but nothing came from it. I welcome the rain, even if it does make it seem more humid later. The poor plants and animals could use a drink!

I'm in the A/C, but getting worried about the fires. We're bone-dry, already have the biggest wildfire season in Utah history, and up to 50-mph winds; I live on the edge of a bench and it's just acres and acres of tall, bone-dry grass on the hill right below me (this wasn't a concern when I moved in 31 years ago). Governor did grow a spine and banned fireworks sales/use for the Fourth, not sure what he'll do for the 24th (mormon holiday with even more fireworks).

One rancher south of me saved his home but lost all his outbuildings; the news showed this picture:

A shoe.jpeg

... which was horrible until they said it was a storage shed; no horses were killed. 🤨 (that looks like a coat hook)

And... with an incoming cold front they're predicting snow in the High Uintas Saturday night, and into the 30's in Park City! 🤪

I'm so grateful the poor horses survived, but I'm sorry for the dangers and loss due to the fires. Living in an extremely hot, tropical environment surrounded by tall dying trees and grass is a recipe for disaster too. We haven't banned fireworks or anything, but where I live, most people prefer to shoot things instead anyway (NOT people).

Warm, sticky, and humid here, with thunderstorms threatening; even the occasional very brief, almost fleeting, - you couldn't call it a shower, more a brief sprinkling of misty liquid dispensed from the sky - fails to bring much by way of relief.

Actually, I can hardly believe that I am writing this, as I love heat and warmth, and detest the depressing dreariness of endless grey skies and sodden rain showers.

Anyway, was reading books (things written on paper between covers), the FT, the Guardian, last night and earlier this morning.

A (late), though rapid, trot through the farmers' market yielded organic, free range, eggs, several heads of new season's garlic, rocket, several varieties of cherry tomatoes, French onions, dill, basil, coriander, and some glorious seasonal fruit rendered terrifically tasty by the warm weather (apricots, peaches, nectarines, cherries, strawberries among others).

It’s cooled here. Currently on the train home. Got away early so will be home with plenty of time to spare before the football.

I took apart my lawn mower deck today. Turns out one of the blades had came out of its position and it made this loud metal grinding noise. It wasn't particularly hard to fix but it wasn't fun to do so.

Cooled quite a bit, here, too.

Am now back to wearing a lightweight woollen summer jumper (sweater, pullover) - or a light wool jacket, in the evenings over a t-shirt.

Our turn for the heat .... NWS is predicting 90's +from Wednesday to Sunday , with 102 on Thursday and Friday . Summer in the NYC area . Oh well , something to look forward to for the next few months .

still having what's called "June Gloom" weather here in Los Angeles; cloudy and cool (68F/20C) in the morning with the sun appearing in the afternoon.....but our usual hot Summer weather tends to start at the beginning of July, so I'm expecting "too hot" soon

So the temperature has gone down to around 21/23C in the afternoon. Much better than before, nights are around 18C.
Office is still warm. As soon as I arrive at the Office (around 7:30AM), time to open the windows and let them open for about a hour. Can't let them open for much longer because of the morning sun, but as soon as the sun is off the windows, open they go 🙂

Weather forcast in the Netherlands told us after the 2nd week of July, temperatures are raising again. I don't know how far they raise, but I don't really care because I'll go for a holiday.

The very best of luck enduring (and surviving) it.
Thanks . It's not uncommon to have several stretches of high 90/low 100 degree stretches in the average summer around where I live (NYC Metro.) A/C is pretty universal re: housing/cars/shopping/gov't buildings (save older schools which are closed anyway) . Most towns have senior centers and libraries for those unfortunate enough to not have A/C
at home . The big concerns are for those who are homeless (not too many around me) or who fail to keep hydrated when outside .

96 degrees and counting where I live. Sweltering! Staying indoors as much as possible. At least there's plenty of nice things to do inside to keep me occupied until later tonight... Oh, wait. It's going to be 10 million degrees then, too.

I know I complain a lot but I still think about the poor victims of earthquakes and those living without AC. Especially the homeless. Sometimes you have to count your blessings and not take everything for granted!

92F and muggy here today with dew point in upper 70's. Decided a great day for the local pool. Dove in and was immediately hit with a shock of ice cold (feeling) water, but after about 10 min of swimming felt pretty good.

I can't wait to get my pool pass this year. There's a warm, heated pool that most people use, and then there's a deep, freezing pool that I use. It's a shock to get in and out, but it's usually empty and I can do my exercises in peace. Plus I like to practice my dives. If it ever gets too cold there's a hot tub nearby!
