Looking through old design work. I'm not as bad as I remember being.

In a coffee shop.
Child monsters will be calling around tonight; the carer anticipated this well over a week ago by buying ample supplies of sweets (candies) - already to hand - for those who come calling.

I’m ready for the little bastards.

We barely get any. I still buy a large bag or two every year. Any extra gets dumped at one or both my company locations in the kitchen for staff.

Not bad. Can't get the fuss about the price. How many buy kitted out Macs? It's reasonably affordable with a smart options list. I'll look into it down the line. Mac Pro is still on my mind though.

Yeah, out of the price complaints from yesterday, the mini seemed very reasonable. I bought a G4 mini at launch and I think it was about $800-something when you added Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and SuperDrive (I did the RAM upgrade myself), and my current one was about the same price (the better i5 and SSD). For what you get with it, it's pretty fair and the $500 model was just a nice price point, but led to a very unsatisfying experience.

Vaguely remember that gen but didn't think it was worth buying at all. If I were to preorder a mini now, I'd likely opt for 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD. My use for a Mac is very limited in scope and I can always hookup up an external drive. People balk at the NVME SSD price but it's still expensive on the PC side, too, unless you opt for terrible TLC NAND from a nameless company. My argument goes out the door if it's TLC they use, but quality TLC still costs a pretty penny. And NVME is still fairly new. M.2 prices only began falling a few short years ago.

Would be nice if you could keep those ports while running an NVME drive. Not sure if a processor or mobo is capable of doing that, though.

Going back to my point, I'd love to meet the individual(s) who just know they'll use up 2 TB of SSD space without storing junk or things that can be streamed and use up 64 GB of RAM efficiently.

Photographers and videographers easily eat up 2TB. In fact my 1TB iMac is nearly full.
Yes I know you can go external for a fraction of the price, but I use my external as a back up for my internal. I don’t really want two externals connected all the time.
Will wait for some reviews before purchasing though.

Wiser to use attached storage in that case. Besides, using your boot drive as your scratch is plain old stupid.

How Halloween used to be fun.

It still is.

I enjoyed it this year; the kids that called to the door had some terrific costumes, were polite, and were entertaining. There was nothing nasty or mean-spirited about it, just perpetuating an ancient and venerable tradition.

Moreover, I also enjoyed that the carer had relieved me of the responsibility to have to even think about Hallowe'en in advance, when she requested money around a fortnight ago (forward planning - I'm impressed) to buy sweets for kids that turned up on our doorstep.

PSA!

When a python eats large pray like an antelope or zebra it lies still for hours and hours as it digests.

If another critter approaches during that time it will regurgitate the zebra and slither away.

Therefore, be careful. Don’t let anyone startle you.

I've already had my post prandial nap - thus, no need for regurgitation - and am now contemplating a beer.

Alas, I want to regurgitate my dinner. The worst dinner we’ve had delivered from this restaurant. Maybe those kids who tried (and epically failed) to freak me out while I was walking home last night can try again now so I can throw up on them. :p

Sigh. I hope there is pizza in my very near future.

Also, I thought $799 was an obnoxious price hike for 11” iPP, but $1549 for the 1TB version? Yowza.

I bet it’s more expensive in the UK!

Glad it’s Friday. Lots to do, but managed to get some stuff done last night, so at least I don’t feel quite so behind at work.

Knocked my tea over as I was making it this morning. Terrible start to the day.
Wasted tea is a crime!

Knocked tea, or spilt tea? Either way, a crime but not (yet) a disaster.

The mining company I work for hired a new general manager, and today is his second day on the job. We're also hiring several new staff members.

These changes come after a year of having only the bare-bones staff level, where everyone is doing multiple jobs. There's no bench, as everyone's on the field/court. Consequently, we've become a tight-knit group, where everyone does the job at hand without much oversight. We tend to consult with management as needed, and rarely have to be told what to do or how to do it.

The GM seems like a nice enough guy, but there is a definite need for things to tighten up here. He has depth and breadth of experience in the mining industry, which is good. We'll be seeing shortly what changes he will effect. The old GM, who will be moving into another position, is a great guy, but ultimately not cut out for the role as it evolved. He moved the organization in a good direction, but it's time to hand the reigns over.

I'm not all that far from retirement, but am not at all interested in simply coasting 'til the finish. I enjoy my work very much, and am excited when I get to learn something new or upgrade my existing skills. I also have quite a bit of autonomy in my job, and don't have to manage anyone else.

So I'm cautiously optimistic about the new GM, as well as about the new paralegal being brought to share between my department and legal. Those two folks could actually make my life easier, in the sense that the company's direction should be clearer, and I'll have someone to collaborate with. No doubt it will take some significant adjustment on my part, but I'm actually looking forward to the process.

Take away those spiders and things and you're good to go for Christmas. Just need some green stuff. As in decor, not the green green green stuff.

My commiserations.

I do hope that there very good pizza makes an appearance in your very near future.

The thing about pizza is that most people (and restaurants) think they can produce this dish easily, but - actually, they can't.

These days, I rarely eat pizza when dining out; it is a fantastic dish, but most of what is available is mediocre at best and sometimes, downright awful, at worst.

We have green stuff ... and green green green stuff. Though is more yellow-ish, with maybe a little grape ... :D
