Good luck on this , truly.

I despise the various tier system for health care in the USA.

If you’ve got this type insurance the initial billing is X, then insurance negotiates their pay price as Y. Then you look at your insurance benefits to see your part of cost etc.

If your non insured theirs a diff billing amount A, which seems weird for exact same procedure the fixed costs that are amortized into it ( building infrastructure , equipment, overhead of support staff) and the variable costs (pre work, surgery time, materials used, support X-rays / other) would be exactly same.

Why is it so broken??
When I was working for a small, teaching hospital outside Philadelphia, PA, U S Healthcare insurance company came to us and said we'll pay $xx,xxx per month for unlimited radiology. If you don't like it, you won't have any of our business. The number was very low but I don't remember since that was probably 1994.

Back in December, I went to the county hospital because I was having a lot of trouble breathing. Their Emergency Department has a Trauma Center, so they also have another sub-department for non-life-threatening problems.

They were relatively attentive, even though they get a lot of hard-luck cases, and we full of caring individuals working for a patient's health.

I worked in healthcare for seven years. It's rare to see any healthcare facility care unless they see that you have plenty of money or insurance available.

All I can comment - at the risk of introducing even a note that may touch on the toenails of a political reference - is to reiterate how much I love the NHS and other state funded public healthcare systems.

I will enroll in a professional English course on Monday. If I get a Green Card after 3 years, I will leave my homeland. I hope I go to a good university.
I hope for the best for you, but just realize that not everything works out so well.

Even people who have lived here all of their lives don't have great experiences. You will likely struggle, so you must be amazing, every day.

My neck and right arm have been playing up for days.
Just like a dead arm for a lot of the time. Neck stretches help a bit.
My sympathies.

Any chance of a massage?

Or, something similar?

You used to be able to see someone who did something about your neck; (just as I used to be able to see someone who was brilliant at massage).

My chiropractor? That’s a good few weeks away I’m afraid.
TBH Mrs AFB is suffering worse than I am with lower back pain. Been bad for a week.

Again, my sympathies.

Lower back pain is grim.

In any case, I have always found that the application of (restorative) heat (such as a hot water bottle, or electric blanket) or a (wonderful) massage may (temporarily) alleviate it, or ameliorate it.

I'm trying. If I didn't have a dream of living abroad, I wouldn't be hanging out in this forum. I used to hang out in local Turkish forums. I can improve my English here, even just a little.

She’s been using a heat pad quite a bit this week. She has a hot water bottle every night.
She would never be a massage person though. Just not her thing.

Ah, good.

But, the application of heat must ease the pain - I know that it does mine.

Wonderfully, in fact, even if the relief is only temporary.

Fair enough.

Personally, I cannot recommend them highly enough, but, obviously, they are not for everyone.

I wish some of the native English speakers would improve their English, even though it is their only language.

Good luck with this.

In addition to taking English classes, and joining this forum, I would suggest that you read as widely as possible in English, by that, I mean read anything and everything, serious literature (the English language equivalent of Orhan Pamuk, some of whose works I have read), to popular novels, or publications, or periodicals.

As you said, I will read a lot of English books. My main goal is to improve my English to C1 or C2 level in these 3 years and apply for the SAT exam immediately. SAT math is easy, which I was taught about square roots when I was 12. That's why I won't have any trouble with math since we see it in middle school, which is what Americans see in high school. I will prepare with some light math work. English will be the difficult part for me, but even though it is difficult, it will be fun.

I’m turning 62 later this year, retirement on the horizon, 2 kids in college, 3rd is HS senior joining USA Marines this August. Lost mom 3 years ago, oldest sister 2 1/2 years ago, dad 3 months ago.

At a crossroads of my life; looking in the rear view mirror where I came from, looking left and right where I’m at right now, and thru the windshield where I desire to go.

Just scribbled in a notebook some timelines trying to get my thoughts together. I’ll play with the timeline visual, make a few different versions possibly, and see how that helps tell a story.

My wife’s into the whole genealogy thing.

The below puts things in perspective; still every year more and more of my family, friends, and peers pass on.

Another interesting related chart (for living in the US). Basically retiring early is good for your lifespan. I suspect this specific chart is a bit out of date but the basic trend is still there

Well respectively I disagree with that chart at first glance.
Who’s the data from?
Sample size, statistical accuracy / validity, etc.
was it published & peer reviewed?

Do those who retire early live longer?

It's often said that early retirement lengthens your life, but is it true? And do some professions have a shorter life expectancy?

Relationship between life expectancy and retirement age (Age at Retirement Vs Life Span).

A study by Dr. Ephrem Cheng, a leading American scholar, on the relationship between life expectancy and retirement age (Age at Retirement Vs Life Span) The investigation report. The report netted several pension plans for U.S. supermajority groups, including Boeing, AT&T and Ford Motor Co., and found that the later the executive retires, the shorter his or her life! The statistics are as follows:

Retirement age, age of death

Almost all large organizations are in agreement, and full-time managers who retire at the age of sixty-five usually die within eighteen months! As a result, quite a number of pension reserves have not been claimed. Dr. Cheng then launched a comprehensive survey, and the above statistics concluded that the later you retire, the earlier you die.
Full-time managers face enormous pressure every day, constantly living in the emotional tension, but also need to cling to, so it is easy to push themselves to the edge of collapse. This mental and mental state seriously damages the organs and cells of the body, forming a long-term high-pressure state. Before you know it, your health will be cut short. Thus, at the age of sixty-five, when he retires, he is relieved of all his latent diseases, and within eighteen months he is gone.

The findings have shocked American executives, so they say life is good enough, and they retire at 50. These senior retirees are not totally out of work. They just re-plan their lives and lives, relax and only take part-time and interesting jobs and stop pursuing power and luxury.

According to the survey, the healthy decline of these 50-year-olds after they started their second spring has greatly improved. Many of them did not go to heaven until they were 85 years old. According to the survey, this group of 50-year-old retirees had their health plummeted.

Dr. Cheng pointed out that the sooner you leave the circle of power and money and get rid of the shackles of fame and luxury, the happier you will be and the longer you will be able to live a basic life. Working as a philanthropist, in particular, is more conscious of living meaningfully, and as a result, the immune system is strengthened and the lifeline is prolonged.

I won’t even begin to explain my thoughts on the issues with those statements.. there’s too many.

FWIW, I’m a fully certified Nissan v-up expert, equivalent to six sigma master black belt, since 2012.

There are zero comments to that article, and the accompanying link is a dead URL

So in the UK they have been talking of moving the retirement age to 71. Currently it’s 65-68 depending on your age now.
I think one of the reasons those that retire early live longer is they are probably more financially well off.
Poorer people don’t (generally) live as long as wealthy people.

The trouble with later retirement is that not everyone does a desk job. How are bricklayers or metal workers supposed to work even longer?
