There’s a certain user on here who posts very… distinct threads.

I’ve always sort of wanted to post my own thread in their style, but I don’t know if I could achieve their unique balance of puerile self-obsession and mundanity that flies under the mods’ radar.

Maybe I’m being too hard on myself. I infrequently update my avatar with a meticulously staged selfies! I post animations that do nothing to further conversation. I’d… probably like dating models! I’ve got this!

I know exactly who you're talking about.

Speaking of your animations. They always get likes. You have many likes.

Pics? Or would they violate forum rules?

Not that I have 5 kg of pastel M&Ms to dispose of, or even non-pastel M&Ms, but it never hurts to have esoteric knowledge when it comes to M&Ms. For example, if you freeze them, they make dandy slingshot ammo that shatters and leaves a mark when it hits a solid target, like brick walls. It also leaves a different mark when it hits less solid targets, like younger brothers.

They're the Easter colored ones. Also that should have been pounds, not kilos. Yeesh. I made a bulk purchase and couldn't figure out what we're going to do with the excess outside of baskets for the younger children in our extended families and others. I came across a cookie recipe and figured I'd use them in that for Easter. I'm not a fan of M&Ms myself. Though Mars does do a bittersweet peanut M&M that's nice. They and the regular M&Ms are a bit harder and have a nice snap compared to the original M&Ms.

I ordered from one of those bulk candy sites. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Costco or Sam's is selling the pastel colored M&Ms in 2-3 lb containers. Mars sells a 1 or 1.5 lb bag of them. I haven't been to Costco in over a month, so I can't tell you for sure.

Ironically, (you have referred to the use, or misuse of this expression earlier on this thread), with the possible exception of the aforementioned models, the vast majority of individuals who display that degree of puerile self-obsession on these threads (irrespective of actual age, I've met individuals - retired diplomats, retired army officers, who display a similar degree of self-obsession, self-regard, and utter self-absorption entirely oblivious to the existence and needs of the rest of there world) tend to be male.

However, agreed, that particular poster is in an unique category all of his own.

Lolol! A friend and his brother used to have shirtless water fights when their mom was gone. They’d put a pot of water on the stove to boil then chased each other around the house with turkey basters!

(That’s where I got the idea.)

Life and art.

While driving to work this morning, I admired the sunrise. Not just admired, but was moved by it.

In awe, actually.

I slowed almost to a stop at several points, just to look at it. Fortunately there was not a single other vehicle on my route through the countryside, so doing so was not a problem.

Not to be overly dramatic, but had that feeling been just a bit more intense, I could easily have wept.

A thread started a couple of days ago got me thinking about art, and realized that this morning’s sunrise had much the same effect on me as does a particularly fine piece of art. Visceral.

There’s certainly no way, given my skill and equipment, that I could have effectively captured that sunrise in a photograph. Honestly, I’m hard-pressed to imagine anyone truly doing so. So I chose not to try.

Which led me to ponder the question of whether or not this sunrise was, itself, art. And if so, who or what is the artist?

I am not religious by any definition of the term. My undergraduate degree is in Biology and Chemistry, and I tend to look at things through that lens. However, I have yet to hear a reasonable answer to how this all started.

I find it interesting that so much of our physical world inspires us humans to create art, mainly to capture what is arguably inherent beauty. Why is that so? What purpose, in the grand scheme of things, does that inherent beauty serve? And is it, in itself, art?

Anyway, that’s what’s on my mind this morning.

I've given up on trying to catch moments like that on camera. To me it takes away from the actual experience. I don't think it's art however, as art is something that is communicated. Your description could be considered art I think :)

However the question remains: how do I date hot models?????:eek: :p

The answer has been obvious for millennia; you buy them in such a way as to try to make the trade appear slightly less transactional than it actually is, and you do not ever howl, koan, whimper about love, (lack of) for this is all a contract, or trade - access to your body and reflected pride in your looks (from other males) in return for her access to my assets and wallet and status.

Acting ability (and mutual tolerance) may well determine whether the appearance of mutual affection/attraction/love is included in the deal.

I think it really depends on how hot you want them. The average human body temperature is 98.6ºF (37ºC), but some people run a bit warmer. When fighting off infections, the body's natural response is to heat up in attempt to kill pathogens.

Your best bet is to either get sick or befriend a sick person, and then try to get pathogens on as many things that come into contact with models.

Sneeze into hairspray, daub a used tissue in the blotting powder, roll around nude in piles of yet-to-be-worn clothes, etc.

I already do this (plus stuff with other people's food at restaurants), but it's not working!
Hmm, I don't know if you have regular places or you mix it up, but if the former is the case, it could be that locals have developed a resistance to your ailments. Maybe you should plan a lovely trip to a foreign country and try it there. :)

Models? I thought we already had some poster around here who had taken the slot reserved for an obsession related to dating models. Not that there couldn't be more than one, but I always figured that particular poster was a fair to middling bot rather than a regular forum member.

[ One of my favorite things about this thread is that it's almost impossible to go off topic unless one becomes all political, religious or social-issue minded]

What's on my mind is watching Dark Passage before the rental expires. So hard to make time for movies as true spring approaches... I wake up earlier and earlier with the light, and then can't stay awake into what had become my usual movie watching time over the winter.

Anyway I do generally like films with Lauren Bacall in the cast and this one's no exception so I am scheming to have an early supper and launch the film at 7pm sharp... so I don't "suddenly" find myself staring at the ceiling at 3am with a laptop that has slid onto the floor, the lamplights still on and betraying my presumed wakefulness to the neighborhood at such an ungodly hour.

About ungodly hours: around here if you're awake at 3am "it can't be for any good reason" -- or so I was told once after a guy who hauls milk for a living walked past my place one night on the way to where he parks his tanker, noticed my lights were still on, and commented on my hours the next time we were chatting at a village function. I laughed and copped to having fallen asleep over a movie... but I then asked him how he could account for being on the road every day at 3:30 (since I sometimes hear his truck if he swings back past his own place before making his rounds). He laughed too and opined that work at such an hour was entirely different, and that anyway it's not like he was actually awake at that hour.

Who knew? Primary color M&Ms for me. Something about that red dye #5. ;)

Trying not think about clogged sinuses, just want to get home.

Hope all goes well for you.
I wish you the same as, I said on the other thread.

Let's be optimistic today, the first full day of spring and bright and sunny here a bit chilly at 12 C (was 6 this morning) but tomorrow will go up to 18 and we can expect similar for the next week. Good thing I have my antihistamines ready.

Anyone see the supermoon last night btw? Really gorgeous.

How you could stop at five or six stores or just one.

How I feel like a deer in the headlights of love.

I'm a little scared of my upcoming hysterectomy. I just had a surgery last September. My biggest fear is incontinence. My surgery is on April 9th. I really hope it goes smoothly.

I hope the operation goes very well for you and that you heal easily and rapidly subsequently; as @Gutwrench has said, you've had a very rough year. The very best of luck to you.

Pretty soon I will have to take my boss’ place for a few months if not as a permanent position. Not really stressed about it but a bit preoccupied that I won’t be able to keep up with the requirements of the job and the quality required for the successful accomplishments of the various tasks. We shall see!

Good luck, and congratulations.

Is this in "an acting" capacity, or with a view to succeeding him permanently?

Officially in an acting capacity, but the truth is that should the need arise the big boss might just assign the permanent position to me, especially if he likes my temporary performance.

On the other hand, for me it’s the perfect opportunity to know if I want that job. It’s easy to aim at a promotion, but even if deserved it’s impossible to know if it’s the right fit for me or the department. No matter what, I’ll know if it’s something I want, and the department will know if I fit well with senior staff. Worst that can happen is that I am sent back doing what I am doing now (which I do like).

Sounds like a very balanced and sensible perspective. My guess is it will work out well for you, either way it goes.
