Freezing cold outside, and dark and rainy.
Yes, winter is rapidly approaching.

Mind you, I sympathise completely with you; I am looking out the window at a sky that is charcoal in colour, is overcast, and unpleasantly dark (the quality of available light is dismal during the winter months), while here - it was raining earlier, and feels cold.

Oh well, my home screen on my phone shows "mostly sunny" today no matter what app (default Apple or Meteo Swiss) I have on the home screen. We have low stratus which is next level up from fog. Hey it's sunny above the clouds right? Plus fog and stratus make it colder because of humidity.

Yeah, I've seen this "mostly sunny" stuff as well: ("Mostly sunny", but only when it is clear that this occurs above the low-lying stratus clouds, or the hybrid stratus clouds which we sometimes see here, where they combine with something equally unpleasant), what a deliberately misleading equivocation, one designed to soothe the reader into a somewhat more mellow, perhaps, optimistic mood, once winter strikes.

Indeed, we are somewhat lucky here in this part of Switzerland in that a short train ride up to the Jura mountains will get you above the clouds - and I have done it and can see on days like this much of the Geneva lake region covered in this soup. Those near or in the Alps are also lucky.

First day of my new job and I am in love which is strange,
Not strange at all.

This has happened to me on a number of occasions.

The problem is that this honeymoon - what @Apple fanboy has aptly described as the "honeymoon period" - period of unrestrained joy rarely lasts, or, if it does last, will not - and cannot - cover everything about the job.
because the first day is usually the day I'm asking myself "what did I get myself into?".
In my experience, it usually takes a few months for that question to be asked, and for that realisation to dawn.

Yeah fair enough, and I know it's coming a lot sooner than a few months. However, this position does meet all of the requirements I have set out for my own fulfillment. It pays well, I get to learn a lot about my field, it's fully remote, I have a seemingly great boss, and flex days! Yes, something will happen that will crush me, and probably very soon! But, until then, I am HAPPY!!! 🤣

Well then, all I can say is that I hope that you enjoy it while it lasts, and enjoy it while you can.

Chatted for around an hour by phone (having earlier received a lengthy text and at least two missed calls) from a very good friend in Helsinki, Finland.

The Current State of The World comprised much of our fascinating conversation.

Not only is it dark by 17.00 (five p.m.), but today - although completely dry, a very welcome feature of the day - was one of those overcast, dismal, dreary, light-deprived days that required cars to drive with their headlamps, or headlights, on during the day.

A rapid dash into the city - ostensibly to collect the organic milk that had been put aside for me - turned into a trip whereby bacon and sausages (bought from a proper pork butcher), some cheese, a Moleskine diary for 2025, and a Leuchtturm1917 notebook were all purchased.

As was some fresh French bread, from the French bakery.

Indeed. Longing for summer. But we aren’t really in proper winter yet.

At least it’s Friday though.

Yes, in the shower this morning - for some strange reason, - the thought of bacon, eggs and sausages crossed my mind.

In any case, I think that this week-end may well see the classic breakfast of bacon, eggs (fried, poached, or scrambled), sausages, and possibly tomatoes, feature on the menu. Perhaps on Sunday.

Sounds delicious. Simplicity is key.

On another note - Is anybody else annoyed at how the menu bar ignores dark/light mode depending on the wallpaper? For instance, if you're in dark mode, and your dock is dark, but your wallpaper is light, the menu bar will stay light? Drives me insane, though I suppose it could just be my very real and very crippling OCD.

Well, following this morning's musing in the shower, one of my purchases this afternoon - when I headed into the nearby city to collect the organic milk that had been put aside for me in the cheesemonger's - was to pay a visit to a proper, old-fashioned, specialist, pork butcher, where I bought some bacon and sausages.

So, simple but delicious; not a meal that I treat myself to all that often, but one that I do enjoy on occasion, and one that calls for the correct ingredients, in other words, proper butcher's sausages and bacon.

So apparently November the first is the day it’s okay to release Christmas adverts and films on TV. No doubt they will be playing Christmas songs on the radio next.
Usually the first time I hear a Christmas song is when I switch to iTunes until January in the car.

one of my nephews has been shopping for new Christmas decorations today......I've been getting texts with photos of new stuff all morning
