Don’t eat chocolate very often. But from memory not that much. I prefer Cadbury chocolate given the choice.

But I think I’ve maybe had chocolate once or twice this year.
Thanks! I wasn't expecting a lot. Cadbury has changed a bit and here, they have some Hershey's chocolate mix instead of Cadbury chocolate, unless I go to the Indian stores and the Fruit and Nut bars come from England, but the company is in Porttugal.

People from the UK, please tell me how you rate Marks & Spencer chocolates. They've been appearing locally at Target for a few years and I have resisted trying them, due to the price.

I'm not much of a sweets person normally, but on occasion, I've bought Ghiardelli or See's Candies chocolates.
Marks and Spencer’s food is generally really very good, but you do pay for the quality.

There’s been something of a debate here re Cadburys quality slipping since the infamous take over. To my mind (and YMMV) it doesn’t seem as good anymore.

*Laughs in Swiss* Actually I always liked Cadbury if we're talking big manufacturers.

Aw, that sucks--hope you get better!

And yes, that's something I've learned over the years... working with really good, competent people is unfortunately a luxury many people do not get, even the best, most experienced people in a field. Sadly, "choosing the good people and ditching the bad ones" only goes so far.
Thanks and I am already feeling better today. A friend brought me some cheese and sausage after a trip to Vienna so had that this morning with fresh local bread ("country" loaf)

My personal preference has always been dark chocolate - even as a child, I detested milk chocolate (in common with my father), and I always loathed Cadbury's Milk Chocolate.

Now, their - that is, Cadbury's - dark chocolate was always very good ("very good" that is, for chocolate from a major manufacturer).

However, as both you and as @scubachap have pointed out, - and I am in agreement with you - the quality (of Cadbury's) has deteriorated since the (most unfortunate and deeply regretted) takeover.

Not much of a chocolate fan myself, but I do like some dark chocolate in winter - November to February - on a miserable, dark, dreary afternoon, it can bring a little light into one's life, especially when served with a nice mug of good quality coffee.

Hershey's, no thank you.

When I was a kid, we also had not just Cadbury's, but Terry's of York (they produced some excellent chocolate, and their dark chocolates were very good indeed), Fry's (they made terrific dark chocolate), and Rowntree; actually, a surprising number of the historical (British) chocolate makers were Quakers, and had a history of treating their employees - by the standards of the time - ethically and very well.

Agreed.

I shop there for some products and concur completely re quality - and reliability.

Okay: No argument. I will readily concede that both Belgium and Switzerland are in a different league entirely as far as the production - and quality - of chocolate is concerned to anywhere else in the rest of the known world.

Bliss.

Sounds like my kind of treat; do enjoy.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I had any chocolate. Probably won’t until next year. I will probably have a hot chocolate at some point but that’s not really the same thing.

In winter, I will buy a few bars of dark chocolate - at the moment, I am actually out of the Lindt dark chocolate I had bought - and will have - or, treat myself to - a square, or two, whenever I have an afternoon coffee, (not, note, a morning coffee), on a dark, dreary, miserable day over the winter months.

That means that a bar of dark chocolate will easily last me for up to a fortnight.

In any case, I don't eat biscuits, (with the possible exception of shortbread, which I am rather partial to).

We don’t eat biscuits of chocolate here. Don’t really eat any treats at all as it goes.
My waist line is better off that way.

I used to love Perugina chocolates but it became almost nothing. I found some of their chocolates at a huge electronics retailer.

I recently got some Meiji chocolate from a Korean supermarket chain because I love Meiji chocolate and ice cream, and it's impossible to find normally.

Aldi at Christmas had a load of inexpensive German goodies, including chocolate and Christmas Stollen, somewhere far away.

I had the strangest experience last evening.

I was looking at NHK (Japanese broadcasting) World's Instagram account. They had some Japanese lesson and I couldn't remember the word for "rice cooker". I wrote that as a comment. I got a reply from someone I thought worked for NHK, asking in which prefecture (province, state) I lived. Later, I looked closely, and it was someone pretending to be the new Prime Minister.

Nice! Reckon I won’t buy a car for another two years, probably. No need for one at the moment. I can borrow a parent’s car the few times I do.
Yeah if you have reliable access then there's no need. Im getting a civic so I can drive it into the ground. Ideally it will last me 15-20 years. Fingers crossed, my old civic was an 03 and it did so well up until it was vandalized by a homeless person.

Have just received both COVID and flu shots. Hope I don't feel too awful tomorrow, because I have a doctor's appointment. If so I'll tough it out. Thankfully no performance like was the case last year.

All I want is a simple alarm clock.

One with a big button on top that stops the alarm till tomorrow.
I don't want snooze. It just means that I have to find and press another button.
I don't want a choice of noises. I just want one noise.
I don't want temperature, humidity, etc, etc, etc, I just want the time.

I am a simple man. All I want is a simple clock.

It used to be that I could go into a shop and buy a simple alarm clock, that told the time, had an alarm you could set, and a big button on the top that would turn it off till tomorrow.
You can't get them any more.

I have one which does what you want but it's old, and the glow in the dark hands and numbers are hard to see but the alarm works that way though I use my iPhone as well.

You could probably find one at a flea market or charity shop.

A couple months ago my current fairly simple Casio digital alarm clock became unsettable. I looked on Amazon for replacements, and ended up using the keywords travel alarm clock with moderate success. Without "travel", the scope of size and function was far too large.

I didn't end up replacing the one I have. I opened it up and cleaned the switch contacts. Put it back together and it's working.

Felt pretty awful earlier, so I didn't sleep all too well. I'd say I'm 80% better now. Definitely more than a litle nervous for this appointment though :(

I’ve never understood snooze on an alarm clock. As I get older I find my bladder works as the perfect device to make sure I never sleep in.
