Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I'm not sure I get it. A 5.0.x update is for bug fixes while a 5.x update is supposed to add features, right? I've been reviewing the 5.1 update notes and it looks like only bug fixes with the exception of new wallpapers.

Anyone else confused as to why they are calling it 5.1 instead of 5.0.2?

It might be the "big" fix of patching the exploits used by the latest untether.

Big JB begets big fix?

I hope they'll fix the slow syncing and the constant freezing of itunes when adding songs.

Not necessarily.
That's usually the way it goes... 4.1 was a big update last year with GameCenter, HDR, Ping, uploading videos to YouTube in HD quality. The betas for 5.1 aren't showing anything major other than being able to take pictures out of your Photo Stream on your device, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't be added somewhere down the line. And if the reports are right that 5.1 won't be released until the iPad 3 is announced then they have plenty of time to incorporate whatever they're planning into 5.1

And the disappearing iPhone after it's done syncing. For me it just suddenly vanishes from iTunes and then I get the error "iTunes could not find this iPhone.":confused::eek:

I can't believe people don't complain about this, it's a beta software type of error one of those that piss you fnk off.

There was a rumor not far back that siri would get some additional functionality in 5.1 like asking to turn on/off bluetooth or wifi.

I guess we haven't seen that in the betas of 5.1?

As some have mentioned, iOS 5.1 will include some additional Siri updates to allow more functionality across the device. It will also improve iCloud in a few ways, most notably allowing the deletion of photos from the PhotoStream on the device. Also some updates for users syncing with Microsoft Outlook to help improve battery life.

Oh and another wtf, I was updating a game. And I'm not really sure what happened, but the game didn't update properly and I lost my save data.

Now I have to start FF3 all over again. AND I was near the end.

I wish they had an app data restore functionality where you can restore it to the last backed up state for that specific app.

I've already submitted the feature request to Apple. Maybe... one day....

And this would be great if you want to uninstall an app for some reason but then reinstall it at a later date with all its previous data still there.

I suppose a dev could implement this with iCloud storage but it would be awesome if it were universal and automatically included with every app as part of iCloud backups.

I want iOS 5 to fix the low memory crashes and plug the memory leak. With iOS 4.3 when I first booted my iPod I had over 150 MB of free memory. With iOS 5.0.1 I only have about 30 MB free after a reboot. This is why Safari crashes and apps that use to never crash now crash.

I'd probably just wait for the 4S jailbreak... not updating to 5.1 it's not worth it, all I've seen are just random bugfixes, battery is still the same.

Siri upgrades and being able to individually delete photostream pics is enough for me,

There aren't any known Siri upgrades coming in 5.1.

So far the only new stuff in 5.1 is the photostream update, the battery fix, and other smaller bug fixes. There is always a possibility that new features will become known as we get closer to the 5.1 release

I read in some post in some blog in some site somewhere (redmond pie) that there is rumor going round that Apple might be introducing Siri functionality for the iPad 2 on 5.1, and would be announcing it in their Apple event scheduled for early February. Would be cool wouldn't it, haven't read any of this from beta testers, but a man can hope :D
