Then what is this that I am using right here, huh???View attachment 789236
lol My question wasn't clear. Yes it works just fine on Safari 12, as I'm also using it.

I was referencing your post. You said
I am personally using uBlock Origin. It works, not officially supported, but it works.

I know devs are already working on making their stuff compatible with Safari 12.

I've been looking to find if the developer is continuing development. It's been widely believed there is a high chance the fork is dead as there haven't been any updates.

So you heard he's working on it?

Yeah, that comment was directed more at extensions at general, than uBlock Origin specifically.

I haven't still heard anything about the uBlock Origin specifically, but I am not hopeless, not at all.

Can someone give me a quick explanation of what's changed in the way content blockers work on Safari? I'm on uBlock Origin, and Safari gives me a warning about how it may slow down my browsing. Which of the recommended options here does not have this problem?

I installed today Adblock plus from the Mac Store and indeed it slows down the browser.

I did use uBlock Origin till it was like extension. But now from Mac App Store it is with limited features. You can't manualy select what you want and don't want. So I switched to Adguard Premium. I purchased lifetime license for £3 long time ago.

That is not uBlock Origin in the App Store, that is uBlock. Two completely separate products.

If an ad blocker doesn't work for youtube ads forget about it. Right now I just switched over to Wipr from UBlock Origin. That does block youtube on the mac at least. On iOS I'm using AdGuard which sets up a private vpn. It blocks youtube ads if you play youtube through Safari.

Well since it is the same adblock from same developer, then it is developers fault.

I know devs are already working on making their stuff compatible with Safari 12. The thing is that it shouldn't have took them this long, Safari Technology Preview foretold this is gonna happen since quite some time now, but, well...I am the last one who can judge.

It is Apple that is to blame, eg. AdBlock's response to Safari 12: "Nearly two weeks ago, we submitted an update that removed that API specifically so our users would not be adversely affected. Apple wasn't able to approve the release in time to avoid the rude awakening that happened when Safari 12 started rolling out."

I'm going to add my $.02 to this thread. I just tried Wipr for the first time, after having issues with uBlock Origin and Ghostery. Wipr seems to be working really well, not overloading my CPU and manages to block ads in YouTube videos which I love.

That’s good but why would you taint Ublock origin with using ghostery? UBO does the same job as ghostery and isn’t tied to a marketing company that sells your browsing history. If you had a resource issue it was not UBO as it’s the lightest weight option.

Adguard just updated their Safari extension a few days ago for Safari 12. It's in the Mac App Store (free). So far, so good.

I'm using the free version of AdGuard (2.1.2 (101)) and it has been great so far. No ads, popups, or any other intrusion. Seamless browsing on Safari, too. I'm not sure what their paid plan offers, but I surmise the plan must be damn good because the free version is so effective.

Hope this helps.

The best ad-blocker for me is the pi-hole. I realize that this doesn't help much for someone looking for a software only solution (I have it installed on a raspberry pi).

I will only trust uBlock Origin, when it comes to security I only trust open source community driven services/apps.

In the same time its a bit rude to demand free app developers to release the apps or upgrades. I think we can hit a sweet point where if everyuser donates like just $1 they will easily make up $20m and can forever work on these products exclusively.

There are a lot of great free apps like HandBrake, Linux distros, LibreOffice...etc . If we can donate a little the app/service can be free for all. My best example of this is ProtonMail which due to donations+paid subscribers they offer FREE encrypted email hosting+VPN service.
I agree! I would gladly pay for uBlock Origin. I miss it now with the new version of Safari. I use Ghostery Lite now but its lacking comparatively. How did you still get uBlock Origin to work? Safari just tells me it’s no longer supported.

The one I use on Chrome is Stands which lets me also select specific items on a webpage I want to block (which is great).
