Whats the best way to destroy your motherboard or Macintosh HD?
I don't mean destroying it physically...

Er...okay, probally i give u guys the wrong idea...
Quote,
"How can you cause damage to your Macintosh HD (the best way) until it can't work anymore?"
I mean probally your HD won't write or read anymore...or your computer won't boot if u have a motherboard/logic board failure...
How can i cause damage to my logic board or motherboard?

Physically i mean is doing any damage to the thing physically as in scratching inside the HD and stuffs...

Do you mean like a power surge? But then you probably mean electronically.

Okay, so since DarkNetworks isn't a n00b troll, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But this is like pulling teeth. :D

Ahem.

Do you mean that you want to make sure a computer no longer has residual traces of your information, but you don't want to keep it anymore? If so, pulling the hard drive out and keeping it should be sufficient. Can't you find something else to do with the drive? Or else just throw it in a drawer in case you ever want it?

If not, you can take that hard drive and write random numbers over it repeated times (I believe either Disk Utility, if it's not the main system disk, or your system install discs will allow you to do this), or else, I suppose you can get a powerful magnet and run it around the disc, although the former way is probably more reliable than the latter.

But the rest of the computer doesn't hold anything with respect to your identity or information, except for the openfirmware password, if you've set it...which, even if you did, it is just the p/w itself, which is only valuable if you use the same p/w elsewhere, but no other information about you is stored anywhere on the computer except the HD. If you did set the OF p/w, just clear it. Not that it's tremendously likely that someone will find the computer, hack the OF, extract your OF password, and then use it to hack other systems that house your data. ;)

USB cable spliced to a power lead? If it doesn't kill you, or the Mac, it may at least let off a little smoke or pop some fuses.

LOL. I think I know what he's up to. He wants to destroy his current computer so his parents will buy him a new one. Is that right DarkNetworks? But, he doesn't want any physical damage done because then his parents will suspect that he destroyed it. Sneaky sneaky!! I don't know why you would ever want to ruin a Mac. no matter how old. DarkNetworks, maybe give us a little background on the situation and then we can help you. Because if we give you idea when we don't know what you will do with then, we may be contributing to an evil wrongdoing!!!!!

LOL. Sorry, I got carried away. But seriously, just give us some background on why you want to ruin your Mac and then we will help you.

Thanks,
Joe

Wouldn't only data on HD be damaged by that, you still could reinstall.

Take a cd rom, spray it with nacho cheese, wrap it in foil and microwave it for 2 minutes on high* (The sparks tell you it's working) Take it out, spread and cook for a futher minute. Place in computer and hold the c key when booting up. The cheese will download onto your hard drive and destroy the data (because it doesn't like nachos), then the logic board will fry.

*Based on a 950W microwave. Cooking times may vary.

fig tree
just start pulling random pins, capacitors, etc. off the motherboard. if the reason is so youre parents will buy a new one, they're probably not technically minded enough to notice missing motherboard parts.
alternatively you could follow how not to use thermal grease

Is it true that the "get a powerful magnet and run it around the disc" only destroys the data?
"Wouldn't only data on HD be damaged by that, you still could reinstall."
Is that the case?

I don't want just the data damaged or erased...i want the HD to be completely unusable or unaccessable...

EDIT: I'm not doing this b'cos i've done anything illegal to anyone or whatsoever.
EDIT: Although my nickname is "DarkNetworks", i don't do any "Dark" things...
