As long as the phone is on a decent monthly price (£30 approx) i’ll upgrade. My 8+ is a really good phone though so it’s going to be a couple of years yet at least before I consider another upgrade. Can’t see the point of upgrading for the sake of it when iPhones barely change.

I usually upgrade every 2 to 3 years and just do it. However, last year I had a horrible experience with the XS Max, going from a perfectly working 6S Plus to a Max and replacement Max, both with terrible reception.

So going forward I will not charge in on launch day but will wait until I read the forums. Then I’ll also think twice about getting rid of a perfectly good working device.

Right now I have the 2016 iPad Pro 9.7 which I would normally upgrade. But with the complaints from others about the screens not working correctly on the new Pros after a few months, I think I’ll wait.

I know it's not going to happen anytime soon but I will upgrade ONLY if Apple:

- Get rid of the camera bump
- Get rid of the notch

Thats it.

I'm an aesthetics kinda guy and pretty happy with current internals so anything improved I'll be happy with. And yes I am prepared to run my iPhone X to the ground until Apple does the two things above...I'm prepared to hold onto my X until 2022-24 if that's what it takes.

• 5S sized.
• USB-C.

I might skip on the top one, because it seems clear we aren't getting a smaller phone anymore, but I am definitely not getting something that doesn't have USB-C.

USB-C I think it’s likely more for 2020 then 2019. I think lightning will be here for at least the 2019 iPhones before the transition is made.

Also, there has been a rumor that surfaced that Apple is developing a 5.42 inch iPhone, which isn’t nearly as small as the 5S, but still offers something for those who want something not nearly as large as the
Max/XR.

I honestly can't think of anything at all that would make me upgrade. My Max has a great screen, is faster than my home desktop computer, great battery life, zero issues. Plus, if the new phones have that Fugly square camera cutout I'll hold unto my max till it dies and I have to replace it.

A wide angle camera
Apple Pencil support
Reverse wireless charging.

I have the Xs max.

However I usually decided after the keynote.

I'll decide after a keynote.

I'm still with an X, and saw nothing of XS that I had to have. I'm seeing nothing much for this year either. I'll probably be more interested in 2020 when 5G shows up. That said, LTE speeds seem good enough, TBH.

I have an 8 as my phone and an SE I use for work.

I’ll upgrade when Apple introduces a smaller X. The phones are all currently too big. Yes, I’ve seen the latest rumor, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

My most important feature are the numbers on my bank account. If those look decent then I know I can upgrade, but I usually stick to plans so I upgrade every two years and that helps me not notice it much on my bank account.

Nothing to justify. If I decide I want to upgrade I'll just do it. It was would be nice to see some features my X doesn't have but I won't hold my breath at this point.

I need an existing phone that no longer meets my needs and a sufficient financial situation. I don’t buy stuff just because I can.

Given that the current crop of new iPads doesn't have USB-C, I am actually starting to fear that Apple will ride out Lightning until we have iPhones that connect directly to the brain or something weird.

Yeah, I know, unfortunately I still think it will either be too large, or too under-spec'd.

I upgrade every year because I want the very best iPhone money can buy in my pocket.
Why?

I have a blue Xr.

The genuinely can’t think of anything else specs wise I need. I love the size. Love the screen. Love the camera. Love the battery life. It plenty fast enough. It

I can’t see any features coming in the next 2-4 years that would make me want to upgrade. Especially not if they don’t carry on the Xr line. I’d always wanted a blue iPhone.

I have always upgraded every year. I went from the X to the Xs this year and a couple weeks ago upgraded one last time to the Xs Max. I think this may be the first time I seriously plan to hold onto it and skip an upgrade for a year as Max has every feature and spec I could ever want. The screen is the absolute best I’ve ever had, the camera is outstanding, the size is perfect, and the battery life is great.

The only reason I would be compelled to change my mind on that and upgrade this year would be SIGNIFICANTLY more battery life as in double capacity of this battery that would double the life on the max. Unless there is any significant must have features that I must have, I’ll be staying for the first time.

Next year the 7 should be under 300 Euro in my neck of the woods, which is what i want to spent to replace my 5s.... i know i am cheap, but the 7 will be a massive upgrade to what i have now :)

Good for you - that's a great attitude to have. I usually like the 'latest and greatest' but haven't been able to upgrade for various reasons and it's actually not such a bad thing after all.

I'm still using my 7 plus and it's still great, so I imagine the 7 is too. I just hope that they do reduce it again for you and don't just suddenly discontinue it.

Used to upgrade yearly when each generation had significant upgrades given how slow the tech was. Now it's about price versus improvements because I don't want to take chances on screen quality. For me X had must have upgrades with OLED screen and near bezeless screen. Looks like year 2020 may bring even smaller bezels, will buy that.

What kind of upgrades do you expect the OLED panel to have? (I.e PWM reduction, resolution, ....)

I am weary of upgrading because of screen/panel lottery. 2020 will have true bezel less screen and incremental updates which for me will make it worth the risk of abandoning good panel and Qualcomm modem
