Why do iPhone fans expect the iPhone to be judged any different than the usual Android phone?

IMO, Samsung has endured much more harsh criticism from Android users than the iPhone, which is part of the reason Samsung phones are so much better today. But when the same level of criticism is thrown at the iPhone, users of the iPhone cry foul and are quick to use the word hater. The iPhone is just another phone just like Android phones, and I'm personally not going to give it any special passes when criticizing it.

Ever think ... maybe critics from Android users might seem harsh, cause many iPhone users would say anything to defend it's shortcoming and issues.

over the last 5 years i have had 7 different phones.. mostly all android but after having various problems with them or just getting bored last year i made the switch to apple and i have to say i love it. it works with no issues. battery life if great, camera is great.. sorry for the little rant it's just been winding me up seeing all this negativity and personal attacks on every piece of content aimed at apple products
Think you went a bit to far there. Every phone has issues. There is no perfect piece of tech.

i don't get it. why are they so aggressive and hateful? i never see apple fans acting like this when a new android product comes out..

Umm yeah, just go back and read any "Samsung just announced..." thread. Hell I was accused of being paid by Samsung to post positive stuff about them on this site, b/c somebody actually liking a Samsung product was just completely out of the realm of possibility for some users here. You get the extremes on both ends
[doublepost=1506574141][/doublepost]
I never understood it either. I would never go to an Android forum just to badmouth their platform or argue every point they are making in favor of iOS. They must have some weird inferiority complex or always feel like they need to justify their platform decision, when in reality it doesn't matter at all. It's an OS preference, use what you like.

Definitely not just an android thing. Plenty of iFans act like such snob elitist when it comes to the iPhone or any apple product for the matter, that its down right embarrassing. I still remember when instagram first launched on android some years ago and sadly quite a few Apple fans basically associate Android with being for poor/ghetto people. It was embarrassing and pathetic. And don't get me started on the "Samsung/Android always steals from Apple. Yet when Apple steals...."Oh Apple isn't stealing. They're just borrowing and making the idea better" The annoyance exists on both ends

I'm waiting for this thread to plunge into the usual one-upmanship battle with links to videos and such.
It does go both ways.
That said, I don't own an Apple device at all but I think the community here in the alternatives to IOS devices, is the best in the Android world… lots of people with lots of knowledge, not too many sycophants and people who are multi-platform are interesting to read/listen to.

But yeah, there are those who treat uses of other devices as the enemy, personal insults are just pathetic imo, and I've probably been guilty myself no doubt.

The ignore function on macrumours is great, it's like noise cancellation for forums.

When the iPhone 6 came out, there where many threads talking about the 1GB of RAM that the phone had. Apple apologists where defending Apple decisions to put in 1GB, one of the reasons they came up with is that 2GB of RAM would dramatically decrease battery life VS 1GB. These same people also defended the 16GB iPhone 6s. iPhone is a great device, my beef is more with Apple and the defenders, that will defend Apple at any cost.

this has probably been discussed before and sorry if it has.. i have been reading and watching a lot of things about the new iPhones and the one consistent thing i am seeing are android fans not just hating on apple but abusing people who buy apple products.

i don't get it. why are they so aggressive and hateful? i never see apple fans acting like this when a new android product comes out..

it's not even just online i work in a mobile phone retailer and i get customers who come in for android.. i suggest apple and they reply with things like "only idiots buy apple product"

They need to feel superior somehow.

It’s not just android fans.

I'll never understand it. People arguing over phones put out by multi million dollar companies. But it's the same with lots of things. Ps4 vs Xbox for example. It really is the most childish thing. But if it was children it might be understandable, though if it was my kid I'd tell them to grow up.

You don't (as far as I am aware) get the same thing over cable tv providers or electricity suppliers).
I don't like iPhone (at this point in time), but like many years between the release of the original iPhone, I will probably go back to it again soon enough. And when I say I don't like it, that's not strictly true, I got bored of it. Like I probably will of my current Android device and go back to iPhone.
They are just phones for Gods sake.

Identification is a powerful thing. And given the amount of time we spend staring at and fiddling with these devices, using them for everything from our most personal communication to our money to work to rest and recreation etc etc - such an incredibly large part of all the aspects of our personal lives - it's not strange really that they become quite important figures in our psyche. Add to that the power of branding, and the fact that we're spending huge amounts of cash on these things, and you have a pretty potent identification cocktail. On some level we consider our smartphones part of us. Criticize our choice of phone, and we take it as a personal insult. While having no insight into our own reaction.

There are always the same few people on my Facebook feed that not only post the same recycled anti-Apple memes, but also attack Apple users with various insults. The one thing that these people have in common is that they are all in lower income brackets.

This is not meant to offend anyone - please don't take the above statement as an insult. It just reeks of perceived class envy.

Here's how I see it. Apple used to be the go-to hipster company, it still is but iPhones aren't really just for hipsters anymore. That seems to be relegated to Android ever since the Note series with the huge screens. Then again I've seen some stupid posts from Apple fanboys that make me question their intelligence.

One thing I have, as yet, not seen on Android or any other forums is this strange feeling of "OMG look at this hate towards ME" when someone says something bad about something they bought. To me that means some folks have far too much of an emotional attachment to an inanimate object. Opinions that are contrary to yours do not equate to "hate."

Now if you want to talk about REAL hate, I only have to bring up the Patriots. Gawd I hate them.

This is nothing new, there are always people who feel they need to follow a brand. Kind of like a sports fan.

Both side's fanboys come off as aggressive. Its not hard to find due hard aoole fanboys around who defend any and every decision apple makes.

Same thing with android fanboys. They're rabid.

I personally love both iOS and Android. I however prefer iOS as a main phone. I feel android is better as a tablet because of the file system. That being said I have both android tablets and an iPad Pro.

I have been having trouble with Apple lately but it's just Apple. Everyone else can be having zero problems, so I see no reason for them to be hassled about it.

Either side of this spectrum is possible. Back in the BlackBerry OS days, you'd have those fans talking crap too. You've got those who will try everything and those who take brand loyalty to extremes.

Any place but here or there....
I know what works for me isn't always what works for anyone else. I could not get used to Android, so I came back to Apple.

I do not hate people who use Android and their phones, just like I have no problems for folks who prefer Windows over Macs. Whatever tech works for the individual is perfect in my book.

As the sad, but true saying goes "Haters gonna Hate..."

If I am truly upset about my tech, I have concrete reasons why. If there's a lot of negativity, I just avoid the threads. Life is too short to worry about what other people think and how rude some folks can be.

Maybe it does go both ways I guess. I just find it insane that they are not just attacking the product but attacking the people who buy it also. Guess that's that then really

If you haven't seen Apple fanboys doing this, then you are not looking. I've recently started shifting away from Apple products because frankly I think Apple has lost their way. I have had plenty of people on MacRumors attack not only my choice in technology, but me as a person. So I am not sure why you haven't seen it since it goes on here. Even in the "Alternative to MacOS" and "Alternative to iOS" forums, that are there to discuss non-Apple stuff.

But I don't really think of this is "abuse", a word you used in your first post. Its actually kind of entertaining when someone makes a total jacka$$ of themselves in a public forum.

I would just add here that within the Apple community itself this can also turn on jailbreakers.

Apple has ripped off jailbreak tweaks for quite some time and every time there is a launch of iOS with features ripped off from the JB community some of these people treat it as if Apple created it.

You point out how Apple ripped off the jailbreak community and then get instant condemnation and told how evil and wrong you are to be jailbreaking. 'Cause you know, jailbreaking is only done to pirate apps.

I also find it insane that when Apple implements a jailbreak feature poorly many of these same people in the community laud Apple for it's ingenuity and creativity. Nevermind that if they experienced the same feature with a jailbreak they'd realize just how bad a copy Apple made of it and how badly Apple implemented it.

In short, the same way there is tension between Android and Apple fans there is tension between those in the Apple community who jailbreak and those who do not.

Not trying to start a different discussion here on that, just pointing out how these Apple fans can also turn on their own when you bring up this topic.

I find that those that argue that jailbreaking made their slow, battery drains... or even bricked their phone (hard to do), are those that should not have Jailbroke their phones in the first place. The jailbreak community is good about teaching new people and sharing... and that is community that keeps me jailbreaking my iPhone. However, there are non-jailbreakers I agree with with... on those who jailbreak their phones to get hacked games and apps for free. Even jailbreak devs get their stuff stolen and put on hacked repos. That's the jailbreaker side that annoys me.

Anyhow... back on topic. I use both Android and iOS devices. They both have their advantages and disadvantages... somethings I like on one over the other. I could argue both ways... but I rather just enjoy my devices... no matter what brand I'm on that day.

It goes both ways. I dont get it either. I figure its just kids that do that but apparently it isnt exclusive to them. I wouldnt say im a Samsung fan as much as i just like the openness and features better than what Apple gives.
