Many people don't know that Sleep Apnea can cause your right side of your heart to enlarge. Before going on a VPAP machine I also would gasp for air in my sleep for many years. At that time I thought this CPAP stuff was a lot of BS. Then it got so bad I would wake up from a sound sleep jumping out of bed onto my feet gasping for air then the acid reflex would set in with my heart pounding in my chest. This happened three times within 2 weeks. I decided to get it checked out. I went to see the family doctor. He took X-Rays of my chest. Sure enough, my heart was enlarged. I made an appointment with the Sleep Doctor for a sleep study. The sleep study at that time was to take 2 nights. The first night was to see if you have sleep apnea and the second night you sleep with a CPAP machine so they can adjust your settings. For me it only took 30 minutes after going to sleep on the first night. They woke me up and put a CPAP on me since I was so bad. It took about a week or two to get use to the machine. After the breaking in period I was sleeping like a baby. No more snoring, gasping for air or acid reflux, all gone. About a year later I had X-Rays done of my chest again. Enlarged heart, all gone. Heart is normal again. The heart condition is reversible if you catch it in time.

Referencing sleep apnea, or the lesser snoring, last night my wife reported I woke her up by snoring. Besides a CPAP machine, has anyone had success with any of the snoring cures out there? I know I need to do a sleep evaluation, but am resisting.

I go by how sore my side is in the morning. :) I haven't been snoring for weeks, but I've woken up to a severely dry mouth and throat here and there. I must be living life as a guppy in my sleep.

So the removal of the benign polyp with necrosis (Laparoscopy last September) has left me with some issues. So I'll be getting a robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy on April 9th.

So guess my ailments are causing one surgery after another. Yeehaw!

This is rambling sorry about that I am not great at co communicating or writing.

Man you want wacky. Well I am frigging wacky. I had a bunch of antibiotics about 30 years ago for upper respiratory infections and for that bug that causes ulcers.

Well I had diarrhea for years afterwards and struggled finding something that would help. Finally found some bacteria that started working.

Well years later I was finding carbs where causing me issues. I don’t remember all the details but I was riding 20 miles a day on my commute and I had no extra energy. I found eating fruit or other carbs more did not help if anything it slowed me down a little. I found protein or fat worked better. Somewhere in there I cut carbs out of my diet. Well all of a sudden my lungs got so tight I could hardly move around and breathe. After two weeks of that I drug my self to the doc and after asmtha treatments that did not help they gave me a steroid and that took care of it. But it was the start of my food intolerances. I found I could not eat carbs without reactions and lots of other things. It was a battle over the years and more lung problems till I worked it out. I pretty much went no carbs but for a candy bar once a week. Felt good and was riding well. Got hit by a car (not not hurt much) but made the stupid decision that I could eat carbs agin. Worked for a bit but I got sicker and sicker but my food problems got really wacky. Even more foods caused problems and I got time limits on my eating. Like I could not eat after about 8 pm or I had reactions .I could only eat meat in the evening with just salt and pepper. Anything else and I had reactions. Most veggies now caused problems.

Well years later I bounced around trying to stick to this way of life and suffered off and on. I Splurged on carbs once a week and suffered some but not too bad. But I started suffering more and more from it and I was cutting way back on what I ate then. But I have had heartburn all my life since I was a little kid. (Runs in the family) and my heartburn was getting worse and worse.

I was getting to the point of cutting carbs out of my diet completey and on the fourth of July last year I had one of the last splurges I had some good chocolate and some potato chips.

Well that tipped my heartburn over the edge.

I had injured my arm in a scooter accident and hurt it a few more times over the months and my last genius urgent care doc told me to take Tylenol every 6 hours along with an anti-inflammatory. I had told my docs I had really bad heartburn but no one would listen.

Well between all of them and my food intake my heartburn went nuclear and went non stop bad for over 4 months. Nothing helped and none of the meds helped. In fact things like protonics made it worse. I spent 4 hours at urgent care so I could get a referral to a specialist to get it checked out. I got a lidocaine and malox drink that helped for 30 minutes but that was all I got for help.

I had freaked out my doc in emails when I told her how bad the heartburn was finally getting some help going. One thing that freaked her out is the heartburn made my left arm hurt like crazy . They though heart attack. Bu that was the arm I tore my rotator cuff on and I had have random body pains because of food problems. I had an EKG right away at urgent care and it was fine then later a stress test that was fine

Well I did a battle on any treatment in a timely manner and my arm was so painful but now I could not take anything for it. I wanted something topical to help so I could get off the Tylenol but all I got was over the counter suggestions ( I was using everything possible) so all this time I finally got slow appointments. They looked down my gullet and found my esophagus had some erosion and my hiatal hernia was medium to large size ( they found it when I was 11) of course they kept giving me the same things to do about heartburn that really did not apply to me. My doctor never really got how bad food treated me. Well through video appointments I found better doctor and changed to her. they were thinking I needed surgery but when I was going to talk to the surgeon they realized they forgot I needed a stomach ph test. This involved a tube down my esophagus to check out well it worked and a tube down my nose I had to wear for 1 day to monitor my ph.

That horror cost me about 1500 for the misery and as with all the other tests done showed my ph was normal. Also that surgery may not make it better but it could make it worse.

So after spending around 7000 out of pocket I got physical therapy for my shoulder and that did great but no help for the heartburn or food problems. I pretty much had to work all that out myself. I found I had at least two kinds of heartburn. One was direct esophagus irritation. Ether from food or stress or life. I finally worked it out when I had the tube down my gullet and it gave me that heartburn the whole time and two days after. That’s the heartburn that went off the charts for 4 months. I found anything acidic will set it off instantly anything spicy hot will too. And fat like if I put olive oil on greens or such would do it. Then I had the regular heartburn like most people do that antacid helped.

Once things got better I found my heartburn overall was much better. But my food intolerances where changing. Veggies started being a problem and I was battling finding what I could and could not eat. It has gotten to the point I am back hardcore protein only that is I eat bacon and eggs for breakfast every day (half a pound of bacon and two eggs) I would snack on sunflower or pistasios if needed some kind of lunch meat the high quality stuff and some cheese and for dinner a piece of meat. I have some plain unsweeted almond milk it helps with the heartburn.

Once a week I have a big tub of popcorn at the movies and maybe a little dark chocolate. For some reason dry corn is one of the few carbs that only effect me a little bit. so now it is the only treat I get.

When my heartburn was at its worst I was eating 3000 or so calories a day and more when I had the popcorn. I would loose a pound week pretty regular. The freaked my docs out but I had had this before. When all my food problems first started I had to eat about 6000 calories a day to make it through the day and I was loosing about a pound week then.

As I felt better I needed less food and now I have to watch it to loose weight.

So now I don’t know if I can eat any veggies at all. My reactions to them have grown more and more and even cucumbers that never seemed to bother me are now.

All the money I spent I had to work out what I could and could not eat myself. I Have talked to a nutritionist who thought I was so hungry because I was not getting enough fat. (Found out I just burned the calories) wanted me to eat more oil but it caused heartburn so I found I could take fish oil pills. I got a tablespoon worth twice a day. But the doc thought it was causing my in increase in heartburn and it was. And now I have to be careful of fat it will give me heartburn though that is getting better.

So now I am at the point of hard care protein only diet pretty low heartburn most days out about 7k and worse then I was food wise then when I went in and I had to do al the work myself (G) but I pretty much can’t eat anything but the basic protein diet on a regular basis or I react to it. This means all meds too that I have found. If I am in pain or sick I just have to suffer through it. I could take Tylenol but I really would not risk it any more. My cholesterol is fine even after a breakfast of bacon and eggs and nuts.

My blood pressure went up after the heartburn went out of control. It is slowly dropping but it is not at the normal level yet.

Though all the test show my vitamin levels were pretty good I had too much vitamin b because I was taking senior vitamins and they were triple the b vitamins.

But my big worry is can I live on protein only? I have finally faced the facts and have pretty good control of what I eat but it sucks. And what if I need meds? I cant take them. I crashed on my scooter Monday and I needed stitches and the doc gave me a oxytocin’s prescript. I did not even bother to fill it but I did not need it. Hell the pain from it was nothing compared to what I have had in the last year. But I was worried I would need antibiotics too.

I blame my docs I no longer have for not listening to me about my heartburn. Telling m to take Tylenol and I found out even worse the anti-inflammatory that was even worse than the Tylenol. I had to scare the crap out of them to get treatment.

Occasionally at night/early morning I get cramping in the calf of my left leg and/or around my ankle.....it is due to nerves being impinged and somewhat injured years ago when I had a herniated disc at L5/S1 and there was some residual damage even after the surgery. I notice that I am likely to have cramping more frequently when it's either very cold or very warm in the room or when I have not done much walking during the day. Walking each day and stretching the leg does help.

Sounds about right. I should do some more stretches for sure.

Had an attack of cramp earlier (after standing for a few hours jet washing the drive).
My leg hasn’t really felt right since.

When I first got up to 2500 yards swimming, I was getting some leg cramps. Stretching definitely makes a difference, but I usually stretch after I’m done working out and warmed up.

Dry skin between toes- I’ve developed a dry skin condition that is centered between my forth and fifth toes on both feet. It’s not generally itchy but the sensation of tightness, sensitivity, a noticible feeling that let’s me know something is going on there. When I touch that area, the skin feels overly dry.

My first impression is that it could be athlete’s foot, but when I had that a long time ago, I remember the effected area got raw real fast when rubbing it. But that now, does it seem to be the case. I also read that dry skin on feet can develop because of swimming in chlorinated water and I do that quite a bit.

An article I read said that lotion might be the answer, but I’m going to stop by the pharmacy today and see what kind of medications they have, and read the symptoms they are supposed to address. I’ve just never had an issue with overly dry skin before.

  • When you say riding 20 miles to work, did you mean your bicycle?
  • Non stop diarrhea for years.
  • Eating carbs caused issues.
  • Lungs so tight you could not breath.
  • Asthma and steroid treatments.
  • Chronic heartburn.
  • Veggies became a problem.
  • Eating 6000 calories and losing a pound a week.
  • Need an all protein diet.
Wow, Have you ever gotten a comprehensive diagnosis that adequately describes your condition?
Have you been hard core exercising all this time?
You’ve seen medial diet specialists? I know you mentioned doctors, I’d assume specialists, gastrointestinal?
I assume you are not over weight.
My impression is that carbs and vegetables are considered necessary parts of a healthy diet, and if you are hard core exercising, it seems strange that you can’t tolerate carbs which are fuel.
Are allergies or sensitivity part of this equation?
Sorry, for all the questions. I’m not being critical just curious.

It's the chlorine. I get that too over time during the summer. Try Gold Bond Healing. Minimal amount needed, leaves a powdery like finish. Soon you'll be dancing around the house to your Fred Astaire hits again.

So it's been two weeks since my hysterectomy. I gained about 15 lbs. Having a heck of a time with bloating (swelly belly). I'm finally getting the weight back down by munching on fruits and vegetables only.

I did start cleaning at day 4, went out to eat at day 6. Apparently those were bad ideas but nothing really bad occurred beyond discomfort and the bloat.

I was 130, now I'm down to 127. Wearing compression underwear has made a world of difference. Heating pad too.

I'm almost able to fit into my size 3/4 (27) jeans. So progress right?

They found scar tissue on my appendix sticking to my uterus. I got to keep my appendix though, so yay. My uterus was so heavily scarred they think the Mirena might have been partially embedded years ago, would have been terrible if I still wanted children.

I'm proud of how far I've come!

Amazing what they can do these days and just leave small laparotomy scars instead of having to open up the entire abdominal area! Makes recovery time so much quicker and more pleasant for the patient. I'm still surprised they left the appendix in. Curious.... Anyway, glad you're making good progress and are feeling better!

Glad this worked out for you. I’m almost surprised they did not take your appendix too, but it was not part of the original plan, so if in good enough shape, just leave it alone! It is amazing what they are doing with modern surgery! :)

I used to have to eat that many calories now it is closer to a more normal level. I dont ride anymore I odnt have the spare energy. The heartburn has been tested to within a inch of my life. including this horrible tube down my nose for a day. my ph was normal. most of my heartburn now is from my esophagus getting irritated from nerve issues over actual reflux. But I am somewhat overweight I am now down to 192. but weight has never effected it and I used to be a lot heavier.
it is a combo of problems. my food intolerance I think are the key and the one the docs have no clue about and no ideas on how to treat. They create most of my heartburn now if I eat something my body does not like. I think the food intorlances started from too many antibotics in my 20's and was slow do develop. but it has been the thing the docs have no clue about how to deal with. but it controls my life. no eating out no spices or seasoning I have to watch my fat because it can cause more heartburn (but my nutritionist wants me to eat more fat)
Tried a new med that could help nerve problems and other problems but after a month my body did not like me eating it. I could live with the side effects of the meds but it was making my body sick because of the food problems. If I could take it without eating it I would be good.
I am between a rock and a hard place. I have never found anything new I can eat but I don't think without help I will ever get over this. if I get sick I cant take anything if I am in pain I can't take Tylenol anymore because of the heartburn.
I don't know if my doctors are clueless or there is no help. I spent 7000 out 0f pocket last year on tests and such and I am no better off and I Have had to work most of it out myself. i am starting to think this is a lifetime problem.
If I get really sick or have to go to the hospital I am going to be in trouble.

I’m so sorry you are having to suffer through this health crisis. I realize my sorry and $2 buys you a coffee, if you could drink one. :( Do they have a name that describes your condition?

No coffee way to acidic. Man anything sour irritates my esophagus in a big way. I have to be careful of even sour cheese. All I found I can drink is water and plain almond milk thats unsweetened. I get away with a high ball carbonated energy drink once in awhile but carbonated water is acidic so not often.

The food intolerances are a autoimmune disease of some type but it is lumped under IBS by my docs. I have been tested for about everything. They tested how well I absorb nutrients and that was ok. A vitamin a day does most of it.

But what can they do when I can’t take anything? I finally tried the pamelor they prescribed for me. It is an anti depressant that can help with nerve problems in the digestive tract. I had 20mg pills a dinky pill and it seemed ok for maybe 20 days. But my body decided it was going to hate it and I started getting worse heartburn and getting tired and lethargic. I went a longer then usual when I realized it was a issue I wanted to make sure I eliminated any possible culprit so I could get the full effects of the meds since they need 30 to 45 days to reach full effect. But nope made it to about 27 days.

I have head heartburn all of my life since I could remember the same with my brother. There is some thing that ran through the male side of my family stomach problems. But no one talked about it all ,my grandparents are are all dead and they only had girls.

My heartburn used to be almost all normal acid reflux but after I took protonix my esphogus irritation started (took till a few months ago to really know what was going on)

My food problems used to cause more problems and have eased over the years. But what really was happening instead of messing ups my lungs they were messing up my esphogus. When I had heartburn (irritation) for 4 months 24/7 and no relief all I could eat was protein. If I tried any veggies they would make me feel all loopy. That finally passed but it became a problem with all veggies. Over a couple of months I pretty much had to even eliminate cucumbers and that was one of the only veggies I could always eat.

Having my eshogus hurt so bad 24/7 for 4 months about did me in. I had also hurt my left arm and it was really painful (took them almost 6 months to give me a mir and find out I. Had a torn rotator cuff an a couple other torn muscles) before my heartburn went out of control lI kept telling them the Tylenol was giving me me heartburn and I wanted something to put on my arm so I could get off of it. But I just kept getting over the counter recommendations. Plus I was told the anti inflammatory wouldn’t give me heartburn. Bull pucky between the two and the once a week sugar I had my heartburn went nuclear and after O told my doc through email that it was making my left arm hurt I freaked her out and finally got started on the long process of seeing a specialist. They thought I was having a heart attack and wanted me to rush to the ER. But I said I would go to urgent care as soon as they opened. They did a ekg right away then I waited 3 hours to finally get a recommendation to a specialist that took another month. I even had a stress test cause they were sure my heart was wonky. Nope it was fine. But I found a lot of my arm pain was from my esophagus hurting so bad. If it hurt my arm hurt. Slow test a look down my gullet I talked to a surgeon but they forgot to schedule the test I showed a pic of to check my ph of my stomach and check how well my esophagus worked on swallowing. Took 3 more 4 months to get that test cause only one person did it.

Man that was 24 hours f hell I would never wish on anyone and of course it came back my ph was normal. I have had a hiatal hernia all my life but the surgeon did not think that was my heartburn cause and surgery may even make it worse.

So all of that and it came down to me controlling and figuring out what I could eat. None of the heartburn meds worked over the years and now I could not take them but since it was not acid reflux anymore well of course they did not help.

So here I am between my esophagus and the food intolerances I am stuck with protein only. Cant really go out to eat anymore so I buy stuff with grub hub and stuff for my wife. She cant cook and I cant really do much cooking as I cant even taste it I bought mostly stuff from a good deli for her. So we both suffered. Now she eats pretty well.

Carbs have been a issue since the antibiotics I think maybe 25 or more years ago. .0but it was a slow thing that really only got bad once I stopped eating them. I think a lot of it is because I had some bad gut bacteria. My wife after years of this started having problems with carbs. Only complex carbs wheat and rice and corn and such. It made life a bit easier at the time. Complex carbs were the worst for me and still are. But in the last couple years she could eat wheat and potatoes and a few grains again. But not rice (that really got us both bad) she still cant eat corn Burt thats the one carb I can eat once a week. A bit tub of popcorn with lots f butter at the movies and a little dark chocolate is my carb intake limit each week.
[doublepost=1556246581][/doublepost]but the good part is I get to eat 1/2 a pound of bacon and two eggs every day. as much fat as I can manage. I had bacon and eggs and nuts a hour or two before they tested mu cholesterol and it was fine.

You have my sympathies @steve knight.
My wife suffers from food intolerance. She has a very limited diet. Very plain. Makes it very difficult for her.

She gets IBS, face swelling and pretty much instant diarrhoea if she eats foods on her no list.
Her diet consists of white rice, chicken and some vegetables mostly.
She can’t have dairy or wheat. She cooks her own flat pancake things she has for breakfast and lunch. Always just plain though.
She drinks water or nettle tea.

We haven’t eaten out together in years.

Ya cooking for my wife is fun. I got a instant pot and now I can just throw stuff together for her.

Goodness. I am fully healed aside from this insane swelling and soreness in my lower abdomen at night. I can do nothing or clean my place for 7 hours straight and the result is the same.

My OBGYN says he has no idea why it's happening. It's frustrating. They call it swelly belly but I'd love to figure out how to minimize it, my sleep is already very fractured and almost nonexistent.

Gotta admit, the appellation is catchy.

Swelly anything is common after laparoscopic surgery. Often times it's just remaining air. Your body will absorb it and dispose of it. Contact your doctor if it becomes painful or painful to touch, as in very tender.

He told me it's been far too long for this. I have read about swelling due to damage done to the organs and possible adhesions. I'm going to see my primary care doctor to get another opinion.
