Says I have done 4 cycles (one of which was a calibration when I first got it).

I leave it plugged in most of the time

MacBook Pro 13" 2.26 GHz
5 cycles
Calibrated
Current capacity: 5325 mAh
Original capacity: 5450 mAh

97% is still within specs, as long as it stays for a long time at this level!

MacBook Pro 13" 2.26 GHz
5 cycles
98% health
Non Calibrated
Current capacity: 5357 mAh
Original capacity: 5450 mAh

MacBook Pro 15"

Isn't it bad if it's plugged in all the time?!

Well, I will unplug occasionally if I sit on my bed, but it is usually plugged in at my desk. Apple says that if this is the case to make sure you calibrate the battery at least once a month...

However, after all the magsafe fire stories I have taken to unplugging it whenever I leave the house now, heh.

Just wondering how often should you calibrate your battery? I'm on my 5th cycle I did it once so far. ( just got the MBP last Thursday)

No need to calibrate often

Lion based battery like shallow discharge/charge cycles. Every time you do a battery calibration (deep discharge and then full charge) you lose some capacity (more so than, say, 5 times 20% discharge/charge cycles). The only benefits of calibration is to tell you in number the capacity, it DOES NOT improves your battery's capacity.

So here is my recommendation, do battery calibration ONLY if the reading is way off. Enjoy the excellent battery life of your MBP.

I have not done a single calibration and don't plan to.

MBP 15, 2.66G.

Cycle: 0 (Just received today)
Current: 6893
Original: 6500.

Three cycles

Current Battery Charge 5534 mAh
Maximum Battery Charge 5538 mAh

99%

Current Battery Capacity 5538 mAh
Original Battery Capacity 5450 mAh

100%

-----------

If I'm not reading those numbers wrong, is my battery holding a higher charge than it should?

There never seems to be any consensus on this... Apple strongly recommends at least one monthly deep discharge to calibrate and keep the battery in good condition, and advises against running the machine plugged in all the time.

Some say follow Apple's advice. Others say avoid deep discharges at all cost, top off as often as you can. *shrug*

Anyway, here's the battery reading on the MBP 17" I got last week. After two calibrations I haven't been able to get more than 95% battery health in iStat (Coconut couldn't detect the original capacity so 12500 is just some bogus number I entered manually). The capacity fluctuates between 12100 mAh and 12350 mAh, which is several hundred mAh under the 12700-12800 capacity reported by most users. But how do you go about asking if they'll replace it? I bought it from the online store. There are no Apple Stores in Sweden so I can't take it to one of those. There's a Premium Apple Reseller in the neighboring town, but those morons took 3 weeks to repair my iMac on APP and it came back with dust and smudges on the inside of the glass, so there's no way on earth I'll trust them with anything again.

13" MBP 2.53 GHz

Original Capacity (on first use) 5540mAh
After Calibration 5400mAh (99%)
Currently 5462mAh

7 Load cycles after 1 weeks usage (3 weeks machine age)

May redo calibration tho as it was done not quite following steps. Charged like it should have been but during the discharge stage I was put to sleep a few times. Partially charged and then use till sleep and left for 6 odd hours.

You guys are down to 97/98% already! Oh wow! On my White macbook, I was at 112 cycles and only 98% original capacity left...

So how many of you drained the battery on FIRST USE... versus those that plugged it in on FIRST USE?

Also.. to get the ORIGINAL mAH reading... do we need to install coconut battery the minute we turn on the machine?

THANKS!

The original battery capacity is almost hardcoded if anything, doesn't matter when you run CoconutBattery.
