Superior UI design. Superior hardware design. Best integration of hardware/software. Best integrated system (I own an iPad, iPhone, MacPro, MacBook Air, two Apple TVs and a MacBook Pro.) Quickly improving suite of services (iTunes Store, Apple Music, iCloud etc.)
Beyond that, I’ve been an Apple customer since 1993 when I bought a Performa 475. It came with 4 meg of RAM and a 160 meg hard drive. It was clocked at 24mhz from the factory but I overclocked it to 33mhz and upgraded it to 8 meg of ram. The 475 had no FPU and a whopping 8k of L2 cache on a separate bus. After upgrading it, adding a modem and an external 500 meg drive I was into that box for just over 2k. I ran Photoshop 2.5 on it initially. No layers. Single undo. 8 bit color. Made my living with that setup for three years.

I love the way all their products work together and the ease of use. Plus they last well past their useful purpose. I'm typing this on my late 2007 black MacBook that I busted out to mess around with tonight. I use it every once and awhile to remind me of how far Apple has come in 10 years.
I don't know a single person who's switched from iOS to Android, and who hasn't come back to iOS. They all say that the first week or two with Android are great, but then as they customize their phone the interface gets all jacked up, the apps have no common feel, and miss the overeall Apple experience. They still complain about iOS, but in the end that's what I see most people using.
I travel a lot, and I always take note that in airports and airplanes, it's the exception to see an Android phone. I'd say 95% of the phones are iPhones.

Simplicity...All my iPhones and iPads work the same. My needs are simple. Doesn't take much to please me. I don't want to tinker with phones or computers anymore. Same with my tv..I turn it on and it works.
Got an X from my 6S +... Returned it, now I may go to a Note 8. The only concern I have is battery life and I may miss iMessage since everyone I know has an iPhone.
It’s not just about the phone, it’s about the ease and intuitiveness of the ecosystem that comes with having multiple Apple products. Also, I applaud Apple for their overall stance on privacy and security.
I would say it's more about the ease and Intuitiveness of iOS versus the ecosystem. The ecosystem is just a connection and communication between other devices within Apples pipeline. iOS as plain as it may be, works very well for what it is and is simplistic.
Yep iMessage for me too. The Pixel 2 is a great device and I really love stock vanilla android. Boggles my mind why Google can’t do something similar to iMessage. I mean it’s iMessage then there’s everything else.
Ecosystem, iMessage, and Facetime. I currently have a Note 8 and an iPhone X and I am trying them both out this week. The Note 8 screen is unbelievable. However, I did not realize how much I rely on iMessage until you try to receive a video, GIF, or a high res pic from an iPhone user. It looks like crap on an Android device because of MMS restrictions. I love the customization of the Android, but I love how simple it is to work with my iPad, MBP, Apple TV, and Watch. If google finds a fix for an iMessage alternative, then I may consider it.
That being said, I am trying to move photos, movies, etc. to google or an alternative, so all my media is not stuck in the in the Apple ecosystem in case I want to move later. For Photos, I use lightroom. I also import my photos and videos on iPhone into lightroom, so I could always move fairly easily.
Also, Android auto is much better than Apple CarPlay becuase you can use google maps or Waze. Great stuff.

Like I said I have a Pixel 2 and an iPhone X. To me both OS are equal. The Pixel 2 is buttery smooth and I use Google Assistant a lot. Hardware wise I like the utilitarian look of the Pixel. If it wasn’t for iMessage and integration between my iPad an iMac it would be the Pixel 2 for me. So I guess it’s the ecosystem that keeps me with Apple.
I would prefer Google’s ecosystem if there was a similar integration like Apple.
I stick with Apple because it just works. I also stick with Android because it works the way I want it to. In other words I have 1 foot firmly planted in android and the other in apple. Love having both.
I will say Google's Allo (imessage alternative) is pretty cool. I just need to get all of my friends and family to download it since most have iPhones!
For me it was ease of use, security and not thinking about my tech so I can create. I hope this continues despite my absolute disgust with Apple's brass and their price gauging fashion over function.
I've tried Android and disliked it immensely. However, the Essential phone looks wonderful on many levels, so I will follow that company's progress and further developments with Android. I'd like to be on one system, but who knows where I might wind up.

For me its not even have great Apple is. I had a preorder on a Pixel2xl until it turned into a cluster**** of halfassed design.
They both push customers away, google just pushes harder, to create crappy lack luster products.
$850 for a device without forward thinking authentication, no innovation, mediocre single camera, no iMessage type system. Guaranteed updates for 3years when apple is trending to 5years, poorly engineered lcd and earpeice/speakers, no wireless qi charging, and more...
And they are aiming for within 15% of Apples premium? Apple charges an arm and a leg, sure. But android isn’t that much cheaper and is really really poor value for your money.
I had a Windows Phone for a while and it was wonderful. The interface had been completely re-imagined from other smart phones and it was a joy to use. But there weren’t enough apps out for that platform, so I went back to iOS. A shame, really.
Over the course of my professional career I’ve used the UNIX shell, many versions of Windows and LINUX... I’ve even spent a fair amount of time in more obscure OSs like Solaris and the short lived BeOS. On the phone side I’ve used WebOS, Windows Phone, various flavors of Android...
In my opinion MacOS and iOS are superior to all of them from a UI perspective. That’s central to why I stay.
