Microsoft stopped making Smartphones.

Also, software I need for work requires a mac (too many bugs on Windows), otherwise I'd be rocking a SurfaceBook...

Damn, I miss the old Apple.

Because Android doesnt have a proper tablet and a Watch. I personally find the iPhone overpriced as compared to the Note 8. But the lack of a tablet forces my hand.

I see people with a Samsung or Android smartphone and an iPad a lot on campus.

The ecosystem. But it goes a little deeper than that I suppose. AppleCare is unrivaled, and that was really one of the first things that kept me coming back over and over. But then the more products I bought, and loved, the further I invested myself into the ecosystem. I've owned a couple of Android phones over the years, but I only kept them for 2-3 months at a time. I like to try out a different OS from time to time, but I always end up with an Apple device. It's just my preference.

Yep I agree with Apple Care. This is the main reason I keep buying iPhones. There’s no other smartphone maker that offers the customer service and support like Apple for a smartphone. A couple of months ago my iPhone 7 wouldn’t take a charge and eventually died while I was at work. The Apple Store is a 10 minute drive and I didn’t make a Genius appointment. Had to wait like 20 minutes. Since my iPhone 7 wouldn’t power on I walked out with a new replacement in like 45 minutes.

As far as the ecosystem I don’t use an ecosystem per se maybe I do. With the iPhone I don’t think about a family of products working together.

I’m on my iPhone a lot and don’t even use my iPad anymore. I only go on my Mac very rarely only when I need too.

Really, if you are using iPhoto and syncing across other devices, Apple really excepts you to use iCloud for this..

ie.. to back up Notes on Mac, Apple recommends iCloud for instance, because they don't want to to (a. stuff up the OS, and b) back then up to external drive... otherwise they wold have offered that via an default app.

The tricky part is leaving the Apple eco-system and moving everything over to other services, which no one really likes doing as it takes too long if u have thousands of photos or music in AM synced, and iMessage (I don't use it, mainly because i don't wish to have my mobile related to an Apple account)

I am sticking with Apple because of my Apple watches. I have several. I use them for all the usual purposes and especially for fitness. Walking is my thing.

As far as Macs, I still enjoy using my 2015 15" MBP every day. I have a Surface Pro 2 that I only use to restore my Android phones or to copy things to and from those phones since they show as storage unlike on my MBP. I did use it as my everyday computer for a few months after purchase and then went right back to using my Mac.

I’ve tried android devices 3 different time. After each time waiting a bit to see if it has gotten better. I can’t even last 3 months with an android device. I always go back to Apple. Simply can’t stand them.

I stick with Apple for a number of reasons.

In no particular order:
  • Inertia: its easier to stay with what I have then change platforms. I have the apps I like the way iOS or OS X works. Its all muscle memory.
  • malware: I've read that the google app store is rife with counterfeit and/or malware apps. Something I really don't want to deal with. On the OS X/Windows side. I do like Windows and much of the traditional viruses are no longer an issue in Windows, but ransomware is rearing its ugly head and it seems more targeted at Windows.
  • Design: I do like the design of what is rolling out at Apple, both in laptops and phones.
  • Integration: I'm getting rewarded for using Macs and iPhones with a tightly integrated user experience.

Reasons for me to leave the platform
  • Quality: Apple's QC seems to be slipping. Take the keyboard as a prime example.
  • Cost: Its harder to justify spending almost 3k on a laptop when I can spend 1/2 that and get a machine that on paper uses a better GPU, CPU, more storage. Overall a better machine
  • Planned obsolescence: It seems apple is more then happy to design a machine that is sealed where you cannot upgrade or even repair.

So there you have it, I have my reasons for sticking with Apple, but that doesn't mean I'm all that happy with how things seem to be right now. I just bought an iPhone X, so I don't see myself leaving iOS any time soon and my iMac is only 2 years old so I'm happy with that. I need a new laptop though and the odds are high that I'll be getting a windows machine

Currently, for me their is no alternative.

I was a Microsoft guy for a long time, even working toward being an”Architect” if anyone remembers that. Did a lot in the industry etc. under the Gates Microsoft era. Then became tired of always having to configure everything to make it work, security, patches, tired of all of the bugs in Windows, tired of spending at least three hours everytime I bought something to add to my systems to make sure eveything works.... not to mention dealing with the networks and servers daily mess.

Now...the same thing is starting to happen...slowly...now with Apple.

I enjoy Apple’s products and ecosystem. Until something better comes along..I stay.

Microsoft ecosystem has improved, but I do not like how they implement, including subscription fees, systems calling “home” to much, “taking” all of my information under the banner of “improvement” and selling it to marketing firms and also moving everything toward a completely closed system.

Apple’s OS is not currently a fully closed system contra to some beliefs, though they too might be moving fully toward that. I still have the option to get in and configure if need or desired in macOS. iOS is becoming or is now an appliance, but macOS is still open some what, but with constraints.

Apple use to make fun of Microsoft...marketed themselves before and said that they are the “under dog”, pirate, small guy fighting against the machine, the system. Now they have taken the role that they prided themselves on to fight against before. They became the IBM....they became Microsoft....they became “The System”...

Several thousand dollars spent on iTunes content. And at this point, that's pretty much it.

I’m not at a several thousand but movies anywhere really did help with my dependency on iTunes. Everything I bought is available on most platforms
