Shouldn't have to disable something which is bad and broken. It just should stay out of the way.

Counterproductive is using Windows.

Could say the same thing about Siri. I would also like to disable spell correction or predictive spelling as well. That's counterproductive to me in ANY OS or phone for that matter.

Your comment about Windows is your opinion, not fact.

Spell correction is amazing on iOS, macOS, and Android. Like most things, it's garbage on Windows.

When I buy a phone I'll always buy the previous year model. Last year when I upgraded; my carrier still has the 2 yr subtized plans; I purchased a 256 GB 8+. The phone was close to $900; but I paid $300 something cause it was half price month. I never buy the newest phone I couldn't afford it. Now I probably could but I'm not going too. I have other bills to pay things to take care of. I'll still be using my 8+ next year as long as the speaker holds up. I've had problems with it that Apple didn't fix.

I was going to buy a Macbook but I endned up buying my tried and true Dell laptop. When you look at the specs and price I can't justifiy spending that much money on a laptop. I just now upraded my ipad mini g2 and purchased a regular ipad 32gb. Actually my mother has my mini and for her it works fine.

I've fiddled and used Windows long enough that tinkering with it doesn't bother me. can't say the same thing for my first smartphone...Atrix...but I liked that phone but hated it. LOL. My point is I will always buy the previous Iphone model because the price for the newest model just doesn't appeal to me.

The 4" iPhone SE size is dead and never coming back. The next best thing for people who like small and compact phones is the rumoured 5.4" iPhone.

I think that one thing that is often overlooked in smart phones is the fact there are two significant dimensions: The screen and the case.

So lets compare:
Phone Height Width Screen
X 5.65" 2.79" 5.8"
7/8 5.44" 2.64" 4.7"
SE/5S 4.87" 2.30" 4.0"

Here's the trick. The X is basically edge to edge. That's how you take a case not much bigger than the 6/7/8 and put an inch bigger screen in it. If that rumored 2020 iPhone has a 5.4" edge-to-edge, it may be just a touch bigger than the SE! I can live with that!

Most of us SE fans love the feel of the phone in the hand/pocket. Yah, my eyes aren't as good as they used to be and I could use a larger screen, but I don't want to carry an iPad mini in my pocket (I exaggerate, but not much). This might be just the solution we've been clamoring for. Now, we wait another year and hope for a decent price and an actual product!

Microsoft obviously wants to promote their Crotana to compete against Siri and Google Assistant, and the best and probably only place to put it is on Windows. What would you expect them to do? Discarding Crotana entirely? I agree that maybe Microsoft should use another method to summon Crotana instead of integrating it every time you open the start menu. But Apple has deeply integrated Siri into their macOS and iOS as well. Since there is no obvious start menu equivalent in macOS (launchpad is not the same thing), you have a much lower chance to directly interact with Siri. But every time you want to search something on iPhone iPad, Siri stuff will show up. Use spotlight to search, and Siri stuff will show up. I don’t know who is the winner here.

Oh, to stop derailing this thread further, I will not continue on this topic.

To the main one, I am ok with a plus or max size device and ok with discontinuing SE and especially 12” MacBook. I don’t see the point of having only one port to push people relying on wireless. Ok on a phone. Not ok on a computer.

You pretty much nailed it.

It's just another piece of the comedy of errors that is today's Windows platform. Is it any wonder Microsoft has shifted its corporate focus away from Windows?

Seems Apple and Windows want their voice assistants to be an integral part of the user experience. Both are going about it in different ways, both with success and failure.

Not sure why Windows became the focus of this thread. The OP is pretty straight forward with the assumption that Apple is phasing out their entry level and lower cost hardware. Again not sure what Windows has to do with that.

I use Windows for work and my organization delayed the switch from 7 to 10 until Dell would no longer ship 7 on new machines last year, or something.

I've used Windows my whole life until I got my first Mac in 2014, and I thought I was quite good at using Windows. There are some things I can't figure out for the life of me on Windows 10, and these are all things that had been in the same place since Windows XP. Yet they can't get a goddamn browser right. And Cortana comes up for no reason.

I use LTSB for a lot of my work and that's just Windows the way it should be. All the crap is basically cut out. Cortana is DOA on it. It's just Windows, which is fine if not buggy and sort of a security issue.

If Apple can somewhat retain the iPhone SE size yet give it an edge-to-edge display, it would be the best iPhone ever.

I'm sure a ton of folks would upgrade to the smaller size. Judging by not only this website and various other places (like Android forums) many people wish manufacturers still made small phones. If Apple does make the rumoured 5.4" iPhone I bet a lot of people will switch.
