Going to go for 12.9" M4 iPad Pro with 8GB of RAM. Never saw the need for more than 8GB of RAM on the iPad.

Query. If the new iPad Pro with M4 chip is in fact released, does higher RAM/SSD configurations help get more out of the M4 chip? If so which one of the two upgrades would be more significant?
I think you need to define "...more out of". RAM can affect performance of larger apps and using large data sets. Some claim they have fewer reloads with 16 gb compared to 8 Gb so if reloads is frequent, yes you will get more with 16 Gb RAM (unless of course you have th patience to wait for the reload of the app). In terms of compute performance, very unlikely.

Well, after all this waiting around, we might finally be receiving our iPads a week from today.

I think you mean with 16GB you'll get less reloads.

That's the same thing I did - went 1TB 16GB on my 12.9 Pro M1 to ensure I had the maximum RAM to prevent app/webpage reloads. I was constantly losing things I was typing/doing on one tab if I went to another tab to research.

Did getting an iPad with more RAM seem to help?

I'm a little nervous that the Pros are going to get a "later in May" release date, or even something like June 7th, given all the talk of low display yield.

Sold my 2021 12.9in 128gb for £550 last night in anticipation of the Tuesday announcement. I’m already missing having an iPad!

The talk has been mainly about a low yield of the 11in OLED displays hasn't it? Maybe they will release the Air first?

Isn't there a swap file? At least from M1 SOC and newer? This should fix this.
