It seems like he literally explained it in the post you quoted.

 You don't say?!

I didn't do anything. It just automatically started doing it after updating my iPhone 5s to ios 9.

hmm..maybe i wonder if it's vehicle specific to make your phone display it like that? Of course mine show on the today screen based on where I am in relation to a frequent place traveled, but to see it as a notification as such seems intriguing. I shall conduct experiments tomorrow

I'm pre-empting my result before actually trying it but I suspect this won't work given the BT in my Polo (and no it's not a diesel!) is very basic - can't even play music. I'd like it to recognise a specific BT speaker as I have a UE boom I use in the car. I will certainly try it though!

Interesting. I have a 2015 Honda Fit, with hands free link, and it did not work. It's the base model, but it's still called "hands free link".

Ok, I tried it again and it worked. Not sure what the problem was the first time. Very cool! I wish they'd implement other reminders like this (next time I plug in headphones, next time I use AirPlay, etc...)

Worked on my 2015 Cadillac CTS. One thing to make sure of is the syntax you use. I know the "Remind me about this" is very fussy. The car one may be as well.

Ok so sat outside my home I tried this "remind me to eat a sausage when I get in the car". It came up on my watch as a location of "arriving here". When my Polo's BT connected, the iPhone screen came on but no reminder. I have been seeing those "30 minutes to home" type messages when I've gotten into the car and not been at home, so maybe it does work - but you can't be at home for them to be shown?

I even had one in the garage this morning - I suspect my phone connected when they drove it into the ramp...

It shouldn't just have to hook up to BT to make it work.

Your phone should know that a human can't walk/run 20+mph and automatically know when you're driving.

This feature has worked for me since the moment I updated to iOS9. I turn on my 2014 Honda Civic, the phone auto pairs to the car, and instantly google maps pops up "Traffic to work today is normal. 44 minutes".

I didn't do anything to set this up. It just worked after I got on iOS9.

Google maps? Mine pops up with Apple maps.

I just turned the location services on for frequent places yesterday… how long do you think I have to wait for the iPhone to notice a pattern and start giving me notifications?

That's the syntax thing I was talking about. Try it as "remind me when I get in my car to eat a sausage"

Yeah, Google Maps. I never use Apple maps.

I'd say a few days, maybe a week at most.
I'd say a week for it to learn your travelling pattern. Anyone know if this gives a hit in battery life?

How did you get this to work? What location settings need to be turned on?

image.png image.png image.png image.jpeg

Here's everything I have turned on. Just start asking Siri for directions to a few places you go daily, and pretty soon a pattern will be recognized. As fas seeing it as a notification on the lock screen, I have my phone paired with my 2013 Honda Accord EX-L. Once synced, traffic and ETA appear on the lock screen as will any "remind me to xxxx when I get in the car" reminders.

Not that it matter to me. But some people might point this as a "privacy" concern. I wonder if this is exclusively native to the users phone.

I remember when Apple first introduced this feature, that was one of the first issues raised. But it's totally up to the user, and that's what makes it a win-win.

All the tracking information is on your phone only. Apple made this very clear during the presentation that the information isn't being shared (unless you choose to share your location with a friend or something). It's simply using GPS to get your location and then storing that information directly into the phone (not iCloud or any online service) and that's how it learns your patterns.

What did not work was the reverse. While in my vehicle, I asked siri to "remind me when I get home to call my friend" in which siri created a reminder and it looked just fine. However when I got home, even after entering my house minutes later, it never notified me.

Were you connected to BT in the car?
