I'll address everyone's question with this post...because it will be as close to 'Mini' as iPhones are going to get moving forward. If you couldn't pick up the sarcasm I was laying on fairly thick, it won't stop them from complaining anyway...that was the whole point. Nothing will. 😁
> Nothing will

I'm pretty sure offering a Mini would? Not sure what you're trying to say here?

Wasn't the main idea of buying the iPhone SE avoiding the notch?
No, not at all:

SE has nothing to do with specific specs or features, or accommodating to Touch ID fans.

SE is all about the high value of getting Apple's latest SoC and the low price you get it for.

Everything else is secondary which is why the rest of the specs, hardware and chassis is outdated and "budget"-tier.

Dynamic Island is now the new, second generation "notch", and what the mid-tier and Pro iPhones get.

The 12/13/14 notch is now the "Touch ID" of the current generation and can thus land in an iPhone SE.

iPhone 16 will be a bad purchase. iPhone SE will have almost all features and you’ll avoid the Dynamic Island. For almost half the price.

In 2025 comes iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. No regular iPhone. And a third model with new ”slim” design under Apple Phone moniker. Or AirPhone, like AirPods.

2026 comes Apple Phone (2026) and Apple Phone Ultra (larger), both with under display FaceID.

iPhone SE will be the last remaining iPhone.

They would lose market share to Android if they did. One data point from here: “According to Counterpoint Research’s Smartphone Model Share Tracker, Q4 2021, the 4G iPhone SE 2020 accounted for 12% of Apple’s total iPhone unit sales from its launch in Q2 2020 to Q4 2021 – with Japan and US the biggest markets for the device globally.”

With the SE4 being a more attractive form factor than the SE2/3 for many, I would expect more cash-strapped consumers to buy it that would otherwise buy an Android phone.
Yes, Face ID (sans Dynamic Island) is still a great feature and has a very high value for mainstream consumers.

Combine that with the latest SoC, an OLED display, and a few other upgrades packaged in an iPhone 14 body, and I think they'll have a real "inflation bestseller".

However, there will be no hit for Apple if the value doesn't match the price. Anything far beyond $499 could probably ruin SE 4 sales. It all comes down to value/$, and it has to be good for consumers to settle with this Franken-iPhone of a 14 with a new SoC.

The SE series phones are all about being the most inexpensive iPhone. It was about reuse of some older Apple production elements with some current Apple production hardware. It was never about small, notch-less, Touch ID. Those elements only got included since they came from recent Apple hardware “that was still lying around.

The 6.1” screen was obvious since that is the smallest screen from RECENT Apple iPhone.

The only real surprise is the brand new Apple 5G modem for the SE4. Cannot help that it’s a trial run and I find that scary

Agree.

Dynamic Island is very clever and beautifully implemented. Unlike what anyone else is doing.

But what Dynamic Island offers over "plain" Face ID is not a lot and nowhere near as obvious as the difference between Touch ID and Face ID.

I see Apple selling a ton of 16 Pro/Maxs and SE 4s, and not so many 16/16 Plus.

correct.
but the SE has been successful because of a variety of other reasons as well.
it is difficult to put together an ordered list of these reasons since the SE's strong points differs from group to group.
- pocketable is priority group
- never notchers group
- LCD so no headache group
- price is great group
- buy it for my kid group

Lightweight, no notch, LCD, touch ID are my reasons for preferring it. I know it will not happen but I would much rather they just update the current SE’s internals, add a usb charging port for EU compliance, and call it a day.

Do you think complaining about it on MacRumors will honestly get you the device that you desire? Very few people were buying the Mini's, which is why it was discontinued. It's time to let it go.
I know I am weird and is proud to admit that.
The main reason I did not buy the mini is because it did not have what I want.
I am willing to pay for the price if it had the features. (Look no further for proof of that as I am also a proud owner of Sony Xperia phones all over the years when no one else buy them here.)
I wanted a flagship with the top features in a smaller size not a less model. Had they release the pro mini, it would be instant buy for me.
It is never time to "let it go". Otherwise, better products will not be coming out.

I purchased my 2nd-gen SE in mid-2020 and it still works just fine, at least until Apple finds a way to break it via software upgrades. I want a small-form-factor phone that does a limited number of things and is as inexpensive as I can find. Unfortunately, I pretty much need my phone to be an Apple product, so they have me by the male-parts and they know it. I suspect my current iPhone SE will be the last phone I have that's the size I want.

If they are manufacturing them in October, why wait until March?
I know of people who want a new SE but their heads will be turned by something else if they are expected to wait that long.
Because they don't want to cannibalise sales of the flagship phones. They know these will sell well but they need people to buy the expensive phones first or their figures will be show the lack of interest in flagship phones.

Yes, it is time to let it go… at least here on Mac Rumors. That’s because no one here works for Apple and complaining here won’t accomplish anything - other than to annoy other members. Complain to Apple. Don’t hijack threads.
I have done my part in complaining to Apple.
Annoy other members? Perhaps should not have started the topic in the first place to start with. (First post in this thread to mention mini: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/when-to-expect-the-iphone-se-4-to-launch.2434435/post-33341389)

No 120Hz display, no thanks.
I think I have fairly observant vision (I do a lot of photography and the Soap Opera Effect on cheap TVs drives me absolutely insane) but I can't see any difference between a 60Hz or 120Hz display. Perhaps I could discern a difference side by side but it's not a feature I care about at all.

My professional camera has an optional high refresh rate toggle for its electronic viewfinder, and I *can* notice a *slight* difference if I turn it on *IF* I'm photographing very high speed objects (sports, birds in flight, etc.) but it's very subtle. I don't see how this is a big deal for people, and considering the hit to battery life, I would prefer a 60Hz screen. Maybe if you are doing hardcore gaming or something on your phone it makes a difference?

How is this an issue for web browsing, texting, or reading?

It *IS* the type of thing I see Android fanboys always measurbating about, along with things like how fast their phone charges (again, I prefer the slower charge which preserves battery life, and I only charge my phone overnight anyway).
