My point was that untill Apple makes a removable battery it is not going to be taken seriously as a business option

Why should that matter? They're making a ton of money selling directly to consumers. Businesses often buy the cheapest option, so it's not nearly as profitable a market.

Why should Apple chase markets that aren't as valuable as what they have now?

Note that they ARE selling to business people directly. A lot of iPhones get used in Exchange environments. So if Apple doesn't sell directly to the big company, who cares? Their employees are buying them on their own. That's a sale.

it is freaking amazing to me that they haven't because it would MAKE them money if they DID!

3rd parties would sell doors and batteries cheaper than Apple could. They'll outsell Apple 10-1. So why should Apple go to all this trouble just so those companies can get rich?

Why do you feel a removable battery is so crucial to businesses? Are MBAs really carrying a handful of extras with them everywhere they go, as opposed to a charging cable for the desk/plane/office?

Do you feel this is what Blackberries are popular?

No Blackberry is popular because you can charge it and run it HARD for 2 days and never have to charge it. the iPhone you barely get thru HALF a day. Blackberry is popular because it is so much easier to set it up to work with enterprise units vrs having to wait till apple added it.

I carry both. iPhone for fun and Blackberry for work. I carry and extra Battery for my Blackberry and YES I have needed it. I also know I would use my iPhone more if I could rely on the battery instead of worrying about keeping enough battery life to catch a text or call from my family.

Your argument is not valid because look at the cases being sold. Apple makes OFFICIAL Cases... but so many other companies are making fortunes selling cases.....

Are you serious!? Posting an article BY APPLE.....

Tell me the percentage of companies that use the iPhone vrs Blackberry? Show me a Reputable Source that shows more companies use the iPhone and I will apologize... oh yea thats right you cant!

And why the hostility towards me? maybe because you know i'm right and you cant argue the facts so you would rather bash me!

I work in the medical field. Paramedic for 7 years and now doing cardiology at Loma Linda University Medical Center which consistently rates in the top 5 hospitals in the nation. Every doctor I work with uses an iPhone. Now I work in surgery so I can only speak for that, but I also know a couple of ER Docs and they use iPhones as well.

All that said, I don't really see the need for a removeable battery ( which is what they real topic is here, cause we all know the iPhone battery is easily replaceable ), because who really doesn't have the ability to charge while you're out or working if needed? But if you really feel the need to replace your battery throughout the day, carry a small Phillips screwdriver with you everywhere you go and open it up and replace it when needed. Yah, you may need a soldering iron as well, but I'm sure you have the pocket space where you usually carry all your extra batteries.

Or you could just get another phone and be happy.

For all the people that are worried that their battery could run out any minute leaving them phoneless in the middle of the biggest business deal of their life... Why not just get one of the variety of third-party external batteries?

Sure, I guess so man.

Um, so ... what's your point again? Big Business loves BlackBerry?

Cool .....

glad you have a job where you can plug in all the time. Ever travel? Ever have a 4 hour flight in the back of a C-130? oh wait there are no inflight movies nor free drinks served... there are those of us who do work out where we can't plug in. oh and I work for the Top Rated Government in the world!

My point is that a removable battery would make the iphone 100% better.... but sop glad everyone can jump on me instead of actually opening their eyes and seeing both sides! good to see!

*HA!* Well, excuse us Mr. Business.

How do you handle laptops with 4 hour battery life then, on these Air Buses? You carry spare batteries for that too? (I'd hate to see your battery packed bag;))

Come to think of it, you've already admitted to having 2 phones on you at all times ... I wonder what your BELT looks like

Look man ... someone asked "will apple ever make a replaceable bettery on the iPhone?" and the answer is a solid "No." -- why can't you accept that?

It's not up to us ... take it up with Jobsy.

WTF are you even trying to argue? you don't like the iphone, we get it, but millions and millions of people do like the hottest selling smartphone out there right now.

That's just completely untrue. My wife has to charge her Blackberry Curve every day.

The only reason an iPhone uses its battery faster than a Blackberry is because you use it to do more. Of course, checking email and making phone calls is less battery intensive then surfing the internet on WiFi and playing 3D games while listening to music.

Top Rated Government in the World?? Haha, by whom? Themselves? Haha. To answer your question, yes, I have had the travel for my work... In fact I did even travel in the back of a C-130 for 8 hours actually into Afghanistan and unless you have some magical "In the Air reception" I don't know how you could run out of battery in 4 hours. I played Doodle Jump and Pocket God, listened to music and watched two movies on my iPhone throughout that flight and my battery was fine.

We handle Laptop Charges easily. Mine lasts about 8 hours. And yes I carry a spare battery.

The OP asked about it adn everyone is giving their opinion. I gave mine and no one liked it... maybe its just me. I am voicing my opinion

A removeable battery would be make the iPhone heavier and at least 1/8" thicker than it currently is. That's not the direction Apple wants to be moving in.

Exactly! I get a full day of standby and 5-6 hours of use. That's better by far than any 3G cell phone I have ever used. If it runs out before the end of the day, it's only because I use it 10 times as much as my previous phone.

Your wife needs a new Blackberry battery.. lucky for her she doesnt have to have to pay $80 for it AND have some apple genius install it for her... she can do it herself

GeneralP, do you really expect us to think that Apple should design its iPhone for use by the US military? Maybe you think it should be EM-hardened, encrypt all phone calls, and be waterproof, too? This is a consumer electronics device. Nintendo doesn't design the Gameboy to military specs either.

I don't wonder, now, why you were banned by the Mods. Hopefully they will be back soon.

I never asked for the iphone to be made to military specs... I asked for a SERVICABLE BATTERY!

And bring on the MODS.. I have done nothing wrong but be attacked here for voicing an opinion

Here's the bottom line:

  • Apple marches to their own drummer (cheesy, yet true)
  • The iPhone does not have a removable battery (or a keyboard, for that matter)
  • Neither of those are going to change any time soon
  • OPs question has been answered
  • RE: business - well, Apple may have burned that bridge or perhaps they have a plan of attack that's more than just "sell spare batteries and battery covers"
  • Business iPhone usage is big enough topic for its own thread

There. Sheesh.

Then if its answered the mods should just shut down this thread

Nah ... it can run its own course.

Who knows ... maybe we should leave it open so that if someone inexplicably can't understand that the iPhone doesn't have a removable battery, we can point them here. ;)

There is nothing wrong with her battery. It's a couple months old, so no charge to replace anyway if there way a problem.

The Blackberry Curve is rated for 4 hours of talk time. The Blackberry Bold is rated for 4.5 hours of talk time. The iPhone 3GS is rated for 5 hours on 3G or 12 hours on 2G.

I meant that if she had a bad battery she could walk in get a replacment and be out the door.... if she had a bad battery on an iPhone it would require a soldering iron

As far as talk time thats something totally different.... and there are plenty of threads here that talk about how you have to turn everything off to get those 5 hours
