You know you would think that the exec's at Apple would pull their heads out of their ass's and add a removable battery.
1. They could sell spare batteries! $$$
2. They could sell spare battery chargers! $$$
3. They could sell spare battery doors! $$$
4. They could resolve a lot of bitching about "My Sim Door isn't Flush!" and hide the sim under the battery like 99% of other phones out there. (saves them $$$)
5. More people would take the iPhone seriously and less like the toy phone it is. (Selling more makes them $$$)
6. No one can honestly argue that adding a removable battery would add to the cost either. The Profit margin is already so high on the iPhone its not funny.
7. There is a HUGE difference between having a removable battery on your iPod vrs your iPhone. if your iPod dies... oh F.ing well... if your Phone dies, thats a different story. A businessman could loose a deal, a person may not be able to dial 911, If Apple wants to be taken seriously as a business Phone Provider they will eventually come around. Untill then you will never see major business's including the government using the iPhone.
rebuttal
1. Apple already sales 'spare batteries', unfortunately you need tools to install them or you have to send the phone to Apple to have it installed, not always an option at the local coffee shoppe or @ 30k foot.
2. Apple already sales 'spare battery chargers' they are called Mac Books, iMacs, mac minis' or the '$50 dock that you can order from the

store
3. Don't know what to say about the battery door, haven't lost one on a phone, RC device or remote in 30 years

4. Might need to talk to Palm about hiding the sim card under the battery while your at it. I've not had an issue with the sim card tray not fitting flush. If I did have an issue i'd take the 30 seconds out of my life and file it down with an emery board. But it would have to be really bad to go to that length.
5. That is your opinion, I'd say most if not all people take the iPhone serious. I don't know of to many 'toy' phones that cost $300-$500 w/contract.
6. Its easy to argue higher cost,
- redesign of the back case
- addition of user serviceable battery connectors
- Step 1 leads to possible redesign of docking stations, cases, etc al as the new iPhone is now 2mm thicker(example)
- IF they follow your suggestion of moving the sim under the battery, that results in a whole new PCB layout and a substantially thicker phone.
- The perception of 'profit' is based on what? The reports the parts only cost $150 off the shelf? What about the labour, and machinery needed to assembly those parts? Oh and don't forget the years~ developing the OS and phone it self.
7. Major corps use them. Some corps are piloting them to replace BB's with much success. They are used in the gov't world, just not as widely spread due to

having a death grip on the apps end of the deal. Which is going to be the iPhone/iTouchs downfall in the Corp/Gov't word. We/They need to be able to write and distribute an app in a matters days/weeks, not do that then wait months for approval and not to everyone in the world.
