It will never stop. In 10 years 2k euros will be the new normal, I’m afraid. The main reason will be inflation and god knows what the next economic crisis would be.
Just look at your electricity bill, for me it’s 3 times more expensive than 2 years ago.

I buy all my phones outright unlocked. $1250 CAD ($910 USD) is my limit (iPhone 14 Plus). Would rather put the extra money into a nice laptop so I got the 14" M1 Pro.

Worst case for me is that I’ll pay the going rate but less often. Right now I upgrade every year and hope to continue with that frequency.
