Background audio only. Developers have to implement PIP and split screen APIs separately. How does it work then? It is supposed to enable background video playing is it not?

Stupid Google. Looks like they won't do it until Android gains the same features. So we'll be waiting a whileBackground audio only. Developers have to implement PIP and split screen APIs separately.
YouTube Red is just outstanding! My experience has been flawless.
The new updated Google Play Music Unlimited is also fun, has a great UI and a terrific library of music.
I'm so happy that Google provides these for us. It's a shame Apple struggles to "get it".
Interesting timing with a lot of people's Apple Music memberships renewing on October 30.Here's clarification for those interested. As a beta tester I've used the complete set of services for over 60 days and it's the best experience of all.
Compared to the others, especially the disappointing experience I had with Apple Music, this new group of services from Google is great, and Google is adding more in the months to come.
"On October 28, we’re giving fans exactly what they want. Introducing YouTube Red -- a new membership designed to provide you with the ultimate YouTube experience.
YouTube Red lets you enjoy videos across all of YouTube without ads, while also letting you save videos to watch offline on your phone or tablet and play videos in the background, all for $9.99 a month. Your membership extends across devices and anywhere you sign into YouTube, including our recently launched Gaming app and a brand new YouTube Music app we’re announcing today that will be available soon.
YouTube Music is designed to make discovering, watching and listening to music easier than ever. Any song or artist you choose on YouTube Music will start you on a personal journey through one of the richest music catalogs; just sign in, tap a track you love, and see where your music takes you. And as a special bonus - YouTube Red works with Google Play Music, so subscribe to one and automatically get access to the other.
And starting early next year, YouTube Red will get even better with member-only access to new, original shows and movies from some of YouTube’s biggest creators. You can read all about Originals coming to YouTube Red here.
We’re working to bring YouTube Red and our YouTube Music, Gaming and Kids apps to more countries soon. And don’t worry! The free, ad-supported version of YouTube we all know and love isn’t going anywhere. You’ll still be able to enjoy YouTube, along with the YouTube Kids, Gaming and Music apps free of charge. But with YouTube Red, you’ll be able to support the people who make your favorite videos while watching what you want, when you want, on any device you want, uninterrupted.
Viewers in the U.S. can try YouTube Red for free with a one month trial on October 28 and YouTube Music will be coming soon."

Didn't notice that, though I don't think its intentional. Apple Music doesn't have a lot of people.Interesting timing with a lot of people's Apple Music memberships renewing on October 30.
That they cannot get iCloud to function like other solid reliable cloud services, and now Music being simply bad, it surely makes one wonder.Didn't notice that, though I don't think its intentional. Apple Music doesn't have a lot of people.

On one hand it never ceases to cause me to wonder WTH is Apple Thinking?
Conversely it's completely predictable.
After this announcement, I jumped. My wife never uses Apple Music but she LOVES Youtube so Youtube Red would be great for her. Here's clarification for those interested. As a beta tester I've used the complete set of services for over 60 days and it's the best experience of all.

No. Adblocking hurts content creators. It's the only reason we get free content like articles and videosDon't jump. Install AdBlock and save yourself 9$

And what would you suggest? I would love for ads to be gone, but removing people's way of making a living doesn't help unless something better is in place. As of now, there's no way to make passive income from sites and content.Ads are a thing of the past. They need to innovate to find new ways to operate.
Only people who are against AdBlock are lazy bloggers.
The multitasking features such as picture in picture mode and split screen view.

I don't think you read what I quoted. The person I quoted was completely against ads, and I wasn't asking suggestions for promoting ads.there definitely is. either put code which detects adblock and doesn't show anything unless its disabled, like news websites are starting to do. Or, have a subscription based model

Not sure, but as far as I can tell, 360 youtube videos are ad free. So, does the paid subscription allows us to view YouTube 360 videos with SBS for google cardboard and such?
I meant besides ads. Should have been more clearand i don't think you read what i wrote. i wasn't giving you any suggestion, just telling you that your claim that there's "no passive way" is wrong.
I guess I can see your point. By blocking add, you force advertisers to come up with something different. From one perspective sure, I support content creators. But the way it's being justified:
'OMG, you're gonna take away my ads? How am I suppose to live???'
VHS repairmen lost their job, they found other ways to make money.
Next thing you know, Instagram is going to have a subscription model, then Twitter.
Are you ready to pay for Breaking News tweets from CNN?
Internet ads, like it or not, are becoming a thing of the past.
How does it work then? It is supposed to enable background video playing is it not?
