I really, really, REALLY hope that developers just start porting Mac apps to the iPad Pro M1 en masse.

Games especially, because this is a compelling little console. I honestly don't even care if they port them over without bothering to implement touch controls and intend for you to use it with a mouse and keyboard or a controller. I mean; why not? There's no shortage of touch based games; so at least having the OPTION of playing desktop games on my iPad (and of course, desktop software) would be stellar.
Check out Stadia, GeForceNow, and the XBox app, which will let you play with a game controller tons of desktop or console games on your iPad screen.

Yeah, exactly. Now i wanna see the gap

It was an observation that Art/Tech reviewer Brad Colbow made, because in regular Art tablets ( even the Surface units ) one disorienting thing about drawing on a tablet is the distance of the glass to the display. So it will feel like you aren't drawing on the actual surface, so there is a further disconnect visually.

I thought the Pros all used laminated displays and so had no gap (or at least no gap any artists cared about). I thought that was the main benefit to laminated displays (no gap)?

As he pointed out though, it was something he specifically looks for, from all of his years using art tablet devices. It's something that turned me off of several tablets, that iPad got so right. If it's going to be a deal breaker for you, then keep in mind it's something you are specifically looking for. Otherwise as he and other reviewers stated, for things like media consumption, the scream is top notch to them.

Ok, that information is new. I've watched his video and he did bring it up. Luckily, he said that the issue is super minor so I will have to see it in person.
I got scared there for a second that we got back to the old times when there was a huge gap which made drawing less accurate.

As I said, that was one of the things iPad got right from it's earliest days, which is what attracted me to them from Surface Pros & ( at the time ) expensive art tablets. I can't imagine it's going to be an issue now.

Lets hope, I'm upgrading from Air 2 so I hope there are no issues as I can't hold another year :)

I imagine if you are going from an Air 2, to any Pro of the past, if things were enough of a "dealbreaker" to prevent keeping it. You might be thinking you don't actually need a new iPad or a Pro. I can't imagine without having seen it, but loving my 2018, you won't appreciate the new iPad.

I watched that Colbow review and am curious to see a 2020 / 2021 side-by-side to see what that gap looks like. M1 still looks fire for speed, though! I've always liked how "flat" the laminated screens on the Pros look, esp when drawing in Procreate.

The dealbreaker in the past was the 'bending' 'issue'. I just didn't feel comfortable.
Now that its thicker I know its improved. I'm sure it will be ok but leaving my final judgement till i see it in person.
Yeah, I don't 'need' it. No one really does as iPad does less than a computer so drawing, editing etc. can all be done on a computer and often much better. But I just enjoy doing things on the sofa etc.
When I travel I don't take computer anymore but I only take the iPad.
Its more of a convenience and new exploration for new workflows than actual urging need. Anyway, I got my engraved Apple Pencil and hope things will be fine. Otherwise I might go for the Air 4 (although I m gravitating towards the bigger screen) :)

On the part of what an iPad does, I'll have to disagree.

If you watch the reviews of Brad Colbow, he says it'a favorite tablet of his, while showing his work. Christopher Lawley has been working almost exclusively with an iPP for the last 5 years, only using desktops for server purposes.

For some the iPad doesn't accomplish what they want, but what they want may not be what the iPad is truly intended for. For others of us, the iPad gets the job done for writing scripts, drawing, editing video, and more.

I agree with you. What I meant was that iPad is still quite specific and most of us are better off with a computer.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad but I think the software is still a long way off and Apple isn't going fast enough.
We will get there eventually. :)
But yeah, for drawing or photo editing this things is cool now.

I'm not trying to argue. I'm just pointing out something that often gets me in discussions about the iPP for some. The iPP is unique in it's flexibility that it can appeal to so many. It's greatest gift though, it is an alternative. While you may think most maybe better with a computer, that's perhaps the thinking of now for those who haven't discovered all the iPP can do.

Solely focusing on the iPP as a replacement instead of as an alternative is where I think many underestimate it as a workhorse for many.

People are producing music, editing videos, doing remote work, running businesses, all because an effort was made to see if it can work for them.

Dave2d reckons the screen alone isn’t worth the upgrade over a 2018-2020 model

Why would I trust someone that couldn’t even figure out how to open Word to edit a .docx file? Convert it to a PDF? Lol, he is either dumb or trying to fool people that doesn’t know better.

Also he isn’t a reviewer for the 2021 iPad Pro, since he didn’t actually review the unit.
Watched 10 seconds of that video, done my head in, switched it off ?

Agreed, say what you want about iJustine, shes more pleasing to look at and better to listen to (doesnt sounds like shes reading from a teleprompter like Rene, where his jokes that may work on paper just DONT translate well to the spoken word).

Gary is pretty decent.

I don’t find her pleasant to look at or listen to.

She has her moments when she gets to excited or intentionally goes overboard ruins her videos, if she calmed down during her videos instead of acting like a 5 year old who just got her first apple product, her videos would be a lot more enjoyable.

Disagree with you on the first part. ?

Forbes will be one of the reviewers. My prediction for their click bait: "Apple's new 12.9" iPad Pro is the best ever. But Apple has a huge problem on its hand"... explaining that the "big problem" is the backlog of orders.

Well put. Advice from Forbes on tech is like taking political advice from a Macrumors forum discussion.

Tbh, the iPad is based off the foundation of the iPhone. About the only thing that seperates the iPad and iPhone is multitasking.

And Apple is in a tough spot... because on one end... the iPad has to be simple enough a child or grandmother can use it. But be complex enough to do more for dedicated iPad users.

And on both ends it’s still a work in progress.
